You are correct about the mk1 mondeo, they left the factory with the front subframe misaligned causing the cars to pull to the left. As featured on BBC Watchdog
I have a Mk3 ST220 and had all the rear suspension off to sandblast and powder coat which was done so badly by the company 💩💩 had to all come off again and be taken back to bare metal then I repainted it. I'm glad I saw someone comment in one of the Mondeo ST groups and then watched this because it's all going back on soon and the last time I never aligned it BUT luckily it didn't go anywhere so no damage done! Once front and rear is replaced its getting a Hunter alignment done to make sure. If you have any tips for the ST220 I'd appreciate it unless its basically the same principle here?? Thanks Alan 👍🏻🍻
when I was a kid, we had a mondeo mk1, and my dad once told me it never drove in a straight line and hae had it allinged several times ... the front axel thing explains a lot.
i have not ever used my alignment tool on a focus but i would assume it is the same as it fits the whole mondeo range...there is always the broom handle trick..its cheaper
I used to work for a van company that sold a Brand new transit customer refused it because of wheel gap, 2.5 inch gap from tyre to back of wing and 1.5" the other side which actually chaffed when bigger load rated wheels were fitted. Went to fords with standard wheels on of course, they said its within tolerance! I just slackened the subframe ( your right like 200nm tight ) and barred it symmetrical and had it tracked. Do the customs have these holes?
hi, thanks for your comment, we have four 2017 transit vans which have been converted into taxis by cab direct, i have not looked at the subframes yet but i will do now and get back to you soon, thanks, alan.
HI Alan, appreciate your videos. You mention at the end of this that you haven't had a need to remove the rear subframe. I have been watching your Mk4 Rear Trailing Arm Bush Replacement video as I am about to do the process on my Smax which I believe shares the same chassis. As part of the steps there you remove the rear subframe I believe. I can see there are still parts of the suspension connected to the hub etc, but was wondering if you would feel the need to have the alignment tool for when you reattach those bolts for the subframe? Thanks in advance
Does the same alignment pin kit work on the Mondeo MK5 / CD4 Fusion? The USA Ford service manual is useless when it comes to addressing sub-frame alignment.
Alan, have you had much Trouble with steering racks on MK4 Mondeo's ? My pump is whining. I am guessing that the filter is blocked in power steering fluid bottle not had a chance to look .
Great video Alan, as always. My s max steering went a tad bit stiff and wont return to centre after the clutch replacement (also have to constantly keep correcting steering on the road). What do you think is wrong with it? thanks.
I have the same probleme, after I have taken out the support and the 21mm bolts out, in order to paint them. Put all back, tracking, all ok, but the car ford pull right, and I do feel some restince, and have to correct all the time.
Hi Alan, 6k miles after the dmf replacement I get a strange vibration above 80 km/h. Getting under the car I noticed that the subframe smaller 4 bolts toward the A pillar were not tightened. Even after tightening them the vibratin persists. Can this be the reason for the vibration?
Check all the suspension bolts and transmission shafts but i am almost sure that balancing the wheels will sort out the problem, some times the balacing weights fall of.
OMG. The garage next door to me advised marking where the old one sat and put the replacement in upto those marks. I cannot believe that ...A .. all subframes came out the same jig and ...B.... THEY THINK ITS OK TO do it like that. Rgds Don.
Since the Volvos S80II and V70III have such similar subframes and chassis I guess they too need an alignment if one has been messin around with the subframes ey?
Hi Alan yes I remember the old minis been nearly 60 yrs old worked on many off them and many other Leyland motors, would you be able to measure the alignment pins as I have a clutch to do on a fiesta to do soon, and they have the same pins, I have tried to get hold of some with no success, looks like they are no longer available aftermarket, if you could let me know the sizes when you have the time, I can get some turned. Also I enjoy your videos I like your scene of humour. Thanks
@@alan4x Love these English videos: they give me different perspectives and component names; looking for a way to substitute for the tapered ones in a 2008 Ford Focus---closest I have gotten so far is a tapered pin for a hay wagon---any thoughts? Thnxs in advance for your consideration
This problem has developed in my mk4 focus. Castor is off. Tracking impossible. Dealer … useless as 🧀 and they’re the ones who replaced the auto box too. 🤦🏼♂️
thank you Alan just took my sub frame off you gave me the tool I needed for the job brill
Glad it helped

You have had a subframe for your character alone :) bravo

Hello Alan. Thanks for the alignment tool video. Would you happen to know if that is the same tool Ford use on the FOCUS? Best regards Don.

Please do more videos I love watching them I've watched all now 😂😂

Dear Alan, do you by any chance have the wheel alignment specification for MK4?
i always set the front wheel tracking to parallel ..0 degrees and all taxi tyres wear even
He knows what he is talking about, trust.

Nice one Alan.
Could somebody provide me the dimensions for this tool please? thinking i might turn onr down at work rather than buy one
Could the subframe alignment affect ESP codes for lateral/jaw sensor plausibility?

@@organiccold thanks, the car is at a mechanic for a week now, they suspect the tires. Today they will let me know.
Hello, what diameter do the pins have ?
20mm and 22mm

hi, no problem, i will get the dimensions and let you know tomorrow evening
Hi Alan Thanks Dave

Hello.
The diameter of the pins are 18mm and the length is 150mm. Hope this helps.
Hi Alan thanks for the information I shall have a word with a couple off lads who work in engineering.
Regards Dave

Ok does anyone know what diameter is that tool ?
Hello, I know it's an old one but maybe you know torque specs for tthese bolts on the front subframe? Thanks
Stage 1: 111 lbf ft (150Nm), and then Stage 2: Angle-tighten a further 90º
Mondeo mk3: 142Nm in four bolts
10 Nm for bolts M10
what diameter have this tool?
With so many dodgy backyard mechanics doing their own repairs he makes a good point- Get your subframes aligned !
Thanks
Welcome
I give the bolts about 6 ugga duggas from a high torque Dewalt and they fly out
Thx
