Finn should start a music festival and call it “The Barbecue” where all the bands are the ones that he’d “invite to the bbq” 😂
I was just about to post basically the same thing and I scrolled down and saw your comment on the top of the section! Great idea!🤣
That's called barbecue 😂
in the philadelphia area our bland generic rock channel has the yearly show called the mmrbq
I'd buy a ticket for that
Headlined by Sugar Ray
Finn is uninvited to the barbecue after that Radiohead take 😂
Trashing The Bends while frothing Creep is low tier haha
I actually thought it was satire for awhile
Guy who thinks that Death Cab for Cutie is peak music thinks Radiohead is trash. That's friggin hilarious. his taste stopped developing around the same time Tony Hawk's Games fell out of popularity
@@rome6718so kinda around the late 2000s? Well he would have been in his late 20s so that legit sounds about right. People’s taste stop developing for the most part around late 20s/early 30s. Whilst there are exceptions, most people just stop expanding their repertoire around that age. Roast failed
I'm not even the biggest Radiohead fan but I know that Pablo Honey over OK Computer is just absurd
I get it though. If you pretty much only listen to hard rock, then you're probably only gonna like the brief era of Radiohead where they floated around that genre. OK Computer is where their sound really started to change and become more progressive. He should listen to The Bends though, it sounds like he missed that one and it's an amazing alt rock record.
@@travistotle See my problem is, as someone who likes both genres, Pablo Honey just isn't a very good album. Even if the style is something I can typically enjoy, it seems like they have yet to catch their bearings as a band. Every song I enjoy for like the first 30 seconds and then I just skip away as I quickly lose interest. OK Computer is way more engaging and just has a certain level of depth to it that the first albums couldn't obtain. I know style will always trump substance but can you honestly say you like Pablo Honey's style? I'll give you the argument on the bends though, he at least could have respectively picked that one.
Style will always trump substance? How shallow are you?
@@polyestermammoth740 If substance trumped style we would all be listening to Franz Liszt or Yngwie Malmsteen. Instead we have Green Day selling like 100 million records worldwide. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just acknowledge them.
Third Eye Blind's first album is a diamond in the rough and no one can convince me otherwise. 😊
second album kills too. they kinda fell off for a while but SCREAMER (2019) is incredible. I'm still super obsessed with this record four years later.
“God of Wine” is their best song no one knows about
Motorcycle Driveby and the Background are two of the best songs ever written
A perfect album
Out of the Vein is actually a pretty good album as well. That one suffered from Elektra going under at the time.
Radiohead in B while Oasis in S is absolutely insane
Both S for different reasons
You have to remember that Finn's ear leans heavily to easily ingestible music...he loves to be grabbed by a pop style riff...
@@johnjohn37371 no shame in that, but damn it is still a really bad take lol
@@stewiegriffinfortnight2160 Oh, I agree completely...also think he missed the whole point of Green Jellö...they were intentionally shitty at times...Danny Carey was their early drummer for goodness sakes, they were just being obtuse, practical jokers...his takes get so inundated with his purposeful trolling, you never know if his taste in music is honestly that bad at times...
Totally agree! There isn't a tier low enough for Radiohead 😂
The Oasis logo feels like walking in to a Pac Sun.
And it’s glorious
My second cousin really liked watching your tier videos. They meant the world to him.
RIP cuz... I'm watching this, FOR YOU.
i hope this tier list brings closure over your loss. 🙏
@@subparnaturedocumentary I break down in a fit of uncontrollable sobbing every time I hear Finn say "The C tier is really the S tier" that was my cousin's favorite gag.
@@friendlypirahna i think it would be best to get his face tattooed on yourself with this quote under it to prolong their memory.
I broke down in a fit of uncontrollable sobbing after reading this. I hope that my family will honor me by watching my favorite youtube videos over and over when I'm dead.
@@friendlypirahnasorry bro, I was wasted that night and I never should have drove, that being said though your cousin never should have been car surfin on top of my Suburu as drunk he was
Silverchair is criminally underrated
Frog stomp was awesome.
One of the best Post Grunge bands along with Foo Fighters, Bush, Adam Gontier era Three Days Grace, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, Chevelle, Stone Sour, Halestorm, Alter Bridge, Flyleaf and artists like Jagged Little Pill era Alanis Morissette and Avril's first 2 albums Let Go and Under My Skin
It just sucks that Daniel Johns had to become such a douchebag. They had a lot of potential and always pushed themselves musically and creatively with each album. Criminally underrated
That Radiohead take is nuclear lol it feels more informed by the annoying fanbase rather than the actual music 😂
Wait until he gives Interpol/TOTBL an F 😂
Nah, the Radiohead take is pretty level headed. He could have easily put them in a lower tier. Most of their music is pretty mid.
their music really isn't that good
the only bands i liked on this list were weezer, rhcp, and faith no more
@@jayzonedc6474thats a hot take my man
Pablo Honey over any other Radiohead album is lunacy. It’s such a preposterous take that it has given me purpose in life and the strength to beat depression. Thanks Finn!
Never was much of a fan of beastie boys, but their talent and creativity is undeniable.
Beastie boys is my all time favorite band/group. Liked them since 86. Yes I’m that old. A mix bag for sure, none of their albums are bad. R.I.p. MCA
Same here "wat'cha want" was the first music video that I saw in my life I think...
Ditto. I remember getting Licensed to Ill in 6th grade and playing it nonstop for the next 3 years.
Also, I think another list in this same genre could keep going. Live, Mudhoney, Better than Ezra, Garbage, Skunk Anansie, Incubus, Melvins, Lemonheads, Flaming Lips, AIC, etc. Alternative could just keep going on these videos!
Better than Ezra are so good
Better than Ezra was one of my favorites and nice one with “live” they were everywhere for awhile. Totally needs to be included
Just discovered Skunk Anansie (other than a vague recollection of one tune on the radio)
Should oasis be s tier? Definitely maybe
Some might say they’re, standing on the shoulders of giants.
I said mayyybeeeee
My lil brother died last week and we played this video at his funeral today.
Uh Finn, if 90s Radiohead is Olive Garden....please explain to us what alt 90s band is fine dining??? Why make that comparison talking about "alternative rock" to begin with?
@@luke5100Oasis, Weezer, Janes Addiction, and No Doubt. He literally made a tier list lol
Finn SERIOUSLY sleeping on Third Eye Blind
Petition for a tier list of celebrities that Finn wants at his bbq
Good call on Oasis. Funny cause just recently I picked up their first 3 CD's at a thrift stop and have been playing em for the last week and man.... That was a damn good run of music. Their later stuff is a little meh, but their song writing in the '90s was excellent.
Agree, Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory are S tiers albums
There was a concert near my house with Noel this summer and they didn't perform because someone called in a bomb threat.
Be Here Now is pretty good too. Go Let It Out from the 5th album is brilliant too.
@@avacyn2000 I just found 'My big mouth' from be here now. I have no idea why im just now hearing it.
@@FupaLipa Nice bro. Girl in the Dirty Shirt is another tune. D'Yknow what I Mean is another.
i bet he never listened any Radiohead album. The Bends is the best alternative rock album of the 90's even Mike Portnoy says it It has everything what the 90's rock sound was about. Ok Computer on the hand is game changer masterpiece. Many 2000's were inspired by it.
Your take on Radiohead is like you never fully listened to their albums ... Everything from the Bends up to A Moon Shaped Pool is brilliant.... I'm a hard-core fan since yes Pablo Honey but I'm not a fanboy to just say they are great without real merrit .... They are always taking new sonic sounds capes and melodic grooves, with texture and electronic subtle sounds and creating an atmospheric sounds cape you can get lost in... A great pair of earphones and a couple of blunts will put you in the perfect mood to take in the music of Radiohead....
Yeah this video popped up in my recommended randomly. His Radiohead take has ensured I won’t bother with another one of his videos
Bro, Third Eye Blind had "Semi Charmed Life", "Jumper", "How's It Gonna Be", and "Never Let You Go". They had a ton of hits. Not to mention their self titled is one of the best albums of all time
The self titled album is what I play when I want to feel something. For once.
I like how the Oasis brothers constitute one Collective ass Soul
😂 Ass soul
Third Eye Blind has some bops for sure. They are more than those early-mid 90s hits, too. Knuckle Pucks cover of Losing my Whole Year is so freaking good.
The B tier is where you put the bands you respect but don't like and the C tier is where you put the bands you like but don't respect.
God that’s perfect
Finally Oasis getting some love!
Oasis 100% S-tier! For all the memeing they get, and for how toxic that family relationship is, you can't escape the sheer volume of absolute solid gold songs Noel wrote in those earlier years.
Id actually like to see you do a vid on Oasis. A lot of people dont go beyond Wonderwall but their whole history is pretty mental and like you say - theyre kinda the epitome of the classic "rock and roll star"
Rock n roll star is a great song by them too.
Oasis is absolutely s-tier, love them
yes!! the mainstream hits aren't even their best songs. supersonic, cigarettes and alcohol, some might say, live forever, what's the story morning glory,, little by little...I can go on forever. noel gallagher is by far one of the best songwriters of our generation
2nd that would love an Oasis deep dive vid by Finn so many great b-sides and some of the biggest concerts in british history.
That's kind of crazy how much praise you gave No Doubt, I decided to dig deeper into them a couple months ago and Tragic Kingdom fucking rules and is up there with some of my other favorite 90s albums like Dirt and Vulgar.
They’re honestly great!
As a top 0.0001% Oasis Listener on Spotify, I appreciate the S-tier. PROPA BRITISH INNIT
I would love to hear your opinion of Live. They were also really big in that time period.
I agree
They were definitely more weird and unhinged at times, but they really were just a spiritual version of R.E.M but with Pearl Jam intensity (The Dam At Otters Creek is quite literally if you grafted Once and Go from PJ into one jam) , with every album worse than the last
Say what you want about candlebox but they’re super nice people.
When I was like 14 I saw em live at some festival and I caught one of their guitar picks. I was just learning to play guitar then and I really liked using that pick. I dm’d them on facebook asking what kind they used and they ended up mailing me like 30 picks! I still have em. I really appreciated that and thus I’ll always be a candlebox defender
That’s perfectly fine and all, but the vocals absolutely ruin that band lol
Finn’s ska secret ska fandom popped up again, NO DOUBT
I have accidentally seen Weezer four times (gifted tickets, festival, etc.) and they were actually very good live. I agree.
I have purposefully seen Weezer live twice and yeah, they go hard.
Nobody "accidentally" sees a band four times lol You saw 'em and you liked 'em, you can admit it
Candlebox is a truly spectacular band.
They were the most underrated Seattle band of that time frame.
As for Radiohead, I hated Radiohead for years until 2022. Was soooooo ignorant of me though
The band Muse got their amazing unique sound from Radiohead.
I had no clue of their greatness.
Fake Plastic Trees is one of the greatest songs ever written & recorded.
As for the Muse thing, search "The Trickster" & go from that point.
Agree on Candlebox, they get a lot of undeserved hate.
facts
Finn, I’m no Radiohead Stan, but bro. Radiohead goes way deep compared to any of these other bands. Pablo honey is okay, the bends and ok computer are truly elite albums.
Damn Candlebox is one of my favorite bands of all time and also Everclear is amazing imo
I remember back around like 2004, trying to drive through Detroit but I-75 was shut down for like 3 years straight so it had to detour you through some serious slums & ghost towns. One of the areas, like the only building left standing that wasn’t vacant was this hole in the wall dive bar called Barbie’s Bar or something, and outside, there was a marquee sign that said Candlebox was set to play there in like 2 weeks. Their music was never really my thing but I respect the hell out of them for grinding that hard after all those years.
"Let's find a cure" final soundbite 🤞
Third Eye Blind seems like a rather pedestrian local band most of the time... but somehow managed to crank out 3 or 4 "S tier" songs (and have made a living playing those handful of tunes at outdoor concerts and festivals ever since!) Semi-Charmed, Graduate, Hows it Gonna Be, Jumper are all 90s classics
They've gotten some mileage out of Never Let You Go as well.
One day please do a 2000s Alternative tier list
Radiohead and Björk same middle of the road "experimental" shit for mainstream ppl
Can anyone who has heard the Bends or OK Computer (not just the hits) explain the hate for Radiohead? It seems like people either love them or hate them, with very little in between. Aside from them not getting an S tier this list was spot on!
To be fair, you need to have a high IQ to understand Radiohead
Yes, Weezer’s inconsistent. Actually terrific live. I saw them w Pixies 🧚 and was surprised.
Damn, Oasis were such a huge part of my teenage years. Their early stuff was just perfect garage wall of sound britrock
I remember seeing No Doubt as the opening act for 311 right around the time Tragic Kingdom was starting to take off.
The music video for Buddy Holly was packaged with Windows 95 as a way to show off the new Windows Media Player.
Do you feel old yet?
If you listen to Third Eye Blind now i think that they are very underrated. I love self titled and Blue. after that they get boring but those are very good underatted albums especially self titled.
My uncle got my brother the great milenko ICP album for Xmas 97 when he was 11. My mom wasn't too happy.
What is a Juggalo?
I listen to green jelly as a comedy album. Idk if it was ever supposed to be serious but the album with little pigs is a concept album about the cow gods taking over the world or something like that. It’s good to kill time on road trips
I’d love a part 2! And I actually agree with most of these. I love No Doubt, and Everclear has some really good songs
Everclears second album I think? Sparkle and fade was awesome. My dad got it for me on accident and the first time I heard “heroine girl” I was blown away.
@@spfadden082711sparkle and fade forever my favourite everclear album
18:24 Pod was one of Kurt Cobains favorite records and one of the main reasons he hired Steve Albini for In Utero. It’s spotless. Also, Tanya Donnelly and Britt Walford from Slint in the line up. They’re better than the pixies, on that album alone.
Again, no love for 311. Transistor, and Grassroots are some of the best albums to come out of the 90's. Plus they're still together all OG members, and that 311 logo is A Tier!
When Finn put out his SOAD video , it made me realize how rare it is to see bands stick together & stay aligned for extended periods of time. Then the very first thought in my mind was, look at 311, bucking that trend. Really hope he makes a 311 retrospective video in 2024…great band.
Which is funny because Finn loves 311
I meant to say the 311 logo is S Tier! Lol
I like Candlebox but I recognize that they were just part of the crowd. They didn't stand out. I disagree with you about Faith No More. I love that band. IMO Angel Dust was a great album. Candlebox sounded like other bands. Faith No More was unique.
Oasis are so fucking great, they may not have played punk but they are definitely in the same category with their attitude
I want to see a diagram of Finn’s hypothetical bbq. Finn’s bbq fan fic or something 🤣
Since you like Weezer and Blink so much, you should check out Joyce Manor (if you haven’t) already. Some of the best current power-pop songwriting there is like Big Lie, Heart Tattoo or Fake ID. Their catalog is amazing.
Not to call myself out here - I'm a Subaru Dad and I mostly listen to Phish and the Dead. Head to the lot before a Phish show and it's the largest conglomeration of Subaru Dads at any given place in the world.
Candlebox were the kids in the crowd at the og grunge shows who were directly inspired. They get too much hate
they were actually a band since 1990, well before grunge blew up.
@@rickyiglesias5384 the local grunge scene was a thing in the 80s before it blew up in the 90s.
right, but they can't be accused of jumping on the bandwagon of popularity, since it didn't become popular until late 91/early 92.@@SleepingDragon3
I saw RHCP twice this past year and out of every show across all genre's that I have attended, RHCP is the greatest band I have ever seen live.
My two favs to sing along to are "Slide," and "Can't Stop," but they really have got far too many hits worth listenin' to to list here, but definitely are still cranking some amazin' live shows out currently, and're always givin' it THEIR ALL, and then some, when performin', that's for sure!
hey Finn been around awhile first found out about you from your main channel 4 years ago i’ve always wanted to know what your thoughts about HUM the band behind the song Stars i feel like no one ever talks about them love your stuff!!
Im wondering how folks feel about High Vis. Oasis influenced hardcoreish stuff.
Absolutely brilliant
I loved me some everclear as a kid in the 90s.
Jane’s Addiction! Heck yeah!Loved Three Days and the second half of Ritual de lo Habitual so much. So bummed when they broke up. They almost died many times then.
The Weezer love made me feel really nice
Dude third eye blind has so many hits, maybe not a ton but way more than 1.5. …looked it up they have at least 4 very iconic songs and the first album is great
as soon as you put oasis on S tier i knew you had good taste.
I can relate to the old-thing so much 😆 The downward spiral is the new NIN, Psalm 69 is the new Ministry and Angel Dust is the new FNM, will always be!
ah yes....I remember my closely Gen X telling us we were wack for liking the "new school" Load and ReLoad Metallica albums 😂
@@juicyparsonsare they that bad? They came out in the era when gen x’ers were still not washed up
I really liked your episode of Constellation! I hope the business focused SS+ or constellation topic happens. Justice for 311 😤
Tragic kingdom reminds me somewhat of the significant other and follow the leader. A breakthrough album with very varied material
Ill Communication, Blue Album and Morning Glory are three of the greatest modern rock records of all time. From front to back. Full stop.
I was expecting Foo Fighters since they put out a trilogy of albums in the mid-late 90s… but they have a such timeless quality they can’t be confined to this ranking - plus they have at least one “very good to great” record for each decade of the new millennium they’ve been active in: In Your Honor (2000s) Wasting Light (2010s) But Here We Are (2020s)
"Instead of hating the (insert person group), let's try to find a cure!"
-Finn and other world dictator/HOA board types on solving humanities imperfections 😅
I’m never around when live, but some suggestions for next iteration: That Dog, Sublime, Savage Garden, The Tragically Hip, The Black Crowes.
I hate Black Crowes but they had success. I think Savage Garden is forgotten cause they were a pop duo with department store hits but those were well written tunes. The Tragically Hip are a fantastic group held back by borders and airplay but their peak was late 80s - early-90s and aesthetically fit into the 90s alt scene as opposed to late-era classic rock.
The Tragically Hip was always an underrated band. RIP Gord Downie
Say It Aint So is fire. One of the best of the 90s.
THIRD EYE BLIND IS S TIER AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS
I was also a teen in the 90’s and couldn’t get enough of bands like Tool, Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Pantera, Deftones, Portishead, NIN, etc. I miss those years.
You by Candelbox is still one of my favorite songs from that era.
So what was the regular or mainstream rock if this was alternative?
dad...you know how much you let me down with your hatred for Reel Big Fish, but im officially considering moving back in since you put Oasis on S tier. this is the best christmas gift ever! thank you so much! (btw, dont forget my birthday is on dec 27, and i expect an acoustic wonderwall performance from you) 😊 this is assuming you dont know any noel gallagher's high flying birds.
Third eye blind is god tier and ever clear is s tier
You let me down Finn
As one of the rare creatures who loves Korn and Radiohead. That Radiohead take is unforgettable Finn 😂. Both of these bands are pinnacles of originality and creativity. Fight me! I got hands playboy
Janes addiction getting the praise they deserve… they still sound great live too
When the media was trying desperately to hype up all that Blur vs Oasis bullshit all of us cool kids knew 2 things that were the truth:
1. It was fine to like BOTH.
2. The real best British band at the time were The Manic Street Preachers.
santa finn bringing us christmas early this year with another S tier tier list. 🎄 heres some more 90s alt type bands to use in future episode to be judged as you see fit ofcourse and we look forward to your infinite wisdom; blur, bush, stone temple pilots, 311, pavement, dinosaur jr, jawbreaker, jawbox, filter, luscious jackson. merry christmas everyone.
Weezer gets a lot of unnecessary dumping on. I think they’re just too smart and 50 years from now, people are going to talk about how great they were. I like them but don’t love them personally, I just respect their career.
I still listen to No Doubt to this day. Also I think this is a solo era track, but I really like “Running”.
Weezer is the nickelback of music
Pauls Boutique and Check Your Head are great albums
If I remember correctly, Radiohead HATES that song, and the Chugga part, was originally someone dropping the guitar on the ground.
You left out the ultimate S-tier band, Seven Mary Three
okay if we are putting Seven Mary Three in S-tier then Fuel, Days of the New, and Tantric gotta go high up there too 😆
Dave Navarro can’t be the only S-tier soul patch.
Faith no more is one of the greatest ever listen to cucu for Cocoa Puffs
did he just say Olive Garden music?!?!?! Outta pocket, Finn........
Oasis thing is you got to get deeper than their hits. "Northern Soul" is a legit great song. But at the time I was snobby and wasn't an Oasis girl.
Finn loves oasis as well because he is kinda an asshole but brilliant and entertaining as well.
10:13 I hate what Weezer has become, and their fans are annoying, but the blue album is incredible. When that dropped it was like “Pavement but good”. Pinkerton might not have aged quite as well, but their initial run w Matt Sharp had a lot of artistic integrity. That Rentals record isn’t too bad either.
Third Eye Blinds debut album in 1997 is an absolute BANGER. Insane statement to say they had one good song. Jumper, semi charmed life, hows it going to be, graduate, losing a whole year, burning man. All bangers
Finn, even the leader of Green Jelly, says his band is terrible. So you putting his band on F-tier as a badge of honor. Keep that in mind.
Last one, I drummed for a band that opened for green jelly.. it was off i5 in Oregon like 10 people showed up. Bill was super mad, made the promoter pay up front. But I got to smoke with him and he let me play one of the songs on stage. I also quit the band I was with on stage. They stole my snare . (Not green jelly) the glamorous punk life lol.
My dad was good friends with the lead singer from Candlebox in high school. He coached my basketball team when I was like 9 lol
when I tell people oasis is my favorite band (or one of) they always think I’m joking. I’m not. Then they stop laughing.
There’s no Tool without Green Jello.
