I Tried All the New Combat Changes in Dawntrail, but...

- Here's that job testing segment that was omitted from my previous Dawntrail Media Tour video. In this upload I check out all of the new job action updates coming to Final Fantasy XIV in the next expansion. I also check out the new jobs, Viper and Pictomancer. Personally, I'm sticking with Scholar like always. Even if I wish Seraphism didn't force me to wear a tablecloth every 3 minutes.

This is the most relatable job change video.
"god lord I've aggroed EVERYTHING" is such a dancer thing honestly, escpecially when doing fates XD
At first glance, the video might not seem like much compared to other job videos, but I appreciate the trying to figure things out as that's what most people will go through later.
I respect you taking the dragoon doesn't exist meme into the media tour.
so glad he didnt skip any classes and covered everything :) good video
Most authentic job review video as I think this is most people's first introduction to Dawntrail for those who level a job to 90 and then do not touch it for the rest of the expansion until the new one :D
"Viper is like a melee version of dancer." ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: You have just sold me on a class I wasn't that interested in. (0 points, but thank you nonetheless!)
Yeah I was kinda mixed on it too, but I love Dancer so Viper having similar mechanics has really gotten my attention!
@@Tolly7249 Just decided I'll main DNC for DT, after realizing how much fun the randomness is
I main dancer and enjoy ninja too, so I was planning to play viper a bit anyway, but with that statement I now definitely have to play it. XD
With that description same here. guess I'll level Viper at some point. Was going to anyway since I leveled every class except Blue Mage.
this is honestly real. The fact so many of us dont know shit are probably gonna be in the same boat
Shieldbash is actually pretty good for deep dungeons as it provides a form of CC for when you can't use abilities as it's a weaponskill
It can also be a decent form of mitigation in dungeons. Making a bunch of enemies unable to act is a lot better for your survival (in tough situations) than your piddly PLD damage. It's a very situational ability, but I'd hate to see it go.
@@Xbob42 Later expansions have basically removed status effects. I believe there was exactly one boss in Endwalker that had an ability that you could use Interject on, for example. I get that there's an active attempt to make every job viable, to avoid the issues FFXI has with enforced class selection, but that also makes everything feel quite samey. I'm still salty about the removal of elements mattering.
@lilwyvern4 I was more talking about trash packs. Maybe you do a wall to wall and realize you bit off more than you or maybe your healer can chew (or DPS if you get one of THOSE groups) so you need to buy time; most non boss enemies are fully stunnable, and with shield bash easily spammed, it can create a sort of mit where you're trading tank DPS for time.
But in general I'd agree, would love to see more status stuff return. Except elements. Those are dumb and boring and I've never played a single game where it added anything other than a layer of tedium.
@@lilwyvern4 The stuns and silences are still quite prevalent in deep dungeons (eureka orthos too) and stuff like Criterion dungeon packs. It seems to mainly be regular dungeons themselves where that stuff doesnt occur often
@@Xbob42 Elements are an easy way to add depth to a combat system beyond Do Damage/Mitgate damage. I'd have to disagree with you there. Look at Atlus games or Star Rail/Genshin.
this is actually good to see somebody trying to figure it out the way we would
"Also, at 96, we get basically a Medica II."
Aspected Helios: "Am I a joke to you?!"
Cider Spider: just read your tooltips, idiots!
The tooltips in question: 22:20
that's modern yugioh card
I’m just gonna wait for someone else to figure out the optimal rotation before even attempting pictomancer lol
I love that PLD is just more swords, it didn't really need anything different. I'm also excited about the additions for MCH. Viper is so flashy, I can't wait to try it.
"Good lord I've aggroed everything" Dancer mains: c.c yeaa...
A cider vid 2 days in a row? We eatin good 👍
As a lifetime dragoon main, the disrespect.... I will continue to bear it, because angry baby is funny...
As a 9 year DRG main also... Felt :')
I had hoped they'd use their break from "one Summoner rework per patch" to finally add some Egi-Glam, but they'd have announced that by now.

thank you cider
/rip DRG as per usual 🤣🤣
Thanks for the video. Its a wonderful pairing to the last one. Shame lancer didnt get new moves.
"No more Astrodyne, thank goodness"
Me, an astro main, mourning all of the perfect Astrodynes that will never be: ;_;
Excellent vid.
This was my first time seeing the WHM changes as a WHM player. Caress giving a heal up front, then a shield, and then a regen only after the shield effect ends is wild. The regen after the shield ends is a good touch.
WHM really does seem like the raw healing output class, which is what I like for new content.
i'm so excited for solar bahamut and their hydaelyn swords, it's so stupid and i need it right now.
So happy the AST's card now have different identities again. Yes we lost random, but I love having choice and variety in my buffs/effects!
Honestly you can sum up all the job updates with "Your DPS CD button turns into blast a fool once when pressed"
its kinda funny seeing the massive hitboxes for such a small lalafell lol
dude, seeing the lala then HEARING YOU SPEAK i was not ready for that - but great content all the same
Mad because Tural.
Which job has the coolest effects?
Between the two new jobs, VPR's Reawaken looked really cool, as well as the ranged combo, but the filler gcds all felt kinda meh?
Mechanically, PCT looks way more fun, I'll just have to get used to the cartoony visuals.
For the existing jobs' visuals, WAR and DNC were winners to me, and I really hope they're sufficiently complex to keep me happy.
I'm much less happy for SCH on visuals, no matter how good and exciting Seraphism is; SGE is a clear winner among healers, especially its dps.
Dancer got an orbital lazer, the choice is obvious!
Gunbreaker!
Red Mage LB3. The best Limit Breaks not only kill the enemy but also blind every player in the group.
i feel like machinist got the best new animations ngl
Astrodyne provided guaranteed MP regen just like lucid dreaming, a mini presence of mind effect and a 5% damage buff to yourself that was 1% less than your 120s CD raid buff. It stacked with the raid buff, food and cards.
It was absolutely amazing and we get basically nothing that comes close. I do like that the cars get back their own identities, but that returns the aspect of randomness to it. With astrodyne, you could guarantee 2 out of 3 star signs and there's a 66.6667% of getting the third. Draw a card and use it on any dps. The bole, the ewer and the spire are for ranged/casters. The balance, spear, and arrow are for melee/tanks.
When you draw your 2nd card if it is the same sign as your first card you redraw then play it. You will never get the same star sign on a redraw. If the third card matches one of the first 2 signs redraw. It's a fifty fifty shot to get the 3rd sign if you didn't initially draw it.
Even so, 2 out of 3 signs isn't bad at all. You get mana regen, and 10% cast speed increase and auto attack frequency. That's a dps increase.
Shoot, even if you don't wanna remember which card best suits which half the dps, anybody would be glad to have any buff at all. You don't redraw to get the right cards to get the 6% buff on the dps, you redraw just for matching the astro signs.
The cards weren't yard.
cant wait for summoner and scholar
other influencer: SMN IS DEAD
Chader Spider: It looks fun!
I am very very very excited for the new Sage abilities, the quality of like that'll be not having to individually dot during a dungeon pull....
and then just, yeah! of course! aoe kardia!
the significant increase in aoe heals is exciting yet terrifying
Of classes I play regularly, in order:
- Bard: QoL changes plus AoE Pitch Perfect is good, I love where it's at.
- Blackmage: I know the hardcore ones are not okay, but I need to know how Despair will line up during fire phase and if Thunder can still replenish MP during ice phase, since they stole Paradox from us there.
Monk: We have a ranged button! Finally!
Whitemage: they gave it a weak En Avant from Dancer and a built-in panic button on wings. Neat?
Dark Knight: I don't know what I'm doing as is, this isn't going to change things for me.
Its specifically casting ice spells during umbral ice that restore mp. In UI3, casting 1 ice spell will recover the full 10k mp.
Nothing wrong with being a Scholar one-trick! I was a Dancer one-trick on my first character the moment I unlocked the job, it's only now on my second character that I actually branched out and learned how to tank and heal and melee. I bloody love tanking and healing too (except when I get my second really bad dungeon experience, three back-to-back roulettes with the same samurai who refused to stop running ahead and drawing aggro and ignored all requests to STOP), there's something very satisfying about the roles that was *completely* missing back when I was playing ESO and PSO2.
Did the SAM at least bring the pulls to the tank? Because if they it, they did optimal play!
@@halosaft They did not! That was why I was pissed, because they kept running off, getting themselves beaten silly, and making lots more work for the healer while I was trying to catch up and pull aggro off. He was SO ANNOYING.
Cries in main that doesn’t exist XD
I know you were busy with all the achievements streaming and awesome content but …. there is still a glimmer of hope that we’ll get to see more Mad because Small as well one day XD
seeing you try to do blm rotation is so painful and so relatable at the same time
I mained Reaper most of the way through Endwalker, with Gunbreaker in my back pocket (and before taking an extended break, I was also trying my hand at Sage). Honestly Viper looks interesting, but I'm not sold on it yet. It feels TOO flashy, if that makes sense. Pictomancer, OTOH, looks interesting to me, and might be interesting to pick up over my Red Mage (which I used mostly for running raids and stuff). But I'll be honest, one glance at that Picto tool tip made my eyes cross. O.o
I too maxed all jobs but I don't know half of them half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of them half as well as they deserve.
It looks like ninja became a lot less of mag dumping your dps in the damage window and then twiddling your thumbs for the next mag dump and more consistent damage. That is very good because Ninja was hella unfun to play in Endwalker.
"I can't tell what I was actually doing, but it seemed like it was pretty effective."
That's me when playing any DPS other than red mage, lol.
As a one trick ninja main im really excited to see hiw the new guage feels. This will be my first time on content, so i look forward to seeing the opener/filler flow evolve
Still going through msq in earlier expansions with ninja but I'll say it's nice that you basically have huton buffs base kit
I feel you, Cider. Every expansion I gotta remember how to play every other job not GNB & RPR again before not touching it again once maxed.
MCH has been my go-to secondary job since it's rework in Shadowbringers but Dawntrail may be the expansion where it actually becomes my main. It really all depends on what I think of Pictomancer after I play it as it's really the only other job that's caught my eye (aside from Viper but there will be plenty of those running around at launch) but given it's complexity and the odds that it will change slightly by the time it launches I feel like I'll need to actually play it before knowing if I'm going to like it. My plan is the spend the first day of early access leveling Pictomancer through various means that allow me to see how it plays not only at levels 80-90 but also in low level content which should have the knock on effect of also giving me Poetics that I can use to round out and fully upgrade some of my level 90 gear. Even if I don't end up taking Pictomancer through the expansion I've found that I actually like delaying starting the MSQ a little bit so that the first areas have a chance to calm down a little bit as the hardcore story people will want to immediately push through the story ASAP.
About to go balls deep on the pictomancer. No idea how it plays but thats what ill be playing.
Definitely will have to figure out where to put my buttons for VPR on controller ngl
I did a little digging to find full tooltips and so many skills are the type that transform into other skills that it's looking to be the easiest job to set up hotbars for, very controller friendly. I forget how I had it worked out but I'm probably gonna have extra space for potions and stuff, even factoring in role actions.
Maybe now that I can have feint in a more convenient spot, I'll stop forgetting to use it.
Most of viper's rotation is actually in one or two buttons that turn into your other gcds
"They wouldn't be giving us all these healing tools if we weren't going to need them."
If past expansions are to be taken into account, you'll rarely be using your full kit in most content.
I think its funny how he still adamantly denies dragoon excist.
Gods yes, I want Fray Mini for my Lala DRK too. Always thought it very strange that my Shadow was like two and a half mes tall.
As a machinist main, I'm so hyped to hear it's as good as ever. Can't wait for the expac!!
2:27 honestly that's pretty much how to play DRK so good job 😂
I can't wait for the day he discovers lancer has a secret job stone
Bard gets a new green move, new.
Oh right, songs won't need to target something to use them to activate anymore in DT. That's a habit I'll need to try and break lol.
i've been considering swaping my main because our main friend group is a warrior, white mage, bard, machinist, and the bard player doesn't even have any other jobs unlocked. since Dancer was sort of my backup job when I wasnt feeling Machinist, knowing that Viper is Dancer-esque but melee means I might see if I feel cool swapping over so we stop having two ranged physicals in the default group
honestly, i am surprised they havent upgraded shield bash yet. like upgrade it to divine shield and give it an aoe or counter for a couple seconds or something. the fact it's so memed on yet not removed is astounding.
astro is the least mobile healer, not whm. but it might be better now and using lightspeed outside of buff windows would help a lot.
Great video, Cider!
Very relatable and real. I leveled up all jobs "organically" so no skips or cheeses through Deep Dungeon/Bozja spamming; this let me learn at every level range through roulettes and have basic understanding of each one. I only consider RPR and WAR my "mains" but I dabble in a few others like GNB, MCH and BLM. The others are just "if you ask me to play, I'll be competent, but don't expect raid prowess from me anyways.
As opposed to some annoying doomers out there, I'm quite happy with most job changes this time around. Could they have done a bit more on some? Sure. Looking at you, SMN... But they overall kept the job fantasies for me and if anything they are making me want to try other jobs that I didn't really care about before. I quite like the healer additions, Dragoon is less annoying now and the new jobs have an interesting degree of simple enough baseline and neat optimizations possible that will keep me interested for a while.
Can't wait to see the mad baby shenanigans in the new world, it's so soon!!
dragoon is not a real job, it cannot hurt you
As a Black Mage main, seeing this explains so much about why people think it's hard.
I'm surprised at Monk being considered one of the hardest jobs because I feel like I've just been facerolling my way through it for years, lol. So long as I remembered to Cha Cha Slide, I was doing okay.
Well, all jobs can be facerolled. I think it's the optimal rotation of a job that people use to judge whether a job is hard or not~
The thing to remember with Viper's simplicity right now is that this is a full level 100 moveset. Much like Reaper, once you get synced down to around or below it's starting level it will probably lose all interesting and fun mechanics.
And here I thought I had a deep voice, then I click this video LOL. Well done sir.
seeing Monk's "correct" combo actions being highlighted makes me a *little* sad, but I'll get over it
Im glad they are finally starting to consolidate more buttons. The button bloat was starting to get a bit out of control for some classes.
Still a lityle disappointing they didnt cap our lvl at 99 this xpac but Im glad we seem to be getting some pretty cool end cap skills.
i think monk is the most interesting one from the old jobs but im for sure excited to play pictomancer hopefully it’s really enjoyable for a long time and not just the beginning of the expansion
As a dancer main who was interested in viper already, i am now more interested in it
It looks like my primary jobs (RDM/WHM/NIN) are either staying about the same or getting mild tuneups, so that's a plus for me.
Viper may indeed play like a melee DNC, but the dual blade looks like it pulled from the RDM white/black mana management concept so this might be an interesting shakeout.
Be nice if a completely new job didn't look so hopelessly generic though. PCT is looking better all the time by comparison.
I love your voice dude lol
Still maining my BLM. Nothing like bigger explosions! It’s crazy, because the level 90 rotation was absolutely perfect. And this level 100 is perfect with an extra dash of explosion and more mobility (the ability to move Ley lines is a huge game changer…. No longer have to worry about do I move or do I stay in my lines. Now can do both…)
WHM main here, concerned by what you were saying about duty design that we're gonna need all these new and improved heals >.> what if I have to get good. Hopefully it's more for the savages and ultimate(s)
dude did everyone and there mother get to test the new stuff I swear
I'm maining Pictomancer. I really think it is a cool-looking job, and probably the only caster I will play from now on, though I do love my Melees so I'll be messing around with Viper too. ;)
Honestly pld getting an updated version of atonement is nice. They had to buff it for it to be worth using all of in EW so the extra buff in damage for the three piece in DT and the slight shift in rotation is nice, I've already started doing it as speculated to build my muscle memory for it, and it feels really comfortable and I've seen an extra bit of damage so 5th blade off Requiescat and supplication and Sepulchre look nice
2:40 Never knew until this moment that Lala DRK gets a full sized Fray. What a scam
ending enshroud without a communio hurts my soul but I'm more interested in the "Executioner" buff I saw, is it just a redo of Soul Reaver?
I am a reaper main (1000+ hrs), and honestly I kind of wish they would just remove death's design and buff reaper damage by 10% because I forget DD WAY too often lmfao
also, Soul Sow only has a cast bar in combat
Cider mains SCH while I've barely touched it so looking to try that healer class for a change. For sure gonna give VPR a go once DT drops ⚔️
Mad because hotbars
Paint. Paint everywhere.
19:30 it's just a recolour of Ruin 4 not even a new spell effect >_> so we got a Bahamut reskin and a recolour of an existing spell... SMN got shafted badly in DT and as a current SMN main I will no longer be a SMN main once it comes out. :/
So I have to ask, where/how did the "Dragoon doesn't exist" running joke start?
the solar bahamut summon should've been alexander, change my mind
Oh no, I got moogled! I'm an idiot!
I change mains every 6 weeks or so.
But I'll be going back to roots and doing BLM first, then PCT, SGE, DRK, RDM, in that order.
While I don't hate current Summoner, probably switching it up to Black Mage in the next expansion. Try something different but still be a caster. I have never mained Black Mage, but I have mained Red Mage, and Picto sounds like the new job to kill my brain. Alternatively Astrologian since the cards have more effects but not back to the 'fish for enhanced/aoe Balance' level.
I do appreciate the casual, on-the-ground analysis of the jobs over the analysis of people who eat Ultimates for breakfast telling me everything is boring.
0:27 only if you left the visuells active
seeing as none of my mains got reworked this expac, I look froward to spending several dozen hours fiddling around with Picto on launch.
Black Mage 90 rotation: Leylines, Sharpcast, Thunder 3, Blizzard 3, Blizzard 4, Fire 3, Fire 4, Fire 4, Fire 4, Paradox, Fire 4, Fire 4, Fire 4, Swiftcast, Despair, Manafont, Despair, Blizzard 3, repeat. Weave in Sharpcast + Thunder 3 and you will always get a proc that will last longer than the debuff, pop your polyglots as desired though preferably every 2 minutes.
Easy. 😊
This is misleading for its 90 rotation because it makes it seem like you start in ice phase
Guess I'll spend another expansion ignoring Summoner if it's literally just the same endwalker easy mode with some bahamut buffs and a reskin. I miss my ex, but she's changed so much and got so lazy pressing 2 buttons only..
Melee dancer sounds like the perfect dps.
I miss whm's aoe dot, Aero III. i loved how it was applied to enemies. it was kinda dumb to remove that for a single target dot instead in my opinion.
.... Small frey? .... Wait! How does that one cutscene play out if you're a lalafell or a hrothga/ roegadyn????
Hmm. Remembered it as Fray taking of helmet, apparently not.
Fascinating, I've never seen anyone botch some of those rotations in such a manner and in such quick succession :p
actually in high stress scenarios astro ended up with less mobility
**sees thumbnail** Seeing how that's my character's name (Idkwhat Imdoing), I'm gonna fit RIGHT in. lol
I refuse to believe any one player can perfectly understand and master every job. I've also leveled all to 90, and have 1 of each role: Tank, Healer, and DPS... that I some what feel confident saying I know what I'm doing. The rest... nah man I just slap buttons and hope it works. lol
You should level up crafting/gathering classes if you have not done that yet.
Not only is it a great source of gil making which will pay for your gear but, it allows you to repair your gear beyond 100% which helps in not having to repair gear so often you just need to level your doh classes like leatherworker.
I know it may be annoying but its worth it to level them up so you can also sell neccessary crafting items to people in need who need that extra push like level 60 crafting/gathering gear
Tbh it's not too terribly difficult once you learn it. Just like everything else it's a lot of practice. I have gotten to the point where I can say with reasonable confidence that I understand all the jobs. Obviously I do mostly play my favorites (All Tanks, DRG/RPR, MCH), but every now and then I go through some trials/raids with all the other jobs to refresh my muscle memory.
Though White Mage in particular I just, can't play. I know all the facts about the job, I understand it completely. But it's just so BORING.
If there's one benefit on leveling up all to 90 is that I now know when someone is screwing up their rotation. Also I die inside when a healer doesn't use lucid dreaming when their MP is at 70%mp
I'll stick to Reaper as my main, but I always have jobs I level on the side, so Black Mage and Dark Knight will be dragged screaming onto the Trail, lol.
It's probably hard to evolve these jobs any further. Hotbar space starts becoming a bit of an issue around 70, and at some point, you're just going to run into the hard limit of average player's abilities to keep track of everything without just replacing abilities with newer versions.
Take PLD, for example. The 1-2-3 combo never changes, there are no branches. Why not condense it to one button? Hell, it does that in the infamous Out in the Cold duty. Then your AoE combo takes up another two. Holy spells, basically forced into use as combo enders, are another two. Confiteor can only be used after Requiescat, but it requires two hotbar slots. Goring Blade and Atonement take another couple. Then you have three more for oath gauge abilities (two require targeting party members), four mits, and a couple others for role abilities like Fight or Flight and Intervene. Three hotbars of abilities and I'm still pushing it without external tools such as XIVCombo. I'm genuinely wondering how much more one can add to a class.
Don't quote me on this, but I'm reasonably confident that that's already an option - Condensing multiple skills into a single hotkey.
Changing my main is unlikely, but I might play DT as Viper.
im becoming a sch main solely for seraphism, its so damn cool
