Prisons boss warns wardens against torturing inmates

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Johnson Byabashaija, has warned prison wardens of being held personally liable if they are found guilty of torturing inmates. He issued the warning while inspecting prison facilities in western Uganda. Byabashaija’s comments come a month after the police came under sharp criticism for torturing suspects at the Nalufenya detention facility in Jinja district.
