  • If you have a stain on your ceiling you need to watch this video. No special Tools required. This works on a ceiling with texture or without texture. It just takes a minute to do. You will wonder why you didn't do it sooner. In this video, I show you how I got a stain out of a ceiling in one of my vacation rentals. I actually got a bad review from a guest because of this stain, so I decided it was time to fix the problem and get rid of the stain.

    I tried an easier solution but what you showed here of course is great too and does indeed work. I simply purchased a spray bottle of "Kaboom Mold and Mildew w/bleach" and because it is a foam, it just clings to the surface while drying. No mess. I sprayed the foam onto the ceiling and it stayed there while successfully attacking the ugly color spots. One application fixed most of my spots. Two applications knocks it all out. Just make sure that you have good ventilation in the room so that the Bleach doesn't knock you out!

    Yes the spray bottle technique doesn’t do well because it lightens the area around the spot . Once I figured the out I got a small model car paint brush but could not get enough on the there to make me happy. I then found the best solution for me was simply a folded bounty paper towel work absolutely fabulous and after use that only on the spot I could actually see the brown stuff come off . Same with me it look so good after 3 times I was scared of doing a 4th, if you walked in the house now I bet you a $100 bucks you could not find where it was I can see them because I know but anyone else wouldn’t notice !!!!😊

    Hurricane Matthew with 82 mph wind gusts (clocked 0.7 miles down river from my house) drove rain through a roof vent, which resulted in a 30" x 40" dark oval stain on my vanity popcorn ceiling. I applied undiluted 3% hydrogen peroxide four times to this stain to remove it. The advantages of 3% peroxide over bleach are no odor, no worries about drips harming carpets and no mixing. The disadvantage is that more applications may be required as it is weaker than bleach, although 12% and 34% peroxide solutions are available retail which would require dilution before application. A standard spray bottle works just fine.

    Do you think that many brown spots is a sign of poor ventilation in the attic?
    In my opinion, this is something you do after you solved the root issue, e.g leak or poor ventilation. Otherwise you’re just masking a bigger problem that could lead to mold or mildew, which could be a lot worse than a 3 star review.

    The pandemic has nothing to do with this. I mean if someone rents out a property for a vacation or anything really, they expect to get their money's worth. My question is in your advertisement for your property did you show photos of the stain ? My bet would be you didn't. So to get to a rental unit and see that I can understand why people leave a bad review. Good that you were able to fix the issue, but you shouldn't blame the people for their reaction to something so unsightly. At the end of the day you are in the hospitality business so you should respect your customers opinions.

    • @TheRetirementality
      @TheRetirementality  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You clearly don't own vacation rentals. If one guest causes a problem, like a ceiling stain, because they forgot to put the shower curtain inside the tub when they took a shower and you can't get to the property to address the issue you don't send a photographer to go to the property to alert future guests that there is a stain on the ceiling which will in no way affect their stay. And there has been a distinct shift in peoples' expectation since covid. I own 7 rental properties and I'm in many rental property groups and have lots of friends who also own rentals, that would agree with my statement. But, I'm sure you have reasons for your thinking too. Thanks for chiming in.

    What I do is use a cheap nylon paint brush and straight up bleach, not water it down. Why make the ceiling wet with water again? Bleach dries fast. The paint brush gets the bleach into the ceiling like if it was being painted. No spraying needed. Just a cup with some bleach and a soft nylon paint brush. The other day I forgot that the corner molding was gone in a bathroom we are redoing and took a long shower for a sore back. I splash around and fill up the tub and twist around like a fish. When I went downstairs it looked like open surgery happened on the ceiling. I waited until dry and then used the straight up bleach and paint brush and one "coat" turned the ceiling back white. Glad that eff up is over. I need to finish the job. Also straight bleach kills weeds and grasses and ruins clothes there's several uses for the great stuff. I learned the hard way that you don't squirt bleach on shttt in the sun. Bleach heats up. I was ready for my house to spontaneously combust after I realized how hot it got.

    • @TheRetirementality
      @TheRetirementality  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha, sounds like you have a real love/hate relationship with bleach. Just kidding, but thanks for the tips. I'm sure this problem will come up again in one of my houses and I'll try your method next time.

      @@TheRetirementality I think the brush approach works best for people like me who don't prep for messes. Just make them. I use bleach and water for everything cleaning. I get a spray bottle and bleach and water to clean the gutters. Of course I get just as white as the gutters when done. I finally ordered professional spray bottles if there are such a thing. Hopefully will get a nice jet spray to keep the bleach away from me and on target. Going to spray down my gravel driveway this week to get rid of the weeds
