I watched this movie with my brothers a couple months before the US invaded Afghanistan. A few months into the invasion, one of my aunts inquired at a family dinner party "where is Afghanistan?" Seven year old me, at the time, proudly pointed to Afghanistan on a map. My aunt, impressed asked how I knew. I explained, "its where Rambo killed Russians."
The tagline for the movie reads:
"Last time, he fought for his country. This time, he's fighting to save the life of a friend."
That may have been from different poster that I haven't seen, but the one I remember and confirmed on the internet with a similar theme and wording. "The first was for himself, the second for his country, this time is for his friend."
Rambo 3 is the biggest Rambo film as far as tanks, helicopters, and 100s of fighters on both sides. 4 and 5, while just as nasty violent, and maybe more visually violent, they are a little smaller and more "One on One" and personal moments- I love them all though. I still remember seeing First Blood in theaters with my Dad in 1982 and revisited Rambo in 1985, 1988, 2008 and 2019. Be careful with 5 though... two very different cuts floating around.

This one was my favourite in the 80s but after the 4th chapter it changed my mind, for me the best satisfying rambo movie ever, saw it 3 times in the theater. Awesome
Wait til you see the 4th movie, it's the most BRUTAL and GORY in the entire franchise
So yes Rambo 4 is literally Rambo evolved. It's just another level. The next two films you really get to see what this man is capable of doing to the enemy and it absolutely insane and as people have told you graphic. You get to see just how brutal Rambo can be.
It's a soulless cartoon with 0 suave
This one is my favorite out of the franchise. Not only did they go all out on the action, but I like that Rambo actually fought alongside his former Colonel this time. The two of them working together is the heart of the film for me. I hope you two watch the 4th and 5th ones as well.

I used to always "make fun" of my mom and compare her hairstyle to Rambo in the 3rd one 😂. Every mom in the 90s👍

When you get to Last Blood, I highly recommend you do the Long version (101 minutes versus 89). Both versions are available on Prime (U.S.). The long version was the theatrical release everywhere in the world except the U.S., Canada and the U.K. And the character development and backstory is much better.

This is the biggest Rambo films are going to get I'll give it that it's definitely the most sprawling and epic in scale and scope.
This was amazing in the theater when I was 10 years old.
I actually think this was the best Rambo. Just my personal opinion though. Mine favourites in order is 3,2,1. But 4 is the most cruel and bloody.
I saw a lot of action movies in the 80s and I think this was the first action movie with really spectacular and expensive scenes from that decade. Before this, I don't remember seeing another movie with big action scenes like this one. Then came Die Hard. the second in spectacularity and from then on action cinema was like that, great sequences and expensive, so I think that the one that inaugurated expensive spectacularity in action cinema was Rambo 3.
Always at ground zero in the chaos is Rambo -- gloriously, inhumanly impervious to fear and danger -- whose character is inhabited by Stallone with messianic intensity.

I have seen this movie 900 times Rambo 3 . Best film ever made in hollywood with fights, war, gurella war, Helicopter flying techniqe is real not animated, we see in today modern days movies found to be animated sometimes. In my life not seen any movie close to Rambo 2 and 3. Good to train commandos with gurella war techniques by showing these Rambo sequals.

Thank you for continuing this series review. It's been a while since I watched them but they never fail to disappoint. The Expendables series is fine, but the Rambo and Rocky series will always be my favourite Stallone movie series.
As much as I like this movie it’s also painful to watch because in the 80’s the mujahideen once stood for solely the defense of their homeland and their people. But tragically it was taken over from within by radical extremists who and transformed into the Taliban.
The movie is still dedicated to those brave souls who fought to defend their home.
Sylvester Stallone it is my favorite actor and RMBO it's my favorite move and your reaction it's my favorite we had a great time friends

I would say the Rotten tomatoes on this movie is so low because there where so many Amazing movies in the 1980's often multiple movies a year, today we get an amazing movie maybe every 3-4 years because everything is so corporate.

@CinePals - you are really missing out if you don't want Rambo (the 4th movie from 2008). It is a very good movie. Stallone is much older. Last Blood is good also, but Rambo (2008) is probably the best movie in the series.
As a former German soldier, I don't want to appear arrogant, but you have no chance against a Russian Hind helicopter. As a rule, you can't go and fight against a Spetsnas and win, that doesn't work
just one request to the editor... whenever a fight scene comes up... please lower steph's audio and bump up the movie's audio... gosh I literally have to take off my earpieces, everytime she screams... 😁

This was a few years after Russia had invaded Afghanistan - and that created the taliban and isis and osama bin laden : ( The next 2 are so RIDICULOUSLY violent and overly gory leaning towards body mutilation horror - this one ended it for me, in my mind John Rambo is still at the monastery leading a peaceful life : )
Hmm I'd argue religion created those groups. Even without invasion Afghanistan was always a religious fundamentalist country

Their determination against massive enslaving forces, Their look in the eye attitude against the Russian pricks , the American stooges , all showed the world that it is impossible to conquer Afghanistan.. The ppl were,are and always will be like their land "UNCONQUERABLE" !

That wasn't Omar Sharif, its an actor called Spiros Focas.
Interesting reactions, being a Sly fan and Rocky being the greatest franchise of all times! Just as a back story to being a Sly fan, without doubt 1 is the best, but I get it, everyone to their own, but for context, even as a kid when first blood came out it was one of the first of its type, full action but with a relatable story and with Vietnam still raw in people psyche around the world, to me this movie has it all, ok no love interest but hey, its true to its core the music, was score was great, the characters yada yadda, yes maybe the cinematography is not as good as later movies, I could care less I can watch a movie from the 1930s like Tarzan the Ape Man and I don't care about that. I don't need CGI graphics or AI levels to make something great for me. We were lucky to experience things in this time, enough technology but not too much, it keeps it more real, makes it all the more authentic!
Its true to its time, the sequels they are what they are an action movie again with topics that were close to the events of the time, R2 was exploring the POWs many never found or returned, R3 was not long after Russia's Vietnam in Afghanistan, but for me First Blood will always be the best.

I saw the movies backwards lol. The 3rd one first. But the 1st is definitely my favorite when it comes to the story and the 2nd is definitely my favorite when it comes to action. But I love them all. The 4th one actually I might even like better than this one. Critics definitely shit on this one more than they should have unfortunately... Being my first Rambo movie is also what makes it special to me of course. Look forward to what you think of the 4th one. I haven't seen the 5th one yet, so if anyone thinks it's worth watching, lmk.

The second movie for sure had a villain other than the brutal bad guys in the jungle, Murdoch. Come on. Analysis true for this movie for sure though.
