- Is this $220 Squier Bass from Fender worth it?? Let's find out in this FULL Review from the Squier Sonic Series in 2023!
Go ahead and grab one of these basses yourself here: www.fender.com...
The signal chain is plugged direct from an Ampeg RB112 onto a Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 in Logic Pro X. Using no plug-ins and a teeny bit of compression in playthroughs.
For strings I used on this demo: DR Pure Blues 45-105 Strings & GHS Precision Flatwounds 45-95 Strings

This bass sounds really great for the price, Squier has been killing it lately. I suppose you'll have to factor in the cost of lightweight tuners to cure the neck dive, and a pickup change (although I quite liked the aggressive tone of the ceramic) which would put this bass close to used Classic Vibe territory. I think it's worth it if you really like the color, plan to mod it, or just really want an 8lb P bass after a tuner swap.
Definitely worth it for the color alone! Thank you for this well said comment
@@Mat_Gomez23 the string stops vibrating at the nut. Sustain means the string is still vibrating. Can you explain to me how wrapping the non-vibrating portion of the string around a heavier post helps it to vibrate more?
@@sonojon0That color is sharp, I might have bought that if it had a maple board but oh well
@@jasondorsey7110 Yeah. I had bought a maple board separately for this bass alone which was the motivation behind getting the Lime Green Bass 🥰🤙🏾
@@sonojon0 Awesome, I look forward to seeing part 2
For that price it's great. Good modding platform and gives Harley Benton some competition. These are £160 here in the UK but I want that limited edition green. Waiting for new stock.
Right on! This bass definitely gives Harley Benton competition and would be a great comparison of the two in terms of price and quality 👏🏾
Bought mine last weekend and it arrived today. The edge of the body has some finish damage that doesn’t affect the sound. If I can’t send it back for repair or replacement, I’m going to try to find somewhere local where I can get the finish repaired.
I have several high end basses. But, I've always wanted a Precision in seafoam green. My wife got me one of these for my birthday, and i love it! I would have no problems with paying it out!
I love the color, and it definitely seems like a good deal for the price. Yes, you'll probably spend the same amount on a pickup upgrade, but then you still have a great looking and sounding bass for pretty cheap. (It's really nice that this comes with a satin finish on the back of the neck… I wouldn't have expected that.)
Damn, that was some pretty solid camera work man. Solid looking bass too 👀
I'm the type that can't leave well enough alone so it's a great option for me because by the time I'm done the only original part left on it would be the green body
Great review. Very nice looking bass. Can't wait to hear how it sounds with some mods.
You and me both! Coming soon 🤙🏾
Fine review! I have the same model & color. Purchased directly from Fender when they had them for $199. I pretty much have the same response. The pickup is hot & has no finesse. Maximum P Bass Grunt! I've gigged mine about 6 times. Classic Oldie Rock. Ballsy but not Metal. The bass sounded OK & was capable of turning the air into cream cheese. Used much less live amp volume. Playability & set up were fine out of the box. Changed the strings to Thomastik flats. Almost like an old school P hard driving an Ampeg B15 amp. I want to swap the pickup out for a DiMarzio Model P. Yes! It's worth swapping the pickup out. This is a solid gigging workingman's P on a budget & a potential solid workhorse. Hard Rock,Metal & Punk players should find it useable as is. Great detailed honest review.🎉
Yes. I used to own one; for the price it’s awesome.
1k subs! Lets go!
On the road to 10K!!
It's not only worth it but im getting one, I don't play out but for at home use its a great bass and a great modding platform 👍🏆.
Its on sale for 179...im definitely considering it
Nice sounding bass and nice playing. Is the tuner and bridge the same as the affinity series?
I’m pretty sure they are
@@sonojon0 Thanks a lot. I bought one because of this video. Still waiting for the shipping tho.
Great review 👍🏻
Thanks! Glad you dig it 🤙🏾
Flats with some Pure Vintage 62's would sound killer. That colour though 🤤
Well I bought one. I actually love the tone of the stock ceramic pickups! And playability is awesome. So smooth, great setup and zero fret buzz.
Downside is the neck dive. It's awful. I might put a hi mass bridge on. Or look at different tuners. Worst case, I'll swap out the neck.
Any suggestions?
I heard that the neck of Sonic series breaks / twist / warps easily. I don't know if it's true or not.
Never experienced any of that or ever heard of that happening to others that I know have bought these instruments. To say it’s true is a big stretch, these necks are solid
I bought 1 loved the green, had to have it. Seymour Duncan pick ups,all it needed
Great! Sounds like the one Fender has on there recent Limited Edition Player Series
I want one, I hope for an arctic white one. I have a black pickguard and a set of GFS P Bass pickups to do an easy swap
They'll probably release an Olympic White version sooner or later like my Jazz V.
$175 on Fenders site today!
@@GooeyGooGoo-c6w Let’s gooo!!!!
would you say this is a good option for a first bass? i don’t know too much about about the pickups and i don’t wanna spend another few hundred dollars
@@Voltic27 This bass is honestly the best option for a first! The stock pickup does the job. I just happen to be a picky person when it comes to tone but overall the bass pickup stock can get you started and then some without forking over too much additional $$$
@@sonojon0 thanks! would you happen to have a video about setting it all up out of the box? i’ve seen other videos that say it needs a lil bit of work
Love the Color
Why do you play cheap basses? I have a weird thing about playing something really nice because......I don't know...... more character...... all I did was upgrade the pick ups 👍
I got mine coming in......worse comes to worse I'll get some Geezer EMG's
That’s the way to do it! *Teaser* I actually ordered a set of Geezers for this bass as well 🤙🏾
For that price, it definitely doesn't sound that bad to me.
Me wants this. To bad it's sold out. Let me know if decide to sell it :D
That bass sounds excellent.
Thank you!
Just got one! For $169 :)
@@AllAboutBasses Nice! Such a great deal. Might just pick one up again honestly and leave it stock this time
Please explain what's wrong with ceramic pickup?
Can be very loud in terms of output, if you tend to play with a heavy hand you might cause the output to clip which can be detrimental in recording. I’d recommend ceramic for people that play with a lighter touch. Nothing wrong with ceramic pickups, they’re just not for my playing style
@@sonojon0 thank u for your explanation
is the sonics body thinner than mim or American made
