- Absolutely heartbroken.
Following complications during foaling, champion mare Verry Elleegant has sadly passed away. The 11x Gr.1 winner (Opulence x Zed) who made her start here in New Zealand well and truly put herself on the map when she dominated in the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup of 2021, capturing hearts around the world. Rest in peace Elle.

Thank you for this tribute to such a great athlete. This is why I worry about Winx...RIP, dear girl!! This news came right at the same time as the lost of our beloved Echo Zulu...tragic day...still not over these losses....
Such a beautiful horse, no match to someone like Winx but man she won my heart early on and she never let any of us down! That’s Melbourne cup win almost got me to tears, her career looked almost done going into that, she smashed it

Rest in Peace Elle. Thanks for the awesome memories girl. Died during foaling. Thats freakin sad. Maybe having a racing career is more than enough. She had won enough money racing. Why did she have to be a broodmare too? She could have just lived out the rest of her life in the paddock. She died away from home too. Im starting to get angry at the ownership now lol. Ffs.
Why put lol after saying you’re angry? They breed after racing careers all the time where else do foals come from?
