Hi Thibault! Like that you now introduce the video and use “subtitles” to explain the rest of the trip. Keep up the good work. We really appreciate your videos.
Poland has grown and improved so much in this century. It's so underrated and such a hidden beauty. My favorite country, I love going there and it was already way too long since I was there the last time. ❤️
actually still old infrastructure 10 years ago, but modernized so much over the last 10 years, impressive work done by the Polish people, hard working and humble.
Świebodzin is actually the second stop in Poland after Rzepin 😊 And the stop in Frankfurt is a bit longer also because the Polish crew gets on board/leaves Thank you for the video, great content as always!
Note that the regular terminus is Warszawa Centralna. Trains were diverted to Gdańska station all last summer due to track works and the rebuilding of Warszawa Zachodnia that have just been completed.
Welcome to Poland again :D These restarant cars are actually rare, they are attached only to "highest rank" trains like international ones or the fastest ones, most of PKP IC trains have only drink and snack trolley that moves through the train only once per entire route.
I just love how PKP (and other similarly smart national carriers) decided to refurbish their old compartment wagons and to KEEP the compartments too - in Romania our idiotic CFR decided to turn all compartment wagons entering modernization processes into open space variants - sometimes transforming a 60-seat wagon into a 78-seat model - with absolutely no separation between seats. in their latest "achievement" they kept the old cast-iron brake shoes, which are incredibly loud, but tore apart all the compartments and installed bus-like, non-reclining seats on wagons now used for 14hrs and above trips, with some of these disasters making it to night trains too. for long distance travel you should be able to decide whether you want compartments (including the silence and the privacy they come with, the lateral corridor for stretching, etc.) or the open coaches... and the CFR wagons are the main reason why I bought myself a car :))
Well done !!!I enjoyed travelling with you from Berlin to Warsaw. Thanks for an interesting journey. 🇵🇱 Poland has a very well developed railway infrastructure and comfortable trains. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Warsaw, too.
Wonderful review - as always. Thank you for sharing! Was already drooling when I saw "Poland" and "dining car" in the title~ And I was not disappointed!
I've travelled this route before, a long time ago now (1975). The difference in quality for both the track and the rolling stock is amazing. Many of the locomotives then were steam driven: fascinating to me because in western Canada all I'd seen were diesel-electric engines.
Love Berlin hauptbahnhof always reminds me of the circular tour we did on the sbahn and being jealous of the long distance trains departing to places I want to visit and now I get to do it from the comfort of my armchair but honestly it’s not the same I’d rather be on the train, great post Thibault
If you ever find yourself in Madrid you should try the C-9 commuter line. It is a meter-gauge railway that goes up in the mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama with trains from the 70s! It is a short ride, so it is perfect if you are in Madrid a short time!
I remember seeing a doc7Austin video on PKP and still have images of his breakfast in dining car. So your video is now part of that imagery which makes PKP a desirable railway to experience. Surprised the coaches are limited to 160 and haven't been re-tuned to go 200. (something about suspension on bogies).
this is not problem with coaches, there are uic-z only with the railway line between oderbrucke and warsaw central is made on max 160km/h/120km/h or 60, I few time see 165km/h :)
in the USA, the 1970s Amfleet 1 cars made of heavy steel are rated to 200kmh and they just have disk and pad brakes. Very conventional. @@mielutuzburator7329
@simplyrailway 6:42 These are Class 143 Electric Lokomotives and because of the Colour are from Delta Rail. They painted them in the colour scheme of the Deutsche Reichsbahn Like Theo were delivered beginning in the Late 1980s. They use them to Carry freight Trains
for those who want the same ticket cheaper, avoid DB and book at PKP. there you usually get a first class ticket for the price of a 2nd class ticket at Deutsche Bahn.
I really appreciate your videos, very informative, I have made it to Europe, my first excursion will be Praha to Budapest, I am taking day trains so I can see the countryside.
This train is a Legend. In the 90ies it was the absolut smuggling train. People were partying all the ride, because they worked in western Europe and came home. Most of them abolutely euphoric. The kitchen is still best train in whole Europe. Nearly everything is fresh and it´s a real cook - sometimes you get in and want a Zurek and he say´s to you - Sorry. Not good enoug, yet. Come in 1h.

Did this back in October 2014 on the EuroNight 457 from Cologne to Warsaw, where the first Berlin to Warsaw service's carriages were added with a bump, and then sat in Berlin Hbf for an hour. Agree completely with the restaurant car - well worth the breakfast, and it wasn't too expensive. That train out of Cologne was amazing, with portions for Copenhagen, Warsaw, and Prague all splitting off through the night.
Idk why but usually the Window can be opened, even if it has AC onboard. It might be because you travelled in first class tho. I could open the windows there in second class compartments. Great Video btw those are really great trains👍
Nice video! From my own experience I know that it is also common to see 8 seats in the second class compartments. So not all of them have 6 like this one ;-)
A EuroCity link the likes of which we'd love to see everywhere! We'll have one this summer and from December 2024 between Paris and Brussels, but without the dining car... On this Berlin-Warsaw route, it's just a shame that the first class only has a compartment car, especially as there are six seats in each! A 2nd car with open space (2+1 configuration) would have added the finishing touch to make this train really perfect, even though it's already great (and what can I say about the restaurant car... it's so appealing!). Thanks for this video!
We did Warsaw-Berlin back in 2015, 2 class 2+2 seating, A/C kaput and very hot (mid-august). We're going back, this time Berlin-Warsaw, in a few weeks. Then we'll test Warsaw-Krakow (EIP), Krakow-Wroclaw (IC) and Wroclaw-Berlin (EC). Very excited about this :) Less about the price differences :s Krakow-Wroclaw cost us three (2 adults, 1 brat) only 33 euros, while Wroclaw-Berlin cost us 126 euros. Both second class and booked on the first available day.
I am very sad because I am leaving Poland in just a few days; I was living in Lublin since last September... One small thing to point out though; that was NOT an omelet... It was scrambled eggs with ham and cheese mixed in...I know they might SAY it is an omelet in their menu, but that was not an omelet...
Note: Talent trains were originally developped by Waggonfabrik Talbot prior to it being acquired by Bombardier. As part of sale of Bombardier Trasporttion to Alstom, Alstom had to sell the Talent train line and this happened in 2022 and it was sold to CAF. Therefore, the Talent is now a CAF product. During its liquidation of assets, none of the buyers of assets got naming rights for the Bombardier trademark which remains wth the small part of Bombardier that could not be sold off during liquidation (business jets). 3:42 Indeed: PKP (Polish State Railways) know perfectly well what to use for train traction. And that is why they very quickly gave up further orders from Siemens in favor of Polish manufacturers: NEWAG (Dragon and Griffin) and PESA (Gama locomotive family).
It would be better if they have people from the restaurant car come here like what the austrians DoCo on rails does or other railway operators since some first class Railway tickets have free meals for you which come from the restaurant car. Here's the Oddity about polish locomotives when running on German 15kv 16.7hz AC power the same pantograph for 3kv DC is being used to feed 15kv 16.7hz AC. It's the same phenomenon happening to Train a Grande Vitesse DC pantograph 1.95m strip Metalized carbon being used to feed German 15kv 16.7hz AC. Excellent trip overall
Pendolinos are not really great with the German system. If there will be a high speed rail line between Berlin and Warsaw, it will most likely be ICE (which I like better tbh). A Maglev line would be even more awesome. There are plans to build high speed rail lines all across Poland, as part of an airport project called CPK outside of Warsaw, but there hasn't really been done anything until now. Perhaps that will change.
Oops! A bit of an oversight on this video! You forgot to include your famous red arrow on your thumbnail which points out the bleeding obvious to potential viewers.
I have these coaches in h0 from roco and all of them have interior except for the second class coach, its empty on the inside, i think its just a factory error but i think its a little funny like how do they forget seats?

I dont understand how it is first class if 6 people are crammed in to that compartment. I would rather sit in the dining car or normal 2 x 2 seats in regular class. Makes no sense to me. Maybe someone could explain it to me. Good video as always.
Some people prefer the compartment : you're only 6 people inside, you can "control" it. When sitting in an open-space car, there are constantly people brushing past, moving stuff, sneezing, kids screaming... In your compartment, once everybody is seated, you close the door and you're isolated from all the movements. And if you need to get some movement, the corridor feels much better than moving between rows of seats and bumping into legs, bags or arms :) Of course, if your compartment companions are unbearable (noise, smell), the experience won't be very positive.
@ralphzechendorf1644 give me the ICE layout of 1 x 2 first class or 2 x 2 on other trains over this ( possibly) cramped compartment. You made some valid points but I still don't like the set up.
What i can say in defense (I think it wasnt mentioned in the video) is that these chairs are extendable to a very comfortable position to sleep in. I would never trade 6 ppl compartment for open space in a 2x2 setup, even with a table. I respect your view though.
pkp intercity makes a tender and gets bids and cancels because it's too expensive and we have modernized vintage trains look on en57 is like lenin still alive
I must be a little slow, I don't understand how that first class compartment is actually " first class". What if it's 6 people in there and you're in the middle?
Second class is more expensive, so it is usually more crowded. It is often that in the second class all 6 or 8 seats are occupied and in the first class only 1 or 2. That's why I usually buy tickets for the first class.
