    going directly from "I am crying I am having a fucking mental breakdown" to "I wonder how many times I can write 'among us' repeatedly" is maybe the most honest and accurate depiction of having a shitty mental health day I have ever seen

      You'll also notice Mr. Beast's 50 hour solitary confinement has similar symptons in this video, when you are a trapped in a room for a long time, you will start acting like a child, and start going through many emotions and all 4 stages of grief, shock, anger, wonder, acceptance.

    Honestly this whole video put the whole 'lower your screen time' thing into perspective cause you don't really have a concept of time until it's just you v.s. time. I didn't realize until watching this that having asd, sensory issues, and light adhd and being addicted to screens n stuff makes me overstimulated and under stimulated at the same time. Addiction to screens is one of the craziest and most dystopian things ever how the heck did we get here T - T

    • @improbableopera793
      @improbableopera793 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      Simultaneous over- and under- stimulation unlocked some sort of understanding in me: thank you. It's like the surface level is satisfied but the underneath isn't. The "watch pretty lights move' part is good, but there's no actual mental stimulation. So the scrolling gets faster, so the surface level gets used to flashier and flashier lights, so if something can only be stimulating enough to the surface level if it's overstimulating to ghe deeper part and the deeper part can only be stimulated by something that's slow enough to understimulate the surface level. I'll have to do some more thinking on this later, but here, have some stream of consciousness revalatory word vomit, have a good day, internet stranger.

    I learned to replace (most) of my screen time by putting every video I'm interested in watching in the "watch later" playlist. Whenever I'm doing chores I put on my headphones and let it play until my chores are done or I'm too exhausted to continue. I think it's a good way to be productive while also feeding your brain with whatever it craves, as a form of ongoing positive reinforcement while doing unpleasant things.

    as someone with alot of dissociation and memory issues i really understand the feeling of finally feeling present, and watching your first mental catastrophe gave me one of my own. one of the reasons i am terminally online is because even around friends i've known my entire life i've never felt socially safe, the only place i've felt that way is the internet and i think i need alot of therapy to help me get over that. i just cant talk openly to people in real life, and i dont know why.

      Hi, I'm just one person amongst all humanity, I've came across 3 people just the way you've described yourself which I've helped opening in the past, so...
      I'm just dropping these questions there for you, or for you'n't :
      - Do you have a single person with which you could fathom talking openly ? Have you tried opening for real ? Several times ? With whom it would've been appropriate ?
      - Do you have traumas ? If yes, are you advancing on the path of "maturing" ? Or are they still burdens you define yourself with ?
      - Are you well surrounded ? How many people you have that you could have a bit more of a talk than phatic conversation ?
      I'm not a doctor, or psychologist, but starting to choose the people with which you want to try to reach on the path of opening is the hardest step to take, but also the first as well.
      I hope everything goes fine by you, and eventually social interraction will because less threatening to you the more you go.
      Just keep trying, again and again, great things come from other people most of the time.
      Have a nice evening.

Remove your apps from your phone and keep it in a drawer or something but never far away in case you have an emergency.

    • @handitover.
      @handitover. 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +32

      agree with the other comment, there aren't really any benefits to this exercise that the negative effects won't override tbh. Instead, I'd recommend trying a 6/12/24 hour period where you turn off all screens completely. Not allowing youtube, texting, music streaming, alarm clocks, anything. For nearly every alarm bell that may pop into your head when reading this that insists this isn't feasible, I promise there is a way around it that doesn't require a screen.
      I would even argue that TuChinz comment about "keep it in a drawer or something but never far away in case you have an emergency" is holding you back. It's okay to leave your phone at home and like... just go somewhere. Walk to the 7/11 and buy an icecream. Pre-plan with a friend and go run around an antique store for a while, and try chitchatting with the owner. Go sit at the park and people watch for an hour, etc. I don't know your age, but even if you are preteen/teenage, I say give it a shot. The world can seem inescapably dangerous through Internet, but you would be okay. And you might learn a lot about yourself!!
      Periodically taking stock of how you feel, recognizing when physical urges to check your phone take over for a moment, can all be really valuable. It's a very odd feeling going from "hm I'm bored, I guess I'll refresh Pinterest for the 11th time" to "hm I'm bored, I guess I'll... do that assignment? Practice guitar a little bit? Hard boil some eggs, I haven't tried that in a while. Or maybe just lay on the floor instead of the bed." I can't imagine how good it would feel to gain back 12 hours of my day. I know depression symptoms can make it so much harder, but I think it might help. No matter what you decide to do, I hope you feel better soon!

    This makes me remember a moment I had with someone special far away, walking up a brick path lined with coffee stores, hand in hand, listening to an accordion player. It felt truly magical. And I think because I miss them, I'm distracting myself and running away from the memories, burying them in the process. But the memories are all anyone has, that can't be tarnished. I need to stop running and having similar screen time and instead make more special moments. I want to make friends that I can hang with outside of class. I want to experience moments that are special to me. Those are things I live for. Not for screen time or vain goals.

    Some random thoughts:
    - That airplane trail at the end was cool. I never saw the two lines so distinctly nor how they're both not perfectly straight but wobbly and blown into broken wiggles.
    - Also I think it was easier for me to find humor in your words when you were crying and emotional. I guess it was unfiltered in a way that can be hard to do on purpose, and it felt more relatable.
    - Those things are unrelated, but I wonder if maybe saying more random fun thoughts without forcing myself to need to have them all be relevant to each other or something could help counter how little I otherwise express myself online.
    - I love that memes can amuse us for no apparent reason, and the written amongus spam feels like a testament to that.
    - The flipping off the ceiling is also so random, but I kinda loved it too. It's probably kinda random and irrelevant (as I suppose I can feel like my feelings are) to be upset at the ceiling, but I liked that you were honest about it. I want to be more expressive like that I think. I probably won't need to flip off the ceiling, but maybe I can find other ways to be expressive.
    - I wonder if you knew before doing this challenge that VSauce did something similar and mentioned in his video that such isolation and monotony for even just hours can be potentially damaging. Idk if it was for you, but I feel like that would discourage me from trying it.
    - Still, I do think this was interesting as an experiment. I heard the advice of purposefully boring yourself in order to find enjoyment in the things you need to do but avoid. I tried it somewhat and I ended up isolating myself with kinda just my mind for a few hours, but it seemed to not achieve much, and I was afraid to purposefully waste more hours like that, so I didn't try it again. I felt like the boredom didn't actually make me feel more appreciative or anything, so it seemed like maybe some tasks I'm just doomed to be bored with. But it was very clear how much you gained an appreciation for that time at Denny's with friends and an appreciation for everyday stuff. It makes me wonder again how I might potentially find a way to feel the same about things in my own life.
    If you had any random thoughts yourself, now I'm eager to hear them, too. I feel like we maybe really don't express ourselves enough online. Might be fun to try. In person, you laugh and you make faces and everything, but online only what we explicitly decide to share is shared. It's good for anonymity and safety, but at the same time imagine how much fun stuff about each others' personalities we miss and also deprive others of. I'm glad everyone seeing this now enjoyed my thoughts enough to make it to the end. At least, I think there probably wouldn't be any other reason for someone to read this now. I've never written random thoughts like this before... It would be cool if someone else shares some random thoughts too 👀

    4:57 , now i know im not alone. ever since I've been using my phone so much, i feel like i'm on autopilot. it feels like im not alive. Like im a robot. I have lots of existential crisis bc of that. You came out a different person. You started exploring yourself more. You found out more about yourself, the world, and life. You saw things most people don't. You're experiencing, appreciating and discovering life. You found out how much you love your friends. And shared your wonderful experience with us. I have nothign but respect and admiration for you. And hell yeah im gonna do this for sure. As hard as it is, it'll solve lots of problems i have. I feel like i don't know myself at all, like im a stranger to myself. While it's scary to start discovering myself, who knows what lies in me. But the thought of not living (living like a robot) is way scarier.
    Good luck on your journey in life, brother. Stay safe.
