I miss E3, not because it was always a good show, but because it put pressure on studios to have _something_ to show at a guaranteed time each year. Now, we have to rely on Xbox Showcases, Sony State of Plays, and Nintendo Directs for news (if they don't just shadowdrop something with a tweet), which feel far more spaced out and have no guaranteed schedule throughout the year.

E3 really started going downhill after everyone started moving to digital events. It might just be my inner Nintendo fan, but to me, E3 2016 (where the entire Nintendo show floor was Breath of the Wild themed) was the last hurrah of the classic E3 people remember so fondly.

I can't explain the feeling of seeing E3 for years in magazines etc growing up and then finally being able to not only attend but to be now somebody working in gaming. It was such a feeling of accomplishment. Sad to see E3 go but it's for the best with how it had been going.

I remember hearing E3 2023 was cancelled because, at least according to IGN, the plans were very uninteresting to the heads of Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Nintendo to warrant a giant event. Is this it? After almost three decades, E3 - the video gaming news event everyone gets excited for - is dead entirely? 😢
