Bro this video reminds me of the fact my dad worked 12 hour night shift for 52 days straight staying in a sh'tty motel away from his family in 40° heat getting 6 hours of sleep so we could afford a house
Just so you know, the reason you stay up late is because teenagers circadian rhythms shift two hours during puberty. You're not wrong, it's how you work
I've had periods of my life where I was nocturnal for months on end and it eventually accumulated in my circadian rhythm being REVERSED so I would respond to sunlight with dreariness and darkness with energy--this is easily reversible after a few "all dayers" though as you're not biologically disposed towards being nocturnal, the effect is mostly psychological. Being nocturnal strangely never gave me any problems, I actually felt better than if I was diurnal--it brought me a great deal of peace and introspection, and I had significantly more creative and mental energy on that schedule. I felt no impact on my physical health or mood, probably just a freak for that.
I’ve currently been nocturnal for a couple of months now and I wouldn’t say the same. I feel less energetic and thoughtful and more sickly and restless. Don’t know if this is the right place to ask, would you have any tips on how to go diurnal? I don’t have access to medication and google hasn’t been helping
@@SuperDingaling6 I don't know the specifics of your situation, but for me it's a matter of forcing yourself to stay up into the day until your drowsiness becomes unbearable, and then gradually going to sleep later and later in the day. Once you start waking up at around 12am you're good--you can probably summon the energy to stay up until 6 or 7 pm at which point you're on course for a normal schedule again. A lot of people find drinking a lot of water to help them subdue drowsiness temporarily, you can try that--you should also try and find some games which don't require too much brainpower but are still somewhat stimulating to keep your brain awake. I'm not sure how sensitive you are to caffeine, but sometimes coffee can make it physiologically impossible to sleep despite how tired you may feel, so it might be of benefit to drink it even if it doesn't feel like it does anything. These are all fairly obvious tips (except the water one) but that's really my only answer: thug that shit out
this reminds me a lot about how i've struggled ("struggled") with being nocturnal essentially my entire life beyond 16 due to a few things but mostly because of dropping out of college, and because of that my one consistent reason to be awake during reasonable hours was gone, and because of *that* i've been mostly nocturnal (2PM - 2AM average waking hours, yes i know i sleep for ages) since then, and honestly i'm really struggling to tell if my body prefers being diurnal or nocturnal most of the time my whenever my sleep schedule starts slipping into the really bad "oh the rest of the family is waking up" territory i pull an all-dayer to attempt to fix it and usually stay diurnal for like maybe a week before slipping back into being nocturnal, so i'm pretty sure either my body prefers being nocturnal or there's something about me, my habits or lifestyle or whatever, that nudges me toward that kinda sleep schedule anyways, fellow night owl! thanks for teaching me about the term diurnal lmao, hopefully i figure out what the hell is going on with me one day
As a night shift worker, I do not recommend going nocturnal. Unless you have blackout curtains and AC in your room, your sleep will be so miserable. Gotta have a real love for the night to do it. I love it personally because mostly everybody is asleep and all my bosses are asleep, so I kinda just get to do whatever really. Not recommended otherwise.
@@user-ri9ci6fg6l Hotel night audit. Super easy job. Also part barista too, I work in a casino that has a coffee bar and all of us at the hotel do double duty as hotel front desk and coffee bar.
I do and DONT love it personally, the only reason I'm nocturnal is because every time I try to start sleeping at night, my sleep schedule flips itself over day by day so I start waking up at exactly 1 am again with no alarms. yippee 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I have non-24 hour sleep wake disorder and this was a really fun video to watch! Because of my disorder I go through regular periods where I am nocturnal (uncontrollably), and some of the things you experienced were very relatable. The horrible feeling you experience from doing this is exactly how it feels for me during times when I have to force myself onto a normal schedule to engage with society. Those times when you have to be awake all night and all day just to meet an obligation are the WORST. If you ever want another challenge like this, try sleeping on the average schedule of a person with non-24 (sleeping 1-2 hours later each day). From what I've heard, it is extremely intolerable for someone without the disorder.
*me about to go to bed at 10am after working third shift for 4 years* i didn't actually see the video yet but being a vampire is my favorite thing and needed to comment that lol
as someone with DSWPD (delayed sleep wake phase disorder), it SUCKS being nocturnal because everything is closed at night, but trying to force myself into a 'normal' schedule has the same effects on me as someone forcing themselves to be nocturnal. it's horrible
Currently dealing with really bad abdominal pains, which is causing me to have severe diarrhea where I am no joke shitting out blood (gonna go visit a doctor today within the next couple of hours) and honestly, this video makes me feel a little more appreciative with life compared to the past week :) The pain is still there though, fuck the pain
It's interesting to see someone who doesn't stay up past normal, stay up past normal; very good video idea you had here! I relate very much to beck, staying up every night all night. Falling asleep to the sound of birds and the sometimes the sunrise if it hasn't passed yet is very relatable as well. Keep up the amazing content!!!
I slept for 2 hours every 2 days during the school year because of lots of homework and during the summer stay up for around 72 just because I can. But let me say, being born with insomnia is a gaming tool.
