Bob is dead. i think someone mentioned it in part 2. Maybe whatever issues he was dealing with, caught up with him, or maybe since his house was clean for a while and if he let it get dirty again, the bacteria caught him this time.
You can't really criticize him, he just got in a mess, he ended a relationship, got in a period of depression and just didn't feel like doing anything; and over a period of time it just got worse and worse until he thought he could never clean it himself, still it puts a smile on my face at the end when he's walking in to his new house :).
missxradio, I'm living from boxes right now, suitcases too, at my moms, I suffer from all of those disorders, the worst being depression and OCD, it's really tough somedays. I'm young though, 26, so I'm working on nipping this in the bud now.
It's actually a really nice house underneath it all. I think he'll keep it up for a while but after 6 months his old habits will be back- some people just seem to be blind to what everyone else can see
Wow, just wow. This has GOT to be the worst house I've seen on HCIYH. The reveal was amazing -- I got a little verklempt myself! I don't think it'll last though. No matter if you go through a bad break up, you NEVER let your house dirty. Anyone who does that is lazy. Just look at leon the professional, man was sad but had a clean life. If Bob didnt really kept it so clean after one month, i have no sympathy for the guy, he does not convince me, ppl like bob need to be washed too along houses, those clothes and the guy needs a shave.
Why does everyone think the answer to people feeling down is going to pay to hear someone tell them to get their act together (i.e - shrink)? I feel sorry for him that he was that sad that he just didn't care anymore for a long time. But the ending is a happy one. I hope he found a new girlfriend and he is taking great pride in his clean home.
How long does it take the women to do an average house/flat? Is this filmed over 2 or 3 days or a week or 2? My house is just a little cluttered, not too dirty, so I'm sure they could sweep in and make it over in a day or two ;-)

If if he was depressed he could have hired someone to clean for him at least once and a while and it would never get that bad, or even have a friend come over and help. 8 years without cleaning. Sorry there is no excuse for that ever. He is a hoarder he needs a shrink!!!! If I walked into that house I would have called the city to condem it!
I hope he lost about 50 pounds and got a haircut and beard trim. Don't have a clue how he's doing now, 12 years later, but I do hope he kept that lovely place clean once it got there. It didn't look as if he really was keeping it so, but it wasn't as bad as before.
@beyzasmum I have a large brother in law and he doesn't wash his bum well. I yell at him every time he goes at my place, he leaves poo stains cause its still between his cheaks. In other words the guy doesn't wipe his bum well.
Where's the compassion? People don't often commit slow suicide over a break-up alone. Likely he'd endured many traumas in his life, and had been taught terrible ways of coping with those traumas (evidenced by all the bottles of alcohol). The break-up was just the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back". Cleaning the house fixes the symptom...which is great! But he also needs help fixing the problem. Good talk therapy could give him the emotional health to maintain a happy life and home!
You can tell his health is improved just by the way he talks.

These are the episodes I love...Where the home owner is so genuinely touched by having their house cleaned. I really hoped he's kept it up.
