Elvis DID go from bedroom to bedroom in the last few years but he also spent time out round Memphis giving away much of his fortune to those less fortunate than him. He read his mail, and did the same. He'd pay for Veteran funerals, college educations, homes, cars. If anyone was going hungry, or needed financial help and Elvis found out through in person meetings or the mail, he would help them. Elvis gave away almost every dime he had. Elvis even had the renwond St Judes Childrens Hospital built with his money (and donations). St Judes is STILL services needy children FREE OF CHARGE. MILLIONS OF YOUNG SAVED LIVES.

In 1977 according to Billboard Magazine each Elvis concert he did brought in $250,000. The records he was making still sold, just not nearly as well as those in the fifties and early sixties. Plus Elvis'manager had sold the rights to royalties to all songs prior to 1975 to RCA for 5 million dollars.

Love that shirt! I hope you'll start a movement. :-)
THAT'S ALL RIGHT MAMA was his first sold record.
Elvis had serious health problems but didn't tell them. I heard about insomnia, asthma, twisted colon...and of course his lifestyle was exhausting. We now know how addictive pain killers are.
The self called Colonel Parker did only get 50% from things Elvis didn't have to perform.
In the last years Elvis music didn't climb the charts like they used to ( I believe WAY DOWN was his last NR. one), but his concerts were sold out till the end.
Elvis always was very generous and he had hundreds of people he had to pay, he paid for Jackie Wilson's medication and hospital bills until J. W. died and E's ex wife was demanding more money.
Glad to see you back with Elvis!

Elvis' records weren't selling because around that time music changed a lot. Disco and punk were beginning to come up and all other music was considered boring and old fashioned. Elvis' fans had grown up with him and were around his age. Sure, many of them had children that were also Elvis fans, but it wasn't enough to keep him on top. He'd become a relic of the past for the general public. The fact that his looks deteriorated and he was old before his time (although he was just 42, the autopsy found that his internal organs were in such bad shape they were almost twice that old) did not help either. Plus his (prescription) drug abuse made his behavior unpredictable and due to his health problems he did not want to come down to the recording studio to record albums anymore and they had to come to Graceland to have him record songs. Due to his health problems many concerts got cancelled, too.

You have to understand that from the beginning of Elvis's rise to fame in 1956, he was in charge of the group, they grew up together and were all best friends, the guy's tried to help him but Elvis would fire you if he didn't get his medications, Elvis had bowel problems which caused his stomach to bulge, that was very painful, he had glaucoma which was painful that's why he always wore the sun glasses, he had s bad lower back because of the weight of his jumpsuit's and he was overweight, plus he couldn't sleep, that's why he was taking the heavy pain pills, the guy's had no choice, you could only tell him to get help you couldn't force him to, he needed bawel surgery but that was in the infancy stage at that time, all the guy's and doctor Nick could do was try to control his medications at this point because Elvis became addicted to the pain pills. FACT.

"Walking in Memphis" is a song written and originally recorded by American singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, for whom it remains his signature song. Peace out.

Hey CV; your right, EP in his fame and fortune had a sad life, and Parker was a detriment to EP's soul and well being. You know Elvis' mamma always had a bad feeling about Parker's presence and control over her son. I wish she had lived longer, and maybe Elvis' life would have been different. I think she would be the one to reach him with nothing attached to it, except a mother's heart.
It never sat well with me how the Mafia Boys always highlighted Elvis' womanizing and addictions, and yet never comped up (admitting) to their same involvement in it. They all did what Elvis did. And I am still of the opinion that other than Gladys, Elvis' mamma, Cousin Billy Smith, and Charlie Hodge, were the only two that genuinely cared for Elvis. The others were there for the Name and notoriety .
Isn't it amazing though how Elvis could function and perform as he did under all that hidden lifestyle, and lived as long as he did under the stress of it all. Even though young when he left this world, he packed a lot of life into those years. There is always a price to pay for fame and fortune.
    Stay well and safe CV.😊

The record sells was low, because there was bands like Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Rush, Boston, Aerosmith, etc. The rock music genre was changing.

THESE GUYS REFUSED TO HELP ELVIS. Then when he died THEY ALL WROTE BOOKS and got rich. The LAST PERSON to ever TRULY watch out for Elvis was his MOTHER GLADYS. When SHE DIED, Elvis was ALONE IN THE WORLD. His father and Elvis loved each other very much, but Vernon didnt know half of what was going on, and what he did know, didnt feel the need to put his foot down. Fault lies with PARKER and DR NICK.

There are only a few of these characters that I believe much of what they had to say about Elvis. I agree Parker seen Elvis as his money machine, but I see that in some of these men too.

The Memphis Mafia aren't actually the Mafia. They were Elvis' friends, mostly from childhood, who worked for him, and a reporter called them The Memphis Mafia, and the name sort of stuck, but they all just referred to each other as "The Guys".

Love your shirt...I Know everyone is responsible for their health & well being. But in my opinion two people in Elvis life wasn't always looking in his best interest, the two P's and that being Parker & Priscilla...

Elvis lost much of his following in the late 60s because of the MORONIC MOVIES that Parker forced him into. Elvis was the highest paid actor in Hollywood in the 60s. People were tired of the Elvis movies and Elvis wanted to recover his status with a WORLD TOUR. That would never happen, because Parker couldn't leave the country because he killed a person back in his home country and HE WAS WANTED FOR MURDER. He was afraid of getting arrested at an airport on a flight BACK TO THE US. Elvis had NO IDEA of any of this, but sadly Elvis never had the time to FIRE Parker FOR GOOD. That I believe was coming in 1978-79. He never made it.
His personal doctor DR NICK supplied DRUGS INSTEAD OF ETHICAL MEDICAL ADVICE which literally KILLED ELVIS. Elvis' fans had come back full steam before his death... but it was too late, Presley died in '77, just when he was about to break out again.
WHAT DID ELVIS NEED TO LIVE? ELVIS NEEDED REST. He needed to DETOX - and most of all he needed PROPER MEDICAL CARE BY SPECIALISTS, not a clown physician paid for BY PARKER to fill him full of drugs to MASK THE PAIN he was in from his inflammatory illnesses (and a dozen other illnesses and diseases that he wasn't getting proper medical care for from board certified specialists.)
Yet Elvis went on to become the best selling musician IN HUMAN RECORDED HISTORY. RCA Victor (who minted the LPs in huge warehouses that just minted Elvis records) verified 1.6 BILLION in sales as of 1987. Noone has the proper count now, but in 2024 NOONE ELSE has 1.7 BILLION albums sold. None the less Elvis' true number now, which by most historians number between 2 to 3 BILLION albums sold worldwide. For comparison, Michael Jackson is still working on ONE BILLION. And he's in 2nd place.

I think Elvis thought he needed Parker, but it was the other way around. Parker intimidated, used and took advantage of him for his own personal gains. I don’t believe Elvis loved taking drugs. I believe he was addicted and no one there had the guts or want to to do anything about it. He was their meal ticket!

there's quite a few things off in this documentary . for one , col parker did not get 50% of Elvis income, not on live performances anyway. he got 25% of that. also the notion that Elvis didnt have much of a following anymore is laughable. he was on a continuous tour in the 70s and sold out everywhere.

Some of the things they said were true but if you want the real story listen to JD Summer who was the deep base voice singer and knew the real Elvis since he was 19 years old. They used him and took advantage of him. He bought one if them a house another one a car and they were just his body guard and hairdresser. Elcis was so secluded and and couldnt go anywhere and was craving for friends and needed to be loved. A real true friend would of never have done an interview unless he could be there to defenfed what they were saying. I hope my friends dont give my secrets away true or false. JD Summer even said ib his interview without naming names that the stories that certain people were telling the world were not true. Their cash must of dried up and their free ride was over
