The black man on the dock is the Co-Captain of the Harriett River Boat, the boat that was unable to dock for 45 minutes because the owner of the small private boat refused to respond to the loud speaker requests to move his boat. So the Co-Captain was taken to the dock to take care of the situation, and the fight broke out. That man had authority to clear the area so that the river boat could dock. Self-entitled people need to stop this hatred!

The finding out phase of effing around is a real thing.
I hope bail for the ones who came to the rescue is raised. I also hope that young teen, who swam to help, remains protected and cared for.

Indeed. It's not the answer, it's the question, and the answer is always "Only if you insist."
It's never good to start fights where they can be avoided, but it's even worse to allow predation to occur where you could reduce it to a fight instead. A fight is regrettable, but far better than allowing a lynching or even just a one-sided beating.

In order to condemn it you need to public acknowledge how terrible it was. Germany did that after WW2. They recognised the horror of what happened and decided collectively that they didn't want it to happen again so it is taught in schools and they have banned the flag and are pretty strict with measures to stop that kind of hate from spreading.
It is a whole different story with the southern states. Too many people still think that they were the good guys in it all and allowing them to fly their flags and keep their statues standing means they can keep that view just bubbling underneath the surface. Of course they don't say it plainly out in public because polite society would call them out on it but the whole atmosphere in those states is saturated with that underlying current of race superiority. If anyone were to try to take down statues or remove flags they would have to admit that they were in the wrong and they simply can't do that.

As a Canadian, I appreciate your honesty, but I’m still shocked at your lock of knowledge in this subject matter as it pertains to slavery, the deep south and their participation. if this is new to you, my friend, you haven’t scratched the surface about black history in North America, including Canada. Canada was a major hub for the enslavery as well. Do you know that? They were as brutal as others were. They abolished slavery before the Americans and thats why many of the slaves escaped to Canada or Nova Scotia for example.

Black people don’t just experience racism. We feel it. It’s a sense that we’re born with. All we had to do was see the video to know exactly what happened. The white family didn’t feel like they had to take orders from a black man. Had a white man asked them to move; they would have done so immediately.

A white man ordering them around, and their compliance thereof depends on 2 things. How drunk they were, and if he was armed. White people don't like white people any more than black people. There is no sense of community beyond family and even that is highly conditional. If that same black man had been a cop they would have complied without a fuss because he could have shot them. That is the only thing that will get through to a drunk or angry man. Survival instinct.

@@pisces363agreed completely - those pontoon boat owners knew that they were in the wrong, 100% - their issue was not with the fact that they had docked their boat in a space reserved for the much larger riverboat, their issue was with the the fact that a ***black*** man came along and told them that they needed to move.
Their violent response was SOLELY due to the fact that a black man dared to speak to them with authority. They probably would react the same way to a black police officer.

They attacked his wife, his kids. They questioned his citizenship. After his terms ended; they made sure the next president was a racist. He didn’t win the popular vote, but; they made sure the electoral college worked in his favor.
My point is that white people don’t take kindly to black people being in positions of authority. They think they’re the authorities in almost every situation. That’s why we see so many Karens confronting black people for simply living their lives. White people seem to feel like it’s their duty to put black people “in their place”.

They were watching another attempted m of a black man by a gang of white folks. We must understand that in all of our celebration, there is severe trauma. That young man dove in that water to stop them from killing his elder and he will carry that truama in his body along with all the other trauma young black men experience from just existing in this country. Please let's not brush that aside. That was a life or death situation for black folks so no, after the first fight is over it wasn't over because they easily could have killed that brother. It is time to go through without discussion. No violence needed. Rewrite the books and dare the dispute. Virtual schools can be used. and let the public systems shut down without us, just like the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The city lost millions then decided to act right. I think Employment Law can be applied to this. If not, just go through to get things done. Once again, no violence needed. Brains and imagination will take you far.

You are so correct. I think the reason why so many people missed the good works of that white gentleman (including myself, initially) is because his whiteness camouflaged his good actions due to the overwhelming violence of the white attackers. Initially, all the whites were running to the Black man to beat him up. The "good white man" who was also running to the Black man was doing so to get the "bad white people" off the Black man. But all the public could see was a bunch of white men running to the Black man, not being able to discern the motives of every white person who ran towards him. The good white man's color camouflaged & his good efforts because he was overpowered, in numbers, by the white attackers. Had this "good white man" been blue, green, purple, or Black, his efforts would have stood out because he would have been more readily seen.

Many times where my river boat needs to come in and dock after a tour. I've been that guy many times that had to stare down some drunk boaters and tell them to leave the dock with there boat. Many many times. They have acted angry sure. But everyone around me starts chiming in and they eventually leave. Sometimes mad. And there could be a day where one tries to hit me. We people that work the docks absolutely despise people that ignore signs and use incorrect boating practices and especially that feel like they can just dock anywhere like they are entitled. This video is a gift. I'm sorry the violence had to happen but those people that docked there knew they were in the wrong and you can imagine everyone in that area was hoping they would try something.
