You are my favorite Mr. Mc Donald. Your solos are never too complicated and that's what a sax amateur like me needs. I learned the sax listening to your records. The solo on your rendition of "As time goes by" of 30 years ago, is a masterpiece of beauty, wich I use in any occasion. Thank you for your videos.
ribbon mic, probably, not to detract from his playing but that extreme warmth is really the rolloff of frequencies above 10kish as well as abnormally strong proximity effect from the bidirectional pattern.
@@peterchoe and yet, if i were in the that room while he played, this is exactly what i would expect to hear. I don't think the mixing desk played a major roll...this is what it sounds like, up close and personal.
I just loved this performance. You, the sax player, had such an amazing interpretation of this outstanding standard, on a beautiful, balanced Action (you just had to have played with the greats), such amazing conception and technique. The bassman, spot on. The vibeman-incredible solo and such subtle accompaniment! Drummer, great hair, and glad to see you're not playing heavy metal. I ask myself every day why, just why, doesn't America appreciate this music and want to enjoy it in the capable hands of young artists. Bravo. Keep it coming. You are the solution. With love, Tony Heath (Birdland Ranch, Canelo Arizona).
You are amazing my friend. I am going through a lot of anxiety and depression shit and your music helps tremendously Bro. Keep being awesome and know that you are important.
Sam Zich you are important as well and you have a special place in this world. Remember this video and my comment reach out to me if you need to chat. We are all important and special.
This is sooooooooo weil played and satisfying to listen to!!!! The simplicity and pureness is much appreciated! Thank you very much and best wishes from Vienna, Austria! :-)
There is just something about the old TH and C 400"s that is just rewarding to play. They are heavy old war horses that speak with an elegance.... like a little 10M on the bottom..but richer and more mellow, and like a Mark VI on the top at times, but not as thin and airy. Such interesting horns....underrated probably because they are relatively scarce.
and becasue Selmer downgraded them to military band instruments when they bought out the brand. The mechanics are fare more ergonomic and easier than the Conn 10M and way more in tune throughout the range in my experience.
many times after your videos the next one is some of Scott Hamilton. For me you are one level highter. I know this is something is not possible to measure, but your interpretation is something else. By the way, you are my teacher. Thank you so much
Soul and great sax is musical sex. Searched YT and found you. So pure pleasure and your heart is showing. The interpretation is personally rewarding. You have escaped earthen bounds and shared with us. If I was backing you I'd probably die being overcome with pure pleasure. Thanks for sharing.
Clean and smooth sound! who's in 2024?
There’s nothing like when someone is playing and their passion for it pours out. Plays that sax like dancing with a fine lady. Thank you Sir.
Depends what you mean by dancing, and a 'fine lady'; though I think we are musing along the same lines. Oh Yes!
This is true!!!

Beautiful tone. It's so warm I had to turn on the A/C.
It's wonderful how vintage woodwinds all have a distinct personality.
You should be heard everywhere! You have one of the warmest sounds I have ever heard. Articulation is perfect! And this solo can't be beat...

You play the sax effortlessly and would make the masters proud!!! I.e Ben Webster, Illinois Jaquette, and the king of ballads Dexter Gordon.
