I think my favorite build for Zag fists is to start with Lambent Plume, keep it equipped the entire run, and haul ass. You lose a lot of control over your boons because you can't use god keepsakes, but it doesn't matter as much when you can walk up to the final boss with an 80% dodge chance.
This Was my first Clear. Got Athena attack, it's almost impossible to lose if you just Spam attack.
Yup, I went through 20 Heat with Zag Fists, Plume, and Athena for good measure like it was a jog in the park.
I may have finally learned to use all the other weapons competently...but the fists are my babies.
Nothing quite like doing low heat EM4 runs like a damn tornado, and if you happen to get the hyper delivery combo from Hermes boons too, that's just the cherry on the cream.
At that point, you're effectively immortal more than 50% of the time, and then on TOP of that, you melt through bosses like they're generic shades in tartarus.

My guy, this shows how long you’ve been playing. I’ve played close to 70 hours, finished the game 6 times, and only just now got the option to even talk to Bouldy 😂
Same with even having Demeter boons as an option. You don’t encounter her until you reach the surface for the first time
@@meinkanta I don't think that's the case with Demeter, because personally I encountered her way before I reached the surface.

I have only learned that you can do that from his videos, I don't even have that option available I have just beaten the main storyline (whatever amount of wins that took cus it was like 50 runs).
I was spending all my nectar trying to find out what happens when you max out the hearts, then shoving them all on meg after youtube showed spoiled it for me lol (still haven't even used the summon).
i guess I'll buck the trend and say I prefer the videos _with_ twitch chat. I think yall are hilarious and I love the rapport Dan has with everyone, as well as the random discussions that come up as a result.
As a beginner who just got their first hades kill. In my opinion this vid is not beginner strats. The biggest thing that stood out and wasnt talked about is demiter. You cant get her until you have gotten to hades and second her 10 stack cold makes many fights much much simpler as shown with your thesisus and bull fight as well as the tiny vermin mini-boss. The Thesisus bull fight is so hard, i bet most beginners never get past it.
Just getting back into Hades speedrunning in H2 anticipation, and very excited to see beginner’s guides still posted by the cleanest creator on the site!

I disagree. Best weapon for beginners is shield. It is the most versatile weapon, allows you to adapt you variety of builds, has great defense mechanism as new player is not able to avoid attacks like you, you can go with range build with special or you can just yolo charging attack over enemies while blocking their attacks. Gloves are hard as fk - all attacks are short distance, means bigger exposure to enemies, means difficult to dodge.
i thought the same lmao (im still a pretty new player) but i got way farther with the spear and the fists than the shield somehow. not sure why, but something clicked better with those than with the shield.
First ever win was attempt 36, Chaos Shield… really owed it to both Crystal Clarity and Stubborn Roots, didn’t even realize there was a Green side of the mirror 😂 I’ve come a loooong way since then

Finally picked up the game last week. 10 runs in, beat Hydra. _Nice to see ma boi Dio get some love._ Great run 👌
I was really struggling to beat the game on 0 heat so I started looking up some guides and stuff, came across a build of Chiron aspect with Dionysus on special and Aphrodite on attack and that alone helped me clear all the way to 20 heat on the bow in a row without losing once (finally lost on 20 heat). It helped me a ton to farm up titan blood and diamonds and ambrosia. The main reason is that its super consistent, as long as you have at least 1 reroll incase dio doesnt offer the special first time, I hit this build basically 100% of the time, some runs were stronger than others cause of the hammers offered and hitting the right 3rd and 4th gods, the right hermes, the right duos showing up, but even missing on most of the best secondary stuff, just having dionysus on special with chiron was strong enough to clear up to a certain heat anyway.
I just got my first win a few minutes ago with Chiron's aspect on Coronacht (that sweet sweet double status effect). I didn't think that I would do it since I spent all my death defiances. Thankfully I got the Athena x Demeter duo boon at Styx's Temple which gave me just enough wiggle room to push through.
Chat was wild in the beginning 🤣
I got my first win the other day! 24th attempt, completely blind to the game and roguelikes as a genre. I used the Heart-seeking Bow with no aspect (because I forgot aspects existed, I've literally never used titan's blood) and got really lucky with a Zeus-Dionysus Duo and the Daedalus Enancement that gets rid of your charge shot but lets you continuously fire. Still had 2 death defiances in the bank by the end!
You’ve mentioned in a few videos how you need more ideas so how about a Zag Cast build? It doesn’t matter what aspect, Beowulf works if you can find a way to make it work but I think it would be really funny.
I’ve done a zag cast build on Poseidon sword! Pretty fun but VERY slow. Even harder if you ban snow burst

do you mean zag cast as in: no boon on your cast and shackle on?
My first kill was unbuffed zag fists. Didn't really understand making a consistent build other than i ended up with a bunch of attack speed buffs so i just held attack the entire time.
Edit: just found the screenshot and i actually also had like every attack specific boon. Long knuckle, concentrated knuckle, epic divine strike, plus blade dash and frozen touch so just a couple of dodges before i sat and spammed attack
i specifically remember to this day getting my first win with zag aspect sheild and im almost certian it was because i got charged shot and ig i just played very well
About the dash discussion, I feel like some weaker dashes' effects, like demeter's, could destroy projectiles or slow them down or something as compensation.
My first win was with Aspect of Zagreus Fist. I had 13% dodge from the fist and managed to get roughly 18% more dodge from the Hermes keepsake.
My first win was the shield (zag, or maybe chaos aspect?) with charged shot. I just kept blocking constantly beacause i sucked at dodging. It was sooo slow.
I think my first two wins were with Arthur followed by Gilgamesh. Even though I now see why other aspects give you a lot more, I will always have a special place in my heart for those two.
First clear was with the rifle, no aspects still need 20 keys to unlock the rest of the mirror
Would have to agree the fists are best for a beginner. Just got my first clear earlier today with them (took them because they were the bonus weapon).
I started playing like a week or two ago and my first escape (#25, going back through the logs) was on adamant rail. I had Stubborn Roots so I probably just stalled out the fight enough that Hades couldn't DPS me down through it.
Commenting as I watch the video. After Party is great for new players in Styx--some rooms can deal a whole lot of damage, such as the satyr and big rat minibosses when you don't have a summon to just burst them down, so there's a decent chance you just die of attrition before you leave, especially when you're still learning the Hades fight and you're trying to go in with all five rooms cleared to have as much power as you can muster.
I guess I'll go over more of the build in case someone shows up who cares lol
god pool for that run was ares/athena/demeter/dionysus. piercing fire/triple bomb from hammers (only the latter one really mattered), ice wine and stubborn roots for duo boons. I had athena dash of course (it's too good), strong drink was on there which probably helped with attrition a lot, and at least one additional dash from hermes. I also had killing freeze which is probably pretty relevant for ice wine. from the mirror I had a fair amount unlocked by this point, notably +30 health, 3sec stygian soul, the extra dash, stubborn defiance. the security log says "Form: REDACTED" so I probably didn't have any titan's blood stuff unlocked yet (mind you that stuff is really hard to come by until your first clear).
so I just took the run really slowly, was like a 45 minute clear lol. a big thing was that this build could do relatively decent damage while sitting behind cover. so if say Hades was about to do his laser attack, I could ice wine him, tag him once to apply doom (I had it on the regular attack, which is probably not great objectively speaking, but it worked out), duck behind cover, and triple bomb over the cover while he sat in the animation. once I lost stubborn defiance I just played really slowly and focused on dodging until I knew I had enough health to cover a few mistakes, especially because his laser attack was just free DPS time.
not optimal in any objective sense, but extremely safe given the lack of any pact of punishment stuff.

According to my save file my first win was with Zag sword and Zeus somehow. When I started only the sword and fists felt good to me, now I like using almost everything except for the sword.
i got my first win with the broken athena-ares doom build, on I think level 2 zag sword, and my second win also on lvl 2 zag sword with the rapid attacks and healing attacks with a bunch of other defensive boons so I basically couldn't take damage
My favorite build for the fists Drunken strike + Heartbreak Flourish. I also typically have privileged status and the aspect of Talos active as well.

What is top best weapons duo boon for speed run. My quickest is Eris with sea storm
Beowulf + Mirage Shot
First win for me was basic sword with Life steal sword. I focused on health and soeme curses as a side gig and dmg reduction
One time i had the gauntlets and got a lot of special atack boons and upgrades,i could charge it for 200% damage, and had 3 boons that gave like like 112% extra damage and Aires's boon made an extra red atack that did about 100 damage when i finished upgrading all boons and upgrades, and one of the other hammer upgrades let me heal 2 health when i killed with the special atack, and if i hit an enemy 12 times i dealt even more damage, so at max i could deal like 700 damage with an single atack
My first win was with aspect of Gilgamesh merciful end with high crit. I had a hard time beating dad, so searched for some better builds with high damage
I think that the shield with the special or the bow or gun are much better for a beginner. Yes, you need to learn how to kite well, but learning this is much better and easier then having to be completely close range to an enemy, which is not going to go well at all.
I think my first was a triple jab flurry spear Achilles. Pure blind luck, just was a super strong attack build. Could never replicate it until I learned the game better and failed alot before that point

I'm curious what the biggest nuke you can get with Demeter fist is? I'm imagining some sort of Aphro attack/Artemis special setup with their duo boon, extra damage on weaken, extra damage on crits, etc. and the explosive upper hammer?

Second, do you use Kb/M or controller? I prefer controller, but is one "easier" than the other?

Awesome run. Premium vintage is a more valuable boon with no God's pride mirror ability. Much greater chance of seeing an exilir and getting free health.
Level one Zag fists were my first win. Felt like it took me forever to get the first one.

does anyone know what that ambrosia number represents in the keepsakes screen?
I think that's just how many he has on the file, maybe? You can spend ambrosia on that screen to get more uses per runs out of the summons, so it's relevant to know how much you have

Do I understand correctly that "jolted" works with chain lightning? Or does it only works with lightning strikes?
Chain lightning can apply Jolted yes

best you can do? just use a key... then you can budget as much as you want... easy...
There are no aspects until you clear the game once
You can start leveling up aspects as soon as you unlock all weapons. And you can get up to 6 titan blood from beating Meg/the Furies on zero heat. So it's possible to have an aspect before your 1st clear.
