Explorer ST Flowmaster FlowFX Exhaust System Installed!!!

- Flowmaster hooked us up with the new FlowFX series cat back exhaust on our 2020 Explorer ST!! I’ll update the description as soon as the link goes active on their site.
This exhaust is a true catback design and includes flex pipes which are a common failure point on this platform. The mic on my phone doesn’t do the system justice. There is no drone from this system at all and the tone is perfect!!!

Sounds good and nice to see Flowmaster finally get something going for this platform. You are mistaken though - Thermal R&D DOES include mid-pipes in their kits. They offer just mid-pipes, mid-pipe back, or dp back systems
Bro, Flowmaster always sounds way better than any other system on a V6 in my opinion. You can never go wrong with Flowmaster.

I got the system installed last Friday. Drones like crazy, anywhere below 2.500rpm, simply unbearable for longer trips and the sound overall seems very cheap actually. Not sure if my system has a damage but I will try to return it. The customer service just told me I should talk to the exhaust team since it has been installed already. I waited 16mins in the line until I gave up and called service again. They told me expected waiting time would be around 30mins... not for me. Just wrote them a mail, waiting for response.
I’m starting to think my system has a different muffler or I’m extremely hard of hearing. Others have now reported their muffler lost packing and got louder after time. Mine has stayed the same. I measured decibels for another member of the ST groups and found my system was noticeably quieter than his. I hope they make it right for you, my experience has been a good one.

Thanks for the Vid! I just had the Thermal R&D 3" Cat-Back Exhaust System with Mid Pipes - Coated Tips Installed today 11-10-23 and the sound is awesome! But your right. Your not going to get that deep deep V8 sound out of a V6. But it still sounds great. The tech who installed my new exhaust said the diff between the quality of OEM and the Thermal is unmatched. So glad i got it on Black Friday deal. The money i saved, paid for the install. 👍👍

I have this model exhaust for sale. I purchased it for my 2023 AVIATOR, installed it yesterday went for a nice test run with it didn’t like it took it off and installed the stock. Will sell for a good price. PICK UP ONLY. Willing to meet up. New Jersey.

Thank you sir!!! It’s definitely some competition for Thermal. We’ll see what the price point is once released, I believe that will be a factor for some.
Just have a hard time getting excited about fake stuff, like exhausts that have a dual tip splitter.
I have enjoyed Flowmaster on my other vehicles. But, thus far I have sawed off the stock tips and installed 3.5 inch straight through tips.
I have heard some good sounding 6cyl BMWs, and this system seems to sound good, but hard to tell from a video.

I feel like the ST was really performance driven when it was thought up, but then executives decided to make it more user friendly and cheaper. The aftermarket has been quick to adapt and show the true potential of the platform. Thanks for watching!!
I’m glad they didn’t make it the most expensive one.
I wanted performance in a SUV that can haul my dogs and equipment, can’t imagine any other options that I would want.
I looked at the Grand Cherokee L, but needed to get a $73,000 Summit to get a Hemi!

Did they install it flipped ? Looks like the inner tips are shorter and belong on the outside hence the rounded contour of the vehicle
Someone else said the same thing. The outer pipe does stick out further than the inner, but only by a half inch or so. It doesn’t really bother me and I’m OCD about tips. Thanks for watching!!

Has Ford found a permanent solution to flex pipe rattle?
Not that I’m aware of. I think they are only replacing the failed parts under warranty. My cats are on their way out now. So we’ll see how they handle the aftermarket exhaust.
3 inch or 2.5 inch system?
It starts at 2.5” out of the down pipe, then tapers up to 3” from the DP back. The system is made of 409 stainless steel. Thanks for watching!!
How much horsepower and torque added
The dyno sheet they provided was 21 rwhp and 17 ft lbs over stock on a 2021 ST. Thanks for watching!!
How is interior drone?
Some think it’s too much, I’m about half deaf so I don’t notice it much. At highway speeds for long stretches it gets a little drone but I will change drive modes or blip the throttle and it goes away. Thanks for watching!

Timeline for release?
3-4 weeks is what they’re telling me as of last week
As of this morning they have had fixture delays and are now 4-6 weeks.
