- Drumming in my apartment with Vic Firth Drum Mutes. These are non-slip drum and cymbal mutes that are great for practicing quiet or quieter drumming in an apartment. I unbox, use, and compare the loudness or sound of drums and cymbals with and without mute pads.

😂 yeah
went to a floor covering shop by my neighborhood and took home piles of rug samples
Wow what a great idea!!!! That’s awesome I’m going to have to do that as well 🤘
Just tried this and they told me get the fuck out
@@Prodbykidjakehahahaha
You misspelled *stole* 😅
It's nice to have an electric kit for practice and an acoustic kit for live shows. It's an extra expense but worth it! Plus the e kit has alot of cool sound effects.
I 100% agree with you! But the expense of a good electric kit is very high. That’s is why I got the pads. Just trying to show people there are other ways. 🤘
Hihats need something between them to stop the contact and take off the snares otherwise there is nothing stopping them from rattling on the reso head of the snare
Yeah I was thinking about putting a rag in between the hihats to take that crunch away. You’re right I should have turned the snares off and I’ll fo that next time! But luckily in person it did not sounds as loud as it does on the video.
Nice video man!!
Thank you 🤘 I appreciate it 🥁
i have a roland vad503 kit with real cymbals and it sounds great.. tempted to sell for acoustic with mutes but not sure if that s just a downgrade
A Roland VAD503 is solid!! I would keep it for the practice and save for an acoustic. Unless you need one to gig lol
I have a Roland electric kit set up in my home and I gig every weekend with a Pearl acoustic kit. I'd rather practice on my acoustic kit with my RTOM Black Holes than touch the electric kit. Even though I just wanna leave them in their cases until the next gig. Practicing on an electric kit just isn't the same.
Agreed!!
What do you think of the black hole heads?
What annoys the neighbors a lot is the vibration created by hitting the bass drum.
Yes, I agree. With these pads it takes a lot of the vibrations out. I am also using a soft bass pedal mallet.
@@eric_percussion That's a brilliant way to solve the vibration problem! I have a Roland TD1K in my room as a practice kit and I have to custom build a riser with shock absorbing spring pad underneath to eliminate the vibration that made my neighbor downstairs complained a lot.🤣
That sounds like a really dope setup for your kit!! Yeah Roland’s and notorious for having thumper bass drum pads. A soft mallet might help but your setup seams legit 👌
Where can i get the specific mute pads you used? They sound really good
I got them at Sam Ash. Guitar Center should have them as well. They are also on the VicFirth website. Just check the sizes 🤘
@eric_percussion thank you so much:)
I’ll just get the blackhole drum pads
I really want to try those!!! 🤘
Pearl vision kit?
Yes it is!!!!
Still too loud though. Anything I can practice on that so quiet I wouldn't wake up somebody in the same room?
Yeah it is definitely not the quietest way to practice. DW has a practice pad in the shape of a drum set. That would be the best!! I’m going to get one soon 🤘🥁🤘
Soul-tone got another one. Why must the good die young?!?!?
🤣🤣🤣 I feel ya! The cymbals were a good deal but there’s definitely better options 🤘🤘
you should play the FNAF 1 song with the drum mutes
That would be dope to play! Thanks for the idea 🤘
The part at the end sounded like the FNAF 1 song (atleast the rap meme version)
The living tombstone FNAF 1 song
Thanks 🥁 I will definitely look into it once I can mic my kit up 🎤
Sound is better with mutes
Yeah I agree. The heads I had on my drums in this video were not the right fit for these drums. I recently put some emperors on them and they sound a lot better.
Only electric drums make sense where noise will disturb others.
Buy a Roland kit and some good headphones.
You’re right a Roland kit with mesh heads would be the best option. But those kits stark at $1,700 💰! These drum mutes were $70, so they are a good alternative for someone on a budget. It sounds louder in the video because of my microphone and there’s a few things I could do that would make them more quiet. Hopefully I can get a Roland kit soon and compare the sounds 🤘
It still seems loud. Is there a way to practice with no one hearing you?
If I replaced all my heads with mesh drumheads. That would help a lot. And there quiet tone cymbals.
What is the référence ?
What do you mean?
Does it work?????? Lol
Yes, it gets the job done! 🤘
How tight you have your cymbals locked down is anxiety inducing. When a cymbal can’t resonate the energy throughout due to all that pressure they will inevitably crack. Loosen the wing nuts and let them move. The wing nut is there to stop it falling off the stand, that’s it. Good luck on your quest for quieter drums
Thanks. The stands are brand new and I’m not hitting my cymbals hard. You can see the cymbals move when I hit them.
At that point just sell the dam thing and get a electronic kit 😂
You are missing the point of the video. Electric drum sets cost a lot of money. This is a cost-effective way if you have an acoustic kit and want to practice. 🤘🥁🤘
Still loud
In person it’s more quiet. But it could definitely be quieter.
Hey! Keep the F’n noise down!
😂 I’m trying 😂
Still noisy
My microphone picked up a lot of sound. In person there was a big difference. Except the hi-hat, that needed something in the middle to make it more quiet.
Eviction material.
😂 that’s why I got the Drum Mutes
@@eric_percussion Had those over 30 years ago.
It's the BASS that gets you evicted.
NYC drummer for almost 40 years. I gave up on any in apartment playing decades ago bc the bass f**ks you.
I saw that there’s a floor mat that can absorb sound. It’s like 4 inches thick. I really want to get one! It would help with the bass sound. Some apartments have thinner walls than others so it all really depends on the place you live in.
@@eric_percussion Pre war, you might be able to make it work. Or a German designed building (eg. parts of Queens), since they are known for thicker walls.
Good luck!
I live in Los Angeles so some places here have thicker walls. But I have lived in places where the walls were super thin. Also my bass drum is only 18” so that helps a little.
Thanks!! 🤘
I'll just stick with electric
Yeah electric kits are great!! I want to save up for a Roland TD-17. The pads were cheaper so I got them for the time being so I could practice for some bands I want to try out for 🤘
Tune your drums
I am switching out the heads soon so they will sound better soon!
