Use Magic Wand outside of the lineart instead of Lasso Tool, then expand selection by x amount of pixels to bite into the lines a bit, then invert selection and fill with colour on a different layer.
@@tanyd6627 Of course you can do that too but magic wand is faster for getting huge selections down quickly while you can still use lasso tool for the details...

Hello Marc , I just want to thank you by saying the following: I have been doing some art as a hobby recently, and I started from nothing (literally could barely draw stickmen figures) , then I started searching for digital art (and art in general) tutorials , especially for character design , and out of all the tutorials I have seen and all other "clickbaiting" youtubers, Your tutorials are the true legit ones, you REALLY give it your all in each video you do, every single word you speak is helpful and you don't waste a single second of getting out of context (a lot of others do that to buy time), and thanks to YOUR tutorials, I was able to do some digital drawings, and I have improved WAY MORE (especially with shading, and lighting) Thank you Marc , you are BETTER THAN THEM ALL
I have recently discovered Marc's videos and how useful they are information wise. I will be making use of the information soon, I have been doing digital artwork for years as a hobby, still not good enough for commission work, sadly. Have always wondered how professional artists are able to make their work look vastly different from what I was able to make. Good luck with ur artwork.
Going to apply myself and get back to my characters that were in huge need of coloring because I have very poor experience painting. Your technique helped me a lot to get unstuck from my flat colors. Thank you a lot Marc-san
I've tried so many methods by now. I observed many speedrawings and tested some other techniques from other artists but I just can't follow with "messy" styles with hundreds of layers. It's like... Too many of them stress me a lot. Your technique, Marc, it's the one that has resonated the best with me. I can't find a better method than this; nothing satisfies me more with the results and the clean 4-5 total layers. Relief! Thank you!
I've been casually drawing for the majority of my life, but noticed I've been stagnating for a few years now. I decided I want to improve so I started to search for tutorials on color theory and shading (what I struggle with most). Your videos have changed my perspective on my own process ENTIRELY. I am so excited to sit down with my tablet and practice these new methods. Thank you for sharing these tutorials.
It just works. The inner glow fx you use in other color tutorials also adds so much to the painting. Although just adding color in the shading can also produce a fairly similar effect.
I was literally full of rage when i was coloring two days ago, it looked wrong everytime i tried to spice it up somehow. And yesterday notification came, that you made this video. Guess, thats whats called great timing. Anyway, today i had finally time to draw, so reset the coloring and now the piece looks 200% better than it originally did. Saved my life, it didnt take me a long time, my dogs healthy and i can sleep peacefully tonight. Thank you
I think your tutorial about color is really clear for beginners, because the steps are not "random", and can be followed easily. (Also does not seem to skip through several steps/ have some oversimplified steps that can make people stuck.. IYKWIM) In other people's tutorials they just add layers over and over, overpaint them over and over with their already high experience and skill until the painting looks like it matches their already huge visual library. So I can't really call it a tutorial. I just hope all of your other tutorials can be similar to this one.
You inspire me so much. Thank you again for another marvellous tutorial. It did take me 6hrs to do lineart and flats+ shading but I can really see how realistic my skin turned out. I hope I can improve within a month and next try to do the hard light layers and extra effects. One step at a time for me. Thank you again Marc Brunet!

Thank you for this. I just finished what I feel like is the technically best drawing so far from my side, thanks to this tut. Your videos are so well done! I recently found your channel and I have learned so much since I started. I am new to the digital platform as I have done more traditional drawings and paintings in the past. Learning a new media is something that's been a challenge but very much worth the effort. You explain everything so well and I absolutely love your art. You are a great teacher and I look forward to more of your videos!
so happy u zoomed in on your line work, personally I am afraid my line work is not good enough. seeing you line work gives me hope. I hope your Discord comes soon. :3

I really really love this video and it's helped me with a lot of the processes I was confused with but , could u make a video abt the appropriate brushes to use for shading and coloring? :)
Hey Marc! your classes are really helpful! and this is definitely not an exception!! I was wondering if you're ever going to do a tutorial on incorporating characters into your backgrounds well? You've done a lot of videos on character drawing, and some videos on backgrounds, but i don't recall ever seeing one on how to incorporate the 2 together. Thank you for the video and have a great week teacher!!
I've been really struggling with finding a good process for coloring, just fumbling around and trying to come up with my own messy process. I will definitely try this process.
For Clip Studio users: Once you've blocked in your character like in the video, click the Lock Transparent Pixel setting. Should be on the right panel above your layer information.
I know I draw more anime but since not near pro level of drawing anatomy yet, I won't try and do too much at once. The video was helpful since I am someone who draws on paper (I'm trying to mix it up and do more digital art) and doesn't do much colouring, mainly because I struggle with it the most.
Happy Saturday and by that I mean CLASS IS IN SESSION. New video on how to color fresh out the oven, hope it's delicious

Use Magic Wand outside of the lineart instead of Lasso Tool, then expand selection by x amount of pixels to bite into the lines a bit, then invert selection and fill with colour on a different layer.
This was very useful so I don’t have those parts where the lines and flats don’t overlap. Thank you!
i think he use the lasso because the draw is directly hand made and have some things the magic wand cannot take.
@@tanyd6627 Of course you can do that too but magic wand is faster for getting huge selections down quickly while you can still use lasso tool for the details...
