I was at this game on my 23rd birthday and was the first rugby game I ever attended.
    What a day!

In the end the result worked out for the best. I think had the Springboks won the series there could have been much more trouble in New Zealand. One thing about the series that gives me comfort is the fact that the Springboks out scored the All Blacks overall. Over the three tests the All Backs scored 51 points and the Springboks 55. Not many teams in history out scored the All Blacks over a three match test series. This was not an ordinary tour. The Springboks slept in locker rooms at the stadiums on occasions. Still they came within a whisker of wining the series. Luckily this group got their revenge in 1986 when they thumped the Cavaliers.

Even though I'm an AB fan I would have preferred the 3rd test ended in a 22-22 draw. The disruption on the field and violence outside of the stadium was unbelievable.

Even the Springboks in Isolation between 1971-87 were still competitive at International Level and they Proved, just that 4 -5 year Period 1987-92 they had lost alot of good players and it took between 1992-95 to become Good again.

As a rugby fan from SA, I remember the apartheid era and the sporting sanctions imposed on South Africa. I still follow rugby to this day and find it hard to understand why NZ has a Maori only team "The Maori All Blacks"...we are told it's preserving our Maori culture!?....the irony of it all.

    • @biggest23

The irony is even greater than you might imagine. Before they brought in a lower limit of 1/16th Maori blood, there were guys that were 1/256th, or less than 0.5% Maori blood playing for the New Zealand Maori (That’s the correct name incidentally & "Maori All Blacks" is a very recent term made up by marketing ahh-swipes), which, when taken in to consideration with the the fact they could’ve had up to 4% Neanderthal DNA, they might’ve actually had a higher amount of an extinct European hominid’s DNA, than Maori.
Personally, I think they (Maori) should have a team made up of whoever they want and SA should’ve carried out its apartheid, uncompromisingly, at the border while bantu were flooding in from the north and made SA a nation without bantu right from the start. SA would be a healthier & higher functioning land if that had been done. cheers from NZ.

The NZ Maori team play infrequently, usually against touring sides to NZ. It's a cultural team and not a national team but I can understand some thinking it runs on racial lines. I think touring teams to SA used to play a game against a black SA team called the Coloureds in the apartheid era,

@@floydkingi4364 .....Any Kiwi that says what you said, is just old fashioned wrong. The original & official name was New Zealand Maori, for the longest time and only recently was it changed, for marketing purposes. You clearly have access to the internet, go and do an internet search on it right now and you'll find what I said is 100% right.
My New Zealand is riddled with stacks of easily debunked bullschidtt, repeated endlessly by people that never check whether what they're saying is true, because a lot of people like how the bullschidtt makes them feel.
I've spent decades working around the world and the only disappointing thing when I return home each time, is hearing the same dumb made up schidtt, coming from the same parts of NZ that get off on the bullschidtt they speak.

Errol Tobias abandoned to join this tour because "Human Rights Activists" or "Anti Apartheid Activists" in NZ targeted him; they called him "Uncle Tom". Tobias seached climate condition in NZ and practice how to play well in wet condition like in NZ by spreading water on the field. He simply wanted to play against All Blacks and win. Actually, their aspects were just disturbing rugby. A great player, Errol Tobras, was robbed his opportunity to play by activists who are "against racism policy". I cannot understand how can lead prevention of Apartheid policy and racism by doing this. Ironically, mixed race sports activity was never restricted in South Africa in the actual.

    • @Rotowhaka
      @Rotowhaka 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

Tobias would never have made the Test Team, Nas Botha was just to good, and Colin Beck, made the difference in the Maori match when he came into fly Half at half time and Tobias went to centre. The Maori Loose forwards Frank Shelford, Miah Melsom and Jim Love gave Tobias, a hard time that day, and then it took a bind NZ ref to award a missed Colin Beck drop goal.

Springboks should have put that inexperienced All Blacks team away
The All Blacks had 3 forwards on Debut, plus a new centre, it’s mid field was smaller and weaker than the springboks, as was the All Backs Full Back. The All Blacks had a few key players missing who made themselves unavailable for this series.
Not robbed by the ref, but let down the team and in particular the golden boy who missing that last conversion, then those dumb arse forwards letting a free kick get turned into a penalty

What is interesting is that the All Blacks had a more experienced team with older players. Naas was only 23 one of the youngest players on the field. You forget he scored almost as much points by himself as the All Blacks did in the whole series.
Our forwards was wrong the ref just flat out cheated. You can make up all the BS you want unfortunately there are video evidence that show the All Black nine wasn't tackled before he ran the ten meters. We won't even mention the fact that the Springboks had to sleep in the locker rooms at the stadium.

I agree completely with your 1st few points. But they weren't 'so called' activists, but genuine. Basically split NZ as a country, and even families, down the middle. Most South Africans had this strange perception that these activists from 1969/70 , 1971 and 1981 were false, but the fact is they did it for the right reasons, which was rallying against what they believed was an evil, morally corrupt SA government, which was correct.

Look at where the poor folks that suffered under apartheid are today. In the same or worse conditions than before. One step forward, two steps back.
