When you first started it looked like a child was painting, then you started doing trims and the whole thing jumped to next level. Really fun watching the transformative process.
Love this scheme and will be painting up a bunch of phobos marines in this style as soon as some decals arrive. It will be my first foray into weathering armor like this but you’ve made it look so straightforward that I have to give it a try. Thanks!
Cracking video! This is pretty much how I paint my Raptors. Though I much prefer your use of Balor and Zamesi for a muted yellow. Plus, also applying the decals after the basecoats makes SO much sense for weathering. Always find something to take away from your vids
Excellent work. This is really inspiring. My “Honored of the Chapter” set, or whatever it is I just got, has some cool raptor decals in it. I’ve been wishing to paint some up and get them going, and I think this is just the push I needed.
Just here to say this color scheme looks incredibly bad ass on kasrkin too. And it also makes more sense than on space marines bc they're not always fighting beings that don't see color the way we do.
Wow first my favorite chapter the "Silver Templars" and now my secret love "Raptors" I love your painting stile and learned a lot out of your vids! Thank you!🙏
@@ThePaintingCoach I use a mixture of contrast and normal so would a darker green from colour forge or death guard green be better as a base? Planning on using Deathworld Forest and Krieg Khaki as layers of dry brushing
@@ThePaintingCoach what you recommend for an intermediate painter trying to get better? Green undercoat then build up with a dry brush or a different method?
Question: would The Raptor Chaptor change their armours colours to reflect the enviroment they are in? EG desert of urban???? What wuld it look like if they were in a desert plant say Armageddon??
After putting on the "Athonian Camoshade", and before applying the Acrylic paint, may you need to apply a "matt varnish" for better paint adherence? or is it ok to paint on top of the Gloss Varnish?
It's fine to paint over the gloss varnish - the athonian camoshade will provide a matt surface on most of the model anyway. The only thing you would need to be careful of, is if you paint very diluted paint over the gloss, as this would have the same effect as the wash
Hello I love your tutorial I'm going to go and make my army of Space marines like that On the other hand, I don't understand what the point of the varnish is and especially which ones to use. Sorry, my spoken English is bad
Gloss varnish makes the surface smoother so wash flows better and decals apply better. Matt varnish dulls it back down so that the surface is no longer shiny. I use VMS
right, so now I have to run down to my local 40K drugdealer and buy more paints, because this was great for me as a beginner to learn more techniques how to paint good green camo. Thanks for doing this video tutorial for us :)
@@ThePaintingCoach so deathguard green on flat surface and then the camoshade only on recess...edge higlithing same as yout video...mh...nice. tactical good choice to do this video . Raptors could be a "thing " soon in the lore :) have a nice evening
Question. I’m new to painting I was wondering after the primer and base coat is it better to gloss then paint over everything or after the base do my regular colours then gloss then streak and grime or gloss at the end ? Theirs so many different things it does get confusing lol
Never seen raptors painted with death guard green Also, the Citadel equivalent to German Grey from valejo is Corvus Black. It’s slightly darker than GG
Listen don't take this the wrong way but I love how you advice for painting faster is to not do it LOL this is how you paint faster you just avoid it altogether and spray it with a can LMFAO I mean I get it I know what you're saying but taking it at face value it just gives me a giggle

As someone who collects and paints raptors, it’s always wonderful to see them get some love. Awesome tutorial, they look epic!
Thanks!
@samwright1821 if you’re who I think you are, I’ve seen your stuff on insta and I’m using them as step to paint and build mine.
Love when these sneaky bois turn out so muted and battle-scarred, there’s so much character in this set.
Thanks for the tutorial!
Glad you liked it!

That's it then. Raptors it is!
Been trying to choose another (smaller) Marine force.
They look great.
Thanks!
Thank you for this video!! The whole thing is perfect for home brew chapter!! 🤠👍
One of the best painters is back at it again! ❤🎉🎉

Looking at painting some Raptors for Killteam, thanks for the tutorial.

Finally a use for my Athonian camo shade
The effect from that first washing was incredible 😮😮😮 great video!

Cool 😎 probably my favourite space marines chapter they look practical

Amazing paintjob and really helpful video. Im looking forward to see you painting an invictor tactical warsuit in that scheme. This would be great 😃👍

such. a. good. colour. scheme! Thankyou for this, definitely going to try some out!

Man those are some fancy looking kitchen rolls channel must be doing good LOL
Update: Citadel Corvus black is the paint you need for a very dark grey that isn’t black, if you don’t want to mix paint. :)

a video like this for Raven Guard would be awesome!
Love the Raptors I need to get some heavy armour for mine.
I just prime with chaos black and just cover it in death world forest, for the eyes I use baharothh blue and boom you have a quick raptor
Yes, yes...best Raven Guard legacy chapter ever
Thank you for this guide
Glad it helped!
What a great video ! I'm looking foward to paint my space marines like that.
I would like to know how did you make the basing ?
Thanks! Base is just astrogranite with a blue wash and light grey dry brush 👍🏻
Great tutorial man
Thanks
Always Team Sensible Marines. Beautiful work.
Thanks!
looks amazing!
Thanks!
they look great 🐦
Thanks!
Really nice !
Can you explain the goal of the gloss varnish step please? Thanks! :)
Thanks! It removes surface tension so that the wash flows into the recesses more easily, and make it easier to clean any pooling
Looking to use the Raptors theme on my Votann do you think it’s worth spraying with a green primer to save time or use black?
Yes I would - it's a lot easier to paint any black details than it is to layer on greens
@@ThePaintingCoach I use a mixture of contrast and normal so would a darker green from colour forge or death guard green be better as a base? Planning on using Deathworld Forest and Krieg Khaki as layers of dry brushing
If you are drybrushing then you could go with a dark grey base - black at a push. You could also go for a dark green colour forge spray
@@ThePaintingCoach what you recommend for an intermediate painter trying to get better? Green undercoat then build up with a dry brush or a different method?
One question, what is the first green you use to coat it? I mean, after the gray primer which green do you use? To then use the ink
Death Guard Green 👍🏻
Question: would The Raptor Chaptor change their armours colours to reflect the enviroment they are in? EG desert of urban???? What wuld it look like if they were in a desert plant say Armageddon??
No idea on what the lore says on this one I'm afraid 🤔
That said your minis - paint then however you want!
Amazing paints man. Got to ask but where am I able to get the Raptors. I've been looking for them but can't find them
These are just normal phobos marines - infiltrators - painted this way 👍🏻

It looks like an infiltrator squad.
It's a primaris infiltrator squad 👍🏻

Vallejo do a brush on one

Glad you enjoyed it! I can take no responsibility for an increase in paint sales 😉🤣
Solvaset FTW.
suberp, do you plan to do a tank with that sheme?
Not on video - but the techniques would be almost identical. I'd be a little more deliberate with the Camoshade wash and focus on recesses
@@ThePaintingCoach so deathguard green on flat surface and then the camoshade only on recess...edge higlithing same as yout video...mh...nice. tactical good choice to do this video . Raptors could be a "thing " soon in the lore :) have a nice evening

Welcome to the hobby! If you are streaking griming it, then finish everything then gloss 👍🏻 the only time to gloss before hand is to do decals
sorry mate but the Tamiyah Gloss Clear is valid on the little glass bottle too? Or it change something from the can one?
It's fine but you will need an airbrush to spray it. You can use other gloss varnish like vallejo if you wish
@@ThePaintingCoachoh damn i just bought the small bottle. 🤦🏻♂️ you cant just apply it with a brush?
I also wanted to ask you, the Gw Ardcoat is any good?
No you would need to use tamiya thinner and drying retarder otherwise you will get streaks
I have never used it but I guess it is ok, you can thin it with water
Does anyone have any recommendations on a different paint I could use in place of the German grey?
Corvus black or Eshin Grey will work fine
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you! Luckily I have that color on hand :)
Would handbrushing death guard green over a white zenithal work? I cant afford $30 a can for sprsy paint lol
Yes of course - just build up a solid coat over 2 or 3 layers
I saw this notification pop up and I had to see it
Hope you enjoyed it!
Never seen raptors painted with death guard green

Dee-cal. Never heard of a deckel. ;P

💯
Looks like something out of Halo: Combat Evolved.
what the heck-el is a deck-el? lol
👏👍😁
True raptors always wear helmets. That is reasonable.
maybe it broke or something from enemy fire
