Why do you make such heavy use of duck-punch when kick has longer range?

It has a better hitbox, Duck-punch is mid, kick is low.

I grew up with this game, It's one of my favorites. I've been meaning to speedrun Ghouls'n'Ghosts as well but it's such a pain to get a flawless run :D
