Holy shit, you murdered that history synopsis. Thankfully you fixed it in post. Regardless, I'm super glad you're sharing your story about this bass and how you got it, and even more that you're breathing new life into it.
I got my MIM Fender Squier Series Jazz Bass (essentially the same line as your P bass) new in 1995, and it's still the best sounding, best playing bass I've had in my hands. I upgraded the nut to bone, bridge to a hipshot Kickass, and the pots to CTS, but otherwise it's still stock.
The first decade of MIMs fly under the radar, but that red (it's "Torino", btw) Precision will serve you well for many, many years. Congrats on a genuine steal. As I write this is see there's bass just like yours listing for $600 on Reverb.

Great vid and better moustache… I had a similar thing happen with to the best of my knowledge, a more recent model of this bass. It was a candy apple red bass that was next to unplayable. The guy who previously owned it had reworked the volume pot to do nothing and the tone pot to be the volume control. He had also changed out the pickup for an unknown third party stock which is the best and lowest p bass pickup I’ve ever heard. I got it for 100$ CAD and rewired the thing to work right. Changed every screw, changed the pickguard which is a sanded-to-fit fender, changed the bridge, pots, tuners and added a hipshot drop tuner. Added flats and hydrated the neck and next thing you know, you have one of the most unique and awesome basses ever. I use it for everything and it sounds amazing…

Haha cheers on the mustache compliment lol. Sick pbass build as well, sounds killer! Plan to be doing a lot of work to this thing, already replaced the screws and I learned recently that the pickup covers are epoxied in so it looks like I'm in the market for new pickups as well coming soon.

This was way cool :) I was about to start pimping out a Squire strat to get myself to learn some guitar and branch out from bass

Hell yea! I was a guitar player for a while, you'll find that they transfer over decently.

Dude what a coincidence I was born in 1968!! 😭😭🤣🤣 great story!!
Actually, I’ve been a drummer for since the age of 15 and played with some ex members of atomic opera Check them out first album only though.
I picked up the guitar about five years ago and was looking at bass. I ended up buying the Ibanez starter kit in the guitar hasn’t been that bad But upgraded on the amp..Not sure how I ended up on your video but it was very entertaining. At least now I know what MIM stands for because I had no idea. 🤦🏽‍♂️ makes sense now😂 Good luck with School.
