“Étude-tableau in G minor casts a gloom, bringing to one’s mind Pushkin’s lines about autumn:
‘O drear and cheerless time, you charm the eye and tender.
Contentment to the heart. How wondrous to behold
Your dying beauty is, the lush and sumptuous splendour
Of nature’s farewell bloom, the forests clad in gold...’
The drooping melodies seem to be sad remembrances of the past and even the sudden gusts of cold wind (in the middle of the piece) can’t dispel the mood of sweet sadness.”

This interpretation is the closest to how I feel it.
I have not found a better one either. His is simply sublime.
I'll try to listen to Idil Biret too then.
Pletnev on Rachmaninovs Grand is not bad either. And his Moscow 1987 version is even better. And Ashkenazy is great as well.

This artist obviously exhibits phenomenal technical keyboard mastery, but in my hearing it is only a medium for a very well thought out interpretation, and almost a musical stream of consciousness creativity. Fascinating artist, especially Rach sonatas , etudes , and concerti!

Horowitz in Moscow 1985 his performance of Scriabin etude in c # minor is the best russian etude ever if you should ask me. You have to listen to it.
Why he doesnt play d minor etude op 33?
Because he doesn't want to. Think he has a CD of all them recorded
