Just to clarify, I'm not questioning or talking down on Hoshi's vocal ability in any way. All I'm saying is, because he's in such a large group and is in charge of performance, he doesn't get as many opportunities as he should to show them off. Personally, when it comes to singing, I'd say Hoshi is #4 in the group with Seungkwan, DK, and Woozi ahead of him.
Woozi and Bumzu worked with Hoshi, yes. But the thing is, they were just supporting Hoshi's idea. Hoshi was really amazed how they could understand and get what he wanted. So working on the song went pretty smooth.
The reaction I’ve been waiting for. Thanks PD. I particularly liked how Hoshi uses his fingers in the choreo to emulate moving spider legs; and the sexiness of parts of the choreo is well done (without overtly sexualizing him) like the floor scenes with the paint, the arched back on the carpet and the woman’s fingers on his neck. Brilliant.
I think more Carats need to talk about Choi Youngjoon, the choreographer who made “Spider” & many other SEVENTEEN title tracks like "Very Nice", "Don't Wanna Cry", "Home", "Good To Me", and “HIT”!
I completely agree that Hoshi just has this fire in him, this passion and greed that I haven’t really seen in others and it just jumps out especially when he gets the chance to really put himself out there like with Spider. I remember Woozi saying something along the lines of Hoshi being an artist who knows what he wants and completely executes it the way he wants, and why Hoshi is one of the best when it comes to concepts in seventeen. His passion and greed has also probably influenced the other members as well, especially performance team. You can see the way performance team has changed throughout the years, and I definitely think it’s largely bc of Hoshi. All the members of perf team have their own projects and solos. And they each have improved drastically these past few years and have been able to show more of their artistry and individuality. Honestly, I also think that Dino definitely emulates Hoshi the most. The greed and passion for more is definitely present in Dino, I see that fire in him too, and I do think that it only continues to grow. And this is what makes Seventeen such a great group bc they don’t just let one person take the spotlight, instead they have this uniqueness to beautifully synergize with each other and bring the level of potential even higher, especially while having members like Hoshi and Dino, who’s hunger and passion is so apparent, that it certainly influences the other members too.
harder choreos started taking off after SHINee's lucifer!!!! seventeen era definitely cemented it, but Lucifer was the one where people were like "oh shit wait thats hard"!!! i love bringing this up bc shinee rlly do be setting the trends,,, and i actually saw a lot of taemin in spider!! which just makes sense considering how big of a shinee stan hoshi is. im super proud of him, this is really up there
Seventeen has so many amazing vocalists and unique tones of voice, when you isolate each member you can be awed by every single one of them, but of course in a group and when the bar is set so high by Seungkwan and DK’s INSANE vocals it can be harder to remember they’re all incredible
Wtf this is a banger. I'm not a seventeen fan so good thing I watch your videos cuz I woulda missed out on this and that would have been a big mistake omg 🔥

This is what I'm seeing from co-carats: SEVENTEEN Members' Solo Performance Unit: S Jun - Silent Boarding Hoshi - Spider The8 - Side By Side Dino - coming soon Vocal/HipHop Unit: V Coming soon Vocal/HipHop Unit: T Coming soon
I agree so much on the song complementing Hoshi's voice. He has unique catchy voice. His voice is the most attractive in the entire singing part. And the choreography... man... I have to watch the video again and again to understand all those metaphors behind. There are so many details. That's why I love him most in seventeen.
Thanks for the reaction PD! It's no secret that Hoshi has wanted to release a solo. We've gotten glimpses here and there in the past. This was the perfect way for Hoshi to introduce himself as an artist. He has a lot he wants to show and he successfully showcased so much of his color as an artist through this. Also, he personally reached out to the Rigend director SVT worked with for Fallin' Flower to work on this. Awesome choice imo bc the mv is incredible! You might've missed Jun's solo debut in February with Silent Boarding Gate and Crow. It's c-pop so promos were mainly geared towards the chinese audience. SBG has an mv on the Seventeen yt channel. I hope you watch it!
18:26 "Do you hear the little quiver in his voice ?" (proceeds to replay twice) 21:07 same part "oohooooh !" (replays again) Same ! That is my favorite note of the song. I don't usually have a favorite note in a song X)
originally hoshi and woozi's positions in seventeen were switched but they ended up they way they are bc hoshi had such a passion for dance ! originally woozi was a lead dancer and hoshi was a lead vocal :)
Each members of SVT has their own colors and styles but whenever they perform no one over powers each other, they have a sense of oneness as a team and that's years of training and performing together 💕 that's not something that you can achieve in one sleeping NOW What I love about this song is that they literally let Hoshi do what he's best in doing and letting him to be more indulgent to his color as an artist and performer ✨the confidence he exudes can tell that he waited for this moment. Spider is all Hoshi the attitude, the dance routine and the overall production, and I can only finger count artists who can pull up this concept naturally in the industry nowadays. ALSOOOOOO Hoshi is a BIG SHAWOL🤩 so the influence is there 💕 *just saying 😂🤣😅 STAN QUALITY 💎 This is the QUALITY SEVENTEEN have 👌🏻✨ and if your still not stanning I don't even know what you are doing right now as a kpop fan 😅🤷🏻♀️
"Hoshi is someone who pushes himself" ....Yes! Huhu! During L&R era, he was on a radio interview with just him and Woozi....and he said he and Woozi had 6 songs composed...and there's a song called Tiger... But then we don't hear anything about that...even up to now... :))
I really LOVE this song. Hoshi's voice is distinctive in a way I've never heard before. But more than that, this song was written by someone who understands R&B. It's very VERY good in it's mellow vibe. Hoshi's dancing is fantastic and I just love listening to the passion in this song.
As a person with a lisp, I never considered singing because I'm embarrassed. Hearing Hoshi's lisp knowing he's an amazing artist and performer just MAKES MY HEART JUMP WITH JOY!
PD, I'm a Brazilian Architect and media researcher and Hoshi-utted K-pop fan ^^ I'm putting together a piece about Hoshi and his attributes as an idol from a theoretical perspective and I'd love to speak to you. I'm likely gonna email your media team too but I wanted to leave this here anyway. Hoshi's passion and hunger are what drew me to him and he climbed his way to the absolute top of my bias list because he's someone I want to support as an artist for as long as I can. I'm completely infatuated with his infatuation for the stage. "Spider" put all of his qualities on full display and it's been great to watch him be showered with so much praise. I don't think he gets nowhere near as much as he should for being such a compelling, addictive, endearing, talented and perseverant icon. These are the qualities that make up a great, complete idol, one that belongs in the upper halls of the Pantheon of idol-ness. Now that I've had my emotional moment xD I also wrote a thread analysing some of the sets for the Music Video as an Architect ^^ twitter.com/modoohoranghae/status/1377982677060554752?s=20
You talked about this release opening grounds for more solos and I totally agree but I believe that this new round of solos started with Jun's Silent Boarding Gate. Now we have Hoshi's Spider and soon we'll have The8's Side by Side. There's a theory that SVT will launch solo releases in unit order with Performance Team releasing songs that start with S, and the other groups releasing songs that start with V & T. It's kinda of a weird theory but I love it. Seventeen has always been creative with their albums formats of subunits and age lines so I can see them doing it XD
i think the mv was directed by rigend and hoshi personally reached out to them since he has a specific concept and style in mind that only them can pull off and for the choreography hoshi worked with team same/choi youngjoon
PD I'll recommend you check out the spider species Argiope Argentata since a lot of the design for the MV is inspired in it: Hoshi's styling, set design, COLORS, lighting, pretty much everything!
somehow, watching Spider for a shit ton of times, there's this small Taemin vibes in it, even when he moves. It's just a bit, and still full of Hoshi. Idk
I totally agree with you about Hoshi's voice in this! Especially that weak whispery voice he does in the chorus! It really shocked me at first, I never thought that I would hear that from Hoshi. Even though you kind of hear that in Touch, his other solo, this one really "hit different". It's so shaky, yet somehow, there's so much stability in his voice. It's just simply amazing. That part is easily my favorite part of the song!
I agree with you PD hoshi is definitely the member i would describe as driven. Not to say the others aren't or they couldn't but hoshi has always seemed like the member who would actually push for more. He's ambitious and very driven, very passionate and you can see this in his personality
Another person (not me) pointed out that the male dancers represent the web, and the female dancers are the spider. It’s more apparent in the Studio Choom and Mnet countdown stage. It’s just brilliant! I have also had my eye on BSS since the start. It’s clear those three have some very long-term goals...
Our SEVENTEEN main crew wrote this song. Hoshi himself, Woozi, Bumzu and Kitae nim all co-wrote this song. When I heard this song for the first time, I thought that this doesn't sound like SEVENTEEN. But after few listening, this mixtape did exactly sound like Pledis itself. This song is very interesting experience to me.
I’ve always said this, and I’ll say it again. Hoshi is a triple threat. He literally studies and perfect his craft to the ☕️... There are songs on SVT album that only the performance team sang and I always thought hoshi’s voice was a breath of fresh air because it’s so distinctive
It's funny to me that you say that Hoshi doesn't get a live stage, but he got it today when you uploaded this video (not that you could have found it while filming, of course 😂😂😂). Thank you for this reaction, it was amazing and wonderful! I love how you analyzed not only Hoshi's solo debut (and instantly tried to buy it after finishing the MV), but also K-Pop in general
To be honest, when I had first started listening to SVT, performance unit was always my favourite (since one of my two biases in SVT at that time, was Jun and he is still my bias). I liked performance units' songs in the album more, was in awe of their performance(my favourite being Lilli Yabbay). Needless to say when I had had my first brush up with Hoshi's voice and his singing, he nearly bias wrecked me(especially when I heard Don't Wanna Cry, Change Up and even Just Do It. I might be missing out some other songs in which Hoshi stood out to me). So, Hoshi became my favourite vocalist of SVT. And this is not to offend SVT's two gorgeous main vocals. It was a testimony of how good SVT's vocalists in general are. Another voice that had always stood out to me in all SVT songs was that of Dino. I need him to pop off with his signature style, like Hoshi. So when this song first came out, I wasn't actively listening to SVT. But this song came in my automatic suggestions on Spotify. And when I heard it, I got reminded of how and why Hoshi is still my favourite vocalist and my favourite performer of SVT. The fact that the song sounded so well seemed very normal to me. "Oh it's Hoshi. Of course, it sounds good." It was like that. Now, in 2022, I am standing with 3 SVT biases-Jun, Joshua and lately, Seungkwan (he kind of took the crown of my favourite vocalist). Still Hoshi's vocal tone remains my favourite in SVT. I wouldn't say Hoshi's tone is underexplored in SVT songs since he has many vocal parts and his voice stands out. But I am glad that Hoshi could come out with his own style and sound, which despite being not so original on its own as PD-nim said, is pretty original because of Hoshi himself. It is bleached with his vocal colour, his creativity, his style(including his beautiful lisp). And I hope Hoshi keeps coming out with these songs because this style of music needs a Hoshi-fication. I wrote it quite late and quite long but I couldn't help but leave this comment pretty much for my own self.
The way this was produced by the same producers (Woozi and Bumzu) and choreographed by the same choreographers and dancers (Team Same) that SVT has always been working with just proves how amazing and creative their whole team is. GOD, I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
I LOVE his voice and I LOVE this choreography and just the overall vibe of the song. The song is so intoxicating I feel like I’m listening to it for the first time every time.
Hoshi is not a main vocalist but he is a lead vocalist even from predebut, but he loves perform that's why company decide him to be leader of performance team.
yea Hoshi is definitely "greedy" in the sense that he is super ambitious and passionate about his career - I'm really looking forward to what he comes out with in the future as a soloist

All I'm saying is, because he's in such a large group and is in charge of performance, he doesn't get as many opportunities as he should to show them off. Personally, when it comes to singing, I'd say Hoshi is #4 in the group with Seungkwan, DK, and Woozi ahead of him.
@@juanpaula152 and woozi too
He actually promoted and performed Spider on MCountdown few hours before you uploaded this PD-nim🥰
Also Jun got Crow and Silent Boarding Gate also and the did put them on streaming music sites
i heard it was because of carats’ requests!! 🥰
Woozi and Bumzu worked with Hoshi, yes. But the thing is, they were just supporting Hoshi's idea. Hoshi was really amazed how they could understand and get what he wanted. So working on the song went pretty smooth.
When PD said that the ones who have potential for solo careers are BooSeokSoon O.o
where?
Agreed😍😍😍!!!
Hoshi has the most underrated/underappreciated vocals hes so damn good
I noticed that I unitentinally hold my breath when the bass drops and he says "I can't breath" that's so freaking cool
OMG YEAAHH
Our KING Hoshi Was Born to be a Performer
The reaction I’ve been waiting for. Thanks PD. I particularly liked how Hoshi uses his fingers in the choreo to emulate moving spider legs; and the sexiness of parts of the choreo is well done (without overtly sexualizing him) like the floor scenes with the paint, the arched back on the carpet and the woman’s fingers on his neck. Brilliant.
+ that male dancer squeezing him also
I think more Carats need to talk about Choi Youngjoon, the choreographer who made “Spider” & many other SEVENTEEN title tracks like "Very Nice", "Don't Wanna Cry", "Home", "Good To Me", and “HIT”!
And this is what makes Seventeen such a great group bc they don’t just let one person take the spotlight, instead they have this uniqueness to beautifully synergize with each other and bring the level of potential even higher, especially while having members like Hoshi and Dino, who’s hunger and passion is so apparent, that it certainly influences the other members too.
harder choreos started taking off after SHINee's lucifer!!!! seventeen era definitely cemented it, but Lucifer was the one where people were like "oh shit wait thats hard"!!! i love bringing this up bc shinee rlly do be setting the trends,,,
and i actually saw a lot of taemin in spider!! which just makes sense considering how big of a shinee stan hoshi is. im super proud of him, this is really up there
Seventeen has so many amazing vocalists and unique tones of voice, when you isolate each member you can be awed by every single one of them, but of course in a group and when the bar is set so high by Seungkwan and DK’s INSANE vocals it can be harder to remember they’re all incredible
"Hoshi had something to say and its that he's one sexy mfer" so true
Wtf this is a banger. I'm not a seventeen fan so good thing I watch your videos cuz I woulda missed out on this and that would have been a big mistake omg 🔥
Yes if you’re interested he also has a studio choom and mcountdown performance you can check out if you want :)
@@luvneojen yes up
Thanks! All seventeen songs are amazing especially b-side tracks n japanese tracks! Plus
theyre also so funny and part time of comedians. Try watch going seventeen series on TH-cam, even non kpopers, non seventeen fans and other idols like nct,cravity,p1harmony etc also watch it! You wont get bored. Each ep have different concept and gose 2020 alone gained more than 100MILLIONS vi3ws! The pdnims also have worked with many famous korean variety show such as running man, 2 days 1 night, new journey to the west etc. Try watch this ep first: th-cam.com/video/ub96Mzr7BBQ/w-d-xo.html
Hoshi invited the director 승림 and her team to complete this superb MV, and she obviously knows how to maximize his attraction after filming Hit, Fear, and Fallin' Flower.
omg the lisp (kinda??) !! i think this is the first reaction vid that mentioned it, i agree that it blended well with the song (looove how he utilized that) ALSO we’re all know that he’s a great performer so i was really happy (& proud) that he got to showcase his insane vocal range! really glad they did this mixtape as hoshi has always been eager to show more, be more. it is kinda hard to stand out in a group with 13 members so i hope that they all get to release one. seventeen fighting!!
he is a genius. yes hoshi is
This is what I'm seeing from co-carats:

@@coquetteluca i can't wait if jeonghan drops solo too
I agree so much on the song complementing Hoshi's voice. He has unique catchy voice. His voice is the most attractive in the entire singing part. And the choreography... man... I have to watch the video again and again to understand all those metaphors behind. There are so many details. That's why I love him most in seventeen.
this gave me hard jonghyun and taemin vibes, and I lived for it, it’s not a surprise from shinees biggest fanboy
We can see he is passionate about seventeen, this is 30 minutes long and seems like it could have gone forever.
I’m gonna say I feel you bro
18:26 "Do you hear the little quiver in his voice ?" (proceeds to replay twice)
21:07 same part "oohooooh !" (replays again)
Same ! That is my favorite note of the song. I don't usually have a favorite note in a song X)
i'm not even a minute long to this video but 30 minutes?????? wow sign me tf up
originally hoshi and woozi's positions in seventeen were switched but they ended up they way they are bc hoshi had such a passion for dance ! originally woozi was a lead dancer and hoshi was a lead vocal :)
I agree with you about Hoshi's voice. His vocals leads the whole song! And the choreagrapy is just outstanding
I'm so addicted to this song that i can't not listen to it atleast a hundred times a day, help!
HOSHI IS ART
Each members of SVT has their own colors and styles but whenever they perform no one over powers each other, they have a sense of oneness as a team and that's years of training and performing together 💕 that's not something that you can achieve in one sleeping
NOW
What I love about this song is that they literally let Hoshi do what he's best in doing and letting him to be more indulgent to his color as an artist and performer ✨the confidence he exudes can tell that he waited for this moment.
Spider is all Hoshi the attitude, the dance routine and the overall production, and I can only finger count artists who can pull up this concept naturally in the industry nowadays.
ALSOOOOOO Hoshi is a BIG SHAWOL🤩 so the influence is there 💕 *just saying 😂🤣😅
STAN QUALITY 💎
This is the QUALITY SEVENTEEN have 👌🏻✨
and if your still not stanning I don't even know what you are doing right now as a kpop fan 😅🤷🏻♀️
this song is literally so good and the choreography shocked me to the core
Hoshi's solo performance really reminds me of Taemin. Love them both!
"Hoshi is someone who pushes himself"
....Yes! Huhu! During L&R era, he was on a radio interview with just him and Woozi....and he said he and Woozi had 6 songs composed...and there's a song called Tiger... But then we don't hear anything about that...even up to now... :))
his Studio Choom was CRAZY, the choreography is literally art
17:32 omg yes you pointed it out. It is soo attractive
hoshi is the perfect embodiment of passion and versatility
You talked about this release opening grounds for more solos and I totally agree but I believe that this new round of solos started with Jun's Silent Boarding Gate.
Now we have Hoshi's Spider and soon we'll have The8's Side by Side. There's a theory that SVT will launch solo releases in unit order with Performance Team releasing songs that start with S, and the other groups releasing songs that start with V & T.
It's kinda of a weird theory but I love it. Seventeen has always been creative with their albums formats of subunits and age lines so I can see them doing it XD
Hoshi did so well I'm so proud of him!!!!!!
Also the choreography was INSANE hoshi really did THAT
Hoshi our god!
this is like the first thing i saw right after i opened this app, and boi did i accidentally let out a scream? yES. THANK U FOR THIS
i think the mv was directed by rigend and hoshi personally reached out to them since he has a specific concept and style in mind that only them can pull off
and for the choreography hoshi worked with team same/choi youngjoon
PD I'll recommend you check out the spider species Argiope Argentata since a lot of the design for the MV is inspired in it: Hoshi's styling, set design, COLORS, lighting, pretty much everything!
KING HOSHI
The MV is so beautiful. The sets don't look that expensive, but the filming, creativity and production definitely are high quality.
Hoshi's voice is one of a kind
he is and they are born for this UU
the director is the same who directes fallin flower + fear + hit
hoshi also participates in mv making
I'm OBSESSED with this!! His voice is insane and the performance is something only Hoshi could come up with!
somehow, watching Spider for a shit ton of times, there's this small Taemin vibes in it, even when he moves. It's just a bit, and still full of Hoshi. Idk
hoshi is one of the best artist
I totally agree with you about Hoshi's voice in this! Especially that weak whispery voice he does in the chorus! It really shocked me at first, I never thought that I would hear that from Hoshi. Even though you kind of hear that in Touch, his other solo, this one really "hit different". It's so shaky, yet somehow, there's so much stability in his voice. It's just simply amazing. That part is easily my favorite part of the song!
I WAS WAITING FOR THISSS😭 THANK YOU SO MUCH💛
the one who produced this are still woozi hoshi bumzu and someone from prismfilter
yeah, yeah. it's the usual guys... hehee...
Listening at PD's explanation I feel like I'm at an intense Kpop class 😍 I love it!
18:14 yes someone finally understands me, There's something about the way he sings the first sentence of the chorus that gives me literal chills.
All I can say is that he blew me away with this
I agree with you PD hoshi is definitely the member i would describe as driven.
And this is only the beginning!!! all members will release a song and so that will be the mixtape
Now The8's Side-by-side is going to be released on 13th April in both Chinese and Korean!
I’ve always said this, and I’ll say it again. Hoshi is a triple threat. He literally studies and perfect his craft to the ☕️... There are songs on SVT album that only the performance team sang and I always thought hoshi’s voice was a breath of fresh air because it’s so distinctive
This is literally one of the best releases of the year, period.
Hoshi actually is a lead vocal, and I think he's been slowly getting more prominent lines in svt songs too
You don’t want to miss the new OnlyOneOf mv libidO. Trust me.
YESSS PLSSS
Exactly. He should really catch up on OnlyOneOf content. Underrated kings they are.
!!!!!!!
YESS
It made my eyeballs sweat. Beautiful.
yea Hoshi is definitely "greedy" in the sense that he is super ambitious and passionate about his career - I'm really looking forward to what he comes out with in the future as a soloist
Glad to see your reaction!!! I fell in love with this MV, it is beautiful and I felt you would have like it, and Hoshi just... boy's been living in my mind rent free since then.
I saw that this video is 30 minutes long before i clicked it, and that made me squeal a lil because that means this will be a Good video no matter how you react to the mv

loved this review/reaction i totally agree w/ all your points, i always say that hoshi sings in the exact same way he talks
minghao promoted dreams come true and he's releasing a solo the 13th
jun released crow and silent boarding gate in feb
hoshi performed on M countdown today!
woozi + hoshi were the songwriters, i agree w the "woozi touch" about seventeen's sound, but i do feel like he can change it up especially since hoshi wanted his personal sound to come out
loooved that you kept mentioning taemin! the influence is clear and we all know how much hoshi loves shinee. it's awesome that he's being compared to a literal legend in kpop with his debut song
thanks for the vid PD!
Hoshi has my jaw on the floor with this one.
TBH, while watching it, I couldn't help but think about Taemin's Criminal. And it's incredible how Hoshi was able to pull it off!
Proud carat here!!
I literally was thinking if Woozi would get a solo eventually and then to find out he had a hand in making this song! Hoshi did an amazing job and the choreography is out of this world!
jun’s Silent Boarding Gate had an MV and Minghao is also coming out with a digital single album!!!! it feels like they’ll be dropping solos after solos this year fkdjsjjs caratland is scared and excited at the same time 🤣
Hoshi is so good at refining those tiny choreo movements that make his Choreo a cut above others. His music and delivery definitely is mirroring his attention to detail in his dance. I’m actually getting a Wonho sexy vibe without the skin. He turned up his volume in every way.
