    Valuable information, as always ☺
    I had heard of Net Galley before but didnt really know anything about them. You explained them great! I've heard of indy authors paying for reviews before launch and they'd put the review on their book at publication (cant recall the review website but think it starts with an R). With that one though, it seemed like you were buying a good review; or at least that's how it came across every time I heard someone mention using them. I do like how you pointed out Net Galley's honest reviewing and the unlikelihood of a 5 star review, it makes for valuable insight into another option for self-publishers 😊

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate the detailed feedback. Kirkus Reviews is another one that is common but they are also what I would call 'critics'. They are tough cookies too, but with them you only get one review and you can choose whether to publish it or not.

    Hi Julie, I did receive a four-star review on NetGalley for my book: "The Conscience of An Agnostic." Laurence O'Bryan, at Books Go Social, put the review on Amazon for me. I'm disappointed with how few reviews I've received on NetGalley thus far, By the way, I gave your book: "Self-Publish & Succeed" a positive review on Amazon.

      THANK YOU!! I appreciate it.
      NetGalley is hit or miss - we usually get 3-5 for our clients but sometimes it's not even 3. Interesting listings at bookstores and libraries have resulted though.

    From what I've heard, most of the readers don't even post reviews of the books they read. It seems a lot more like an easy way for people to just score free books. I'm going to try it anyway.

    Never heard of NetGalley. Thanks Julie. Great info as usual. Since my book has been on Amazon for 2 years , I think I will pass on NetGalley reviews. But, next book could be a pre-launch tactic. Thanks!

      Absolutely. It's not too late for a Goodreads Giveaway though. :) We had great success with a client who had a book out in Oct 2018 ... we just ran his giveway and it was a record breaker!

    Would it be correct to consider Net Galley the Kirkus of non-fiction?

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope - they are different. Kirkus gives you one review by an assigned reviewer. The TYPE of person and the critic level of the review is similar but they only do one and you can choose to publish or not. NetGalley you don't choose to publish or not and you may get a handful or more reviews. They also do fiction I believe.

    I won't be using NetGalley. It is far too costly and expensive when there are lots of other options to get reviews for my books, going forward. Thank you for recommending them, Tracey (United Kingdom)

    • @arkikali5632

      You can find co-ops that charge a little over $50 / month and you can do single months, so it doesn't have to be expensive. 🙂

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't speak to them from a fiction point ... but we're happy with how it's gone for non-fiction. Have you done a Goodreads giveaway? That seems to be a great way to promote fiction. One of our clients books on horror (Screaming for Pleasure) had the #1 giveaway of the week when we did his whereas the more hardcore business ones do 1/2 or even less as well as that topic did. NetGalley is worth testing though.

      @@BookLaunchers Hmmm. Maybe you should lead with that. ("Stick around and learn how you can save XX% off the usual price!") Can you please do a video showing the ROI on some of these great services, including this one? Seems to me a lot more people are making money FROM authors than authors are making for themselves.

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Maizyk10 I don't know the ROI on getting reviews ... that's a tough thing to calculate. There's immense value but hard to pinpoint the precise ROI.
      Also, I appreciate your suggestion and maybe if I wanted to focus on saving money I would have lead with that but my point was to help an author decide if Net Galley for them.

    • @robert549
      @robert549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BookLaunchers @Maizy Kalhoun Maizy with due respect I'll be direct. Your subjective judging of this video, that has nothing to do with the purpose of this video, may be the reason you come across as so negative and unhappy. I bet if you quit deflecting and put in time to learning (instead of finishing before the end), you might make more money and maybe--MAYBE have a better attitude. Maybe I'm being harsh here, but I've seen many people such as yourself chime in like you have. In too many cases there is someone thinking about taking a calculated risk to get their work out there, but people like you put a wall up in front of them.
