I do a version of this where I go into a messy room, feel overwhelmed and turn on the timer just to see what I can do in 5 minutes. When the timer goes off I move onto a different room and do 5 minutes there. It's not so boring & it REALLY makes a difference; am always amazed in what I can accomplish in five mintues. I usually have music on to motivate me too!

Kathleen Sauer That’s a great idea! So instead of mindlessly going back-and-forth between rooms all day which is what I do and none of my rooms actually get finished I’ll actually focus on one room for five minutes that might help me out. Thanks!

Thank you for inspiring me... going to share this tip with my kids and their wives when they get married... I cleaned a bunch of things.. infact 3 rooms! ... Each time I began a task I started counting 60 seconds. Wow! Got a lot done.. but found that I did about 15 things (not counted in the one minute) ... hehe. Total .. about an hour.. (included some mending of clothes).. yes I'm a mom. Feeling good about myself.

Made my bed, dusted a shelf in the bedroom and quickly vacuumed the room while watching! I feel so accomplished to have got all that done in ten mins. Room isn't perfect but I see a lot of one or two min things that will help in the berm alone! Thanks for the heatwave inspiration. I've been waiting for a cooler day.

  • @BlackAngusYoung
    @BlackAngusYoung 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

I like the simplicity. One minute may not be enough time to do some things, but then I'd rather set a smaller goal or add an extra minute than start off with more. Nothing wrong with splitting the bathroom up into a few minute-tasks if need be. I think I'd still get each task done quicker than if I said 5 mins to clean the whole thing, or whatever.
Not that I've really cleaned my bathroom this year.

when I had a toddler and after he ate the highchair was a mess, I'd put the chair in the shower for 5 minutes w hot water, after that all the sticky stuff came off easily with a dry rag. I did this once a week or so just wiping down daily. This was the "deep clean" i did once a week or so so get out the nitty gritty in the seams etc..

I love the fact that you and Sophie from My Great Challenge, prefer not to use a bucket and just use the mop over the sink. I have had every mop you can name, including the finest whizz mops, but I have to keep rinsing them under the tap, otherwise dirty water goes back on the floor again. I managed to get one with a double bucket, but you could hardly put any water in it, as they were not very big. So now I have seen you do the same, I been trying to get a Casabella mop, but they do not do them in the UK. So then I saw your Bee mop, so googled and no one over here does them. However, I have managed to get a very similar one, from a local shop called Lakeland, that they call the Squizzo mop, which is the same design as the casabella and bee mop, that I ordered today and can't wait for it to arrive, so I can not only do my floor with it, but also the bathroom tiles. Thank you ladies for all your hard work and inspiration you have given me. I was in such a muddle and got so stressed when it came to cleaning and getting organised. I now have conquered my kitchen and it always looks nice and tidy now. I have got the family all trained watching you guys and we now wash up as we go along. We never go to bed leaving an untidy kitchen, or bathroom. Lounge is getting there, but the main bugbear is my bedroom, as my lot use it as a dumping ground. Will get there in the end.

  • @brightpurpleviking

Brilliant as usual! I can do anything in one minute :-). I think we psych ourselves out when we look at cleaning, thinking it will take much longer than it actually does. As a result, we freeze and the task just gets worse and worse.

I know people who are "clean" but they're homes are untidy and disorganized because they obsess over something being cleaned a certain way while the rest of the house goes down the tubes. Or their homes are super-clean, over-tidy spartan museums because they spend too much time cleaning and you don't really want to visit them because you and your family are not allowed to sit here, step there, put your drink there. For these people, floors, surfaces have to be cleaned with a very specific cleaning product, on hands and knees or not at all. Cleaning most things this way is time-consuming and hard to maintain. That kind of cleaning method is also overwhelming. This video of yours is definitely one of my favorites because it will help me greatly. I'm a tidy person but not a scrubber (I'm a lazy cleaner).

Good job, thanks for the motivation!!
I bought a Hoover Steam Mop with a triangular, swivel head that gets into the corners. It comes with 3 reusable pads (machine washable) and heats up in less than a minute and it's so easy to use and store. Less than $100 from Amazon. It's the BEST investment I've made in a long time when it comes to cleaning tools. I no longer hate to mop!!!

Oh my gosh, cleaning the shower with a mop is so clever! I never would have thought of that, but I love it and I'm trying it later today. I go the SUPER lazy route and use one of those sprays you don't have to wipe off after every shower, but sometimes the tile needs a good scrub. I'm giving your method a try.

    You are quite right.
I can vacuum my entire apartment 330 square feet, in seven minutes.
When I discovered this, by timing it one day, years ago, I felt ashamed that I had ever delayed or put off vacuuming the floor.
    .
Seven minutes is nothing, the vacuumed (rubber stud) floor stays clean looking on average for five days duration.

I use to use a mop and bucket until I found the Swiffer mop. I love it so much better. You add a liquid bottle of cleaning solution on the back and spray the floor as needed while you go. You use a mop pad on the bottom of the mop and toss when done. No more dunking in the water and wringing it out.

I mop my mirrors and windows, too. Just spray the glass with Windex, place a sheet if paper towel over a clean dry sponge mop and start mopping, it's a little tricky keeping the paper on the sponge but it gets easier with practice. Takes a fraction of the time.

What is a 'B mop'? Or, maybe I misheard, is it 'D' or 'V' mop? After years of frustration, I finally found the perfect mop - the one made by OXO, costs a little more, but so worth it. I have used the kitchen sink, too. I understand some think that's gross, but if you wash and sanitize the sink after, what's the difference, really? Also, I always use two containers, one with hot water with a small amt of cleaner (Simple green or other), and the other with plain water to rinse the mop. With only one bucket, you're really just spreading dirty water around. Try it, makes a difference. And, thanks for all your tips!

Ugh. Perfectionism is definitely my issue. So if I can't find the time to clean perfectly, I don't clean at all. Crazy, huh? Watching this video seems to have made something click in my head. I have 1 minute to do things. Even if it is just one thing at a time. Let me just see how this works :)

I like this 1 min rule, very motivating once you do it in a min, I start something else and then I can't stop cleaning lol.

This is my go-to video when I need motivation to do my own chores at home (where I don't have the motivation of being paid to clean)!
Main thing I choose to do different is no Fantastic or bleach products etc. Vinegar, baking soda, and/or phosphate-free dish soap are all good at scrubbing up the bathroom. Vinegar spray and hydrogen peroxide spray replace bleach and Lysol.

My occupational therapist suggested I try the one minit rule, took me 3 seconds to forget what it was and 3 weeks to look it up. It does look like a good idea though, I should try it.

You have a beautiful home! I am totally stealing the mopping the shower tip. I usually do get in there with a sponge, but maybe this can be easier to keep it clean between big cleans. Thanks.

Suggestion: It's even MORE FUN if you have a beer first....especially if you haven't had a whole beer in more than a year! Yeah. THanks for the tip!

Although longer than one-minute, I unload the clean dishes and load the dirty dishes into the dishwasher while I'm waiting the 2 mins my chai takes in the microwave. I always thought it took longer to do it but then one day I did it, and I couldn't believe it was actually the same amount of time!

Norwex envro and Norwex Window cloth is what I use on windows and mirrors. Less then a minute. Not time consuming at all. Wipe with wet.. wipe with dry... done!
