I think best solution is to recognise present LAC as International Permanent Boundary by both India and Pakistan. I have been an ardent of Mr Hoodbhoy and have been following him since many years as one of the rarest sane voice amongst Pakistani intellegestia however Mr Hoodbhoy displayed a lot of ignorance on many topics he covered, even the young guy Nawfal seemed lot more knowledgeable about the issue. First of all let's appreciate the facts mentioned in the talk : 1. Pre 1987 there was not much anger among the kashmiri folks(wanted to specify here kashmiri only and not the dogras and laddakhi which were also the part of erstwhile state of Jammu and kashmir state and never had issues living in the very state) 2. 1987 elections were fully rigged and a big failure of Indian state and specifically of then congress government. 3. India has so far mismanaged the state and certainly there has been quite a lot of cases of violent treatment of people which could have been lot milder and empathetic. 4. Pakistan has been abundantly interfering in the internal matters of Jammu and Kashmir , politically, militrally and via terrorists.It would be childish to think as Indians that India would have never interfered in internal matters of Pakistan but in comparison to Pakistan its nothing. 5. The ONLY solution to this issue is to consider LOC as permanent international boundary because practically Pakistan can never gain the Indian administered kashmir by any means and at the same time it would be very tiresome and not at all worthy for India to gain Pak occupied Kashmir given a large hostile population. 6. Thanks but no thanks, LOC after changed into international border can never be a soft border, it has to be fenced like rest of international border with Pakistan and fully guarded as no matter how ideal this world becomes India can never ever trust Pakistan's intentions(not talking about Pakistani people but the state), both the countries can live and ARE living very calmly presently without any trade and frequent people's movement in between and such little sacrifice is nothing in front of long time peace. Now the myths: 1. "India doesn't treat kashmiri with par of rest of the indians that's why they removed 370 and 35A." NO, a big no ! these articles were in fact removed to put kashmiris in par with rest of Indians. Thanks to removal of 370 a resident of Delhi can settle in Srinagar too, the same way before a resident of Srinagar could and can settle anywhere in India, why should we have the disparity ? Thanks to the removal of 35A , a kashmiri women married to non kashmiri man can still transfer her properties to her offsprings.Thanks to removal of 35A now the Hindu migrants of POK can vote. I advice Mr Hoodbhoy to thoroughly read these articles before commenting. 2. "CAA is an anti minority law for Indians." CAA now CAB, is infact NOT at all applicable to Indian citizens forget Indian minorities. This is a law for minorities of Pak, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, so how come it is affecting Indian minorities ? This law easies again easies not guarantees citizenship criteria for religious minorities of these three countries, are muslims minorities in these countries ?? However I strongly support inclusion of Hazaras from Pakistan and Atheists(many born in muslim families) from Bangladesh in this list as both of these communities have no future in their respective countries. As an Indian I highly respect Mr Hoodbhoy for his unbiased and logical opinions but would also like to request him to do some homework before such talks as a lot of people rely on you for forming their opinions.

I had visited Kashmir in 1973 & 2016 with my family, Kashmiris friendly. Kashmiri don't want to join Pakistan or India. They wanted independent status. Indian Governor General post 1947 Rajgopal advised Shekh Abdullah before going to Pakistan to discuss for joint sovergeinity over Kashmir.

I have 2 questions. 1) UNSC doesn't mandate any independence to J&K; it only provides Plebiscite option for either India or Pakistan after some conditions are fulfilled. But Pakistan says it can give independence to J&K after they accede to Pakistan through Plebiscite. Who on earth will believe that? 2) Don't you think the best solution for Kashmir is to freeze it for 15-20 years, and move ahead with trade and all other areas of relationships? Thanks.

When I reached my office, all of my Pakistani colleagues were asking me if everything was ok, and if I had any difficulties flying back. Military strategic value. Other than that nothing. Both counties don’t really care for the people/land. Whoever controls Kashmir can have an uneven military pressure over the other. Think about it. If Kashmir was totally controlled by India, they would be minutes away from all the major towns of northern Pakistan. Islamabad, pindi, peshawar. Likewise. If Pakistan had all of Kashmir, they would be minutes away from Delhi and other major population centres of north west India. I think present situation is best. Give bother countries half leave it at that.

Removal of 370 makes it equivalent to all other states of India. Earlier 370 has given special power to j&k to have its own constitution other than Indian constitution. There was no reservation to sc and st. Women were not given inheritance of property rights. No anti-corruption unit .

Handle your army and get them to leave politics. All these problem will be resolved in due course. No mention of Kashmiri Pandits genocide is an example that the youth and intellectuals in Pak also do not know the full truth. Indian generals are not super rich like the Pak generals. They are well paid but do not get filthy rich while in service and have no intention of keeping the issue of Kashmir live. Overall there is some sensible discussion in Pak on Kashmir. Pakistan can grow much faster if they can manage to get their army generals to behave like all other armies in a democracy. Once this happens the borders will not matter.

India should treat that part just like any other part of country. The huge sums of money wasted on Kashmir should be given to hardworking people of backward areas of India, where people are closer to the country.

I have been an ardent of Mr Hoodbhoy and have been following him since many years as one of the rarest sane voice amongst Pakistani intellegestia however Mr Hoodbhoy displayed a lot of ignorance on many topics he covered, even the young guy Nawfal seemed lot more knowledgeable about the issue.
First of all let's appreciate the facts mentioned in the talk :
1. Pre 1987 there was not much anger among the kashmiri folks(wanted to specify here kashmiri only and not the dogras and laddakhi which were also the part of erstwhile state of Jammu and kashmir state and never had issues living in the very state)
2. 1987 elections were fully rigged and a big failure of Indian state and specifically of then congress government.
3. India has so far mismanaged the state and certainly there has been quite a lot of cases of violent treatment of people which could have been lot milder and empathetic.
4. Pakistan has been abundantly interfering in the internal matters of Jammu and Kashmir , politically, militrally and via terrorists.It would be childish to think as Indians that India would have never interfered in internal matters of Pakistan but in comparison to Pakistan its nothing.
5. The ONLY solution to this issue is to consider LOC as permanent international boundary because practically Pakistan can never gain the Indian administered kashmir by any means and at the same time it would be very tiresome and not at all worthy for India to gain Pak occupied Kashmir given a large hostile population.
6. Thanks but no thanks, LOC after changed into international border can never be a soft border, it has to be fenced like rest of international border with Pakistan and fully guarded as no matter how ideal this world becomes India can never ever trust Pakistan's intentions(not talking about Pakistani people but the state), both the countries can live and ARE living very calmly presently without any trade and frequent people's movement in between and such little sacrifice is nothing in front of long time peace.
Now the myths:
1. "India doesn't treat kashmiri with par of rest of the indians that's why they removed 370 and 35A."
NO, a big no ! these articles were in fact removed to put kashmiris in par with rest of Indians. Thanks to removal of 370 a resident of Delhi can settle in Srinagar too, the same way before a resident of Srinagar could and can settle anywhere in India, why should we have the disparity ? Thanks to the removal of 35A , a kashmiri women married to non kashmiri man can still transfer her properties to her offsprings.Thanks to removal of 35A now the Hindu migrants of POK can vote. I advice Mr Hoodbhoy to thoroughly read these articles before commenting.
2. "CAA is an anti minority law for Indians."
CAA now CAB, is infact NOT at all applicable to Indian citizens forget Indian minorities. This is a law for minorities of Pak, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, so how come it is affecting Indian minorities ? This law easies again easies not guarantees citizenship criteria for religious minorities of these three countries, are muslims minorities in these countries ?? However I strongly support inclusion of Hazaras from Pakistan and Atheists(many born in muslim families) from Bangladesh in this list as both of these communities have no future in their respective countries.
As an Indian I highly respect Mr Hoodbhoy for his unbiased and logical opinions but would also like to request him to do some homework before such talks as a lot of people rely on you for forming their opinions.

1) UNSC doesn't mandate any independence to J&K; it only provides Plebiscite option for either India or Pakistan after some conditions are fulfilled. But Pakistan says it can give independence to J&K after they accede to Pakistan through Plebiscite. Who on earth will believe that?
2) Don't you think the best solution for Kashmir is to freeze it for 15-20 years, and move ahead with trade and all other areas of relationships?

When I reached my office, all of my Pakistani colleagues were asking me if everything was ok, and if I had any difficulties flying back. This topic is discussed everywhere. What I need to know is why Pakistan needs Kashmir. You touched briefly on dividing something land across Chenab. What is the geographical importance of Kashmir that both countries are dying for it?
Military strategic value. Other than that nothing. Both counties don’t really care for the people/land. Whoever controls Kashmir can have an uneven military pressure over the other.
Think about it. If Kashmir was totally controlled by India, they would be minutes away from all the major towns of northern Pakistan. Islamabad, pindi, peshawar.
Likewise. If Pakistan had all of Kashmir, they would be minutes away from Delhi and other major population centres of north west India.

Handle your army and get them to leave politics. All these problem will be resolved in due course. No mention of Kashmiri Pandits genocide is an example that the youth and intellectuals in Pak also do not know the full truth.
Indian generals are not super rich like the Pak generals. They are well paid but do not get filthy rich while in service and have no intention of keeping the issue of Kashmir live.
Overall there is some sensible discussion in Pak on Kashmir. Pakistan can grow much faster if they can manage to get their army generals to behave like all other armies in a democracy. Once this happens the borders will not matter.

Generals from both sides may be exploiting this issue. I think common people from both sides should raise their voice against state sponsored human rights violations in Kashmir whether it is against pundits or Muslims.

Dear Pervez Sir, First time i heard an honest view on Kashmir. Nether Indian or Pakistani forces can solve Kashmir Problem. The onus is on Indian Politicians to win over Kashmir people. The Pakistan should allow this to happen. If Pakistan army forgets Kashmir, then its size and role is questioned. Probably this is only Army controls 25% of countries GDP thro its various business ventures ...... Till that changes .....

Your entire discussion revolves around Muslims of Kashmir. When Kashmiris had special status, they have mistreated minorities, burned down schools, cinema halls and temples, mistreated SCs and STs, did not give them rights. They have shown no reason why they deserve special status. Having bright complexion and specific religious identity shouldn't be enough. India should treat that part just like any other part of country. The huge sums of money wasted on Kashmir should be given to hardworking people of backward areas of India, where people are closer to the country.
Professor is a great scientist but he lacks proper information on CAA. He wants Kashmiri's to be treated like all other Indians but has problem with scrapping of Art 370 which makes that possible.
