The idea of a 40, or even 60, capacity quiver is really cool. The only medieval sources I've come across mention each bowman having 12-24 arrows.
And might I add this quiver is really pretty, I'd love to get one like this with some Germanic iconography.

Oleg is great! Love the demonstration on your new quiver and looking forward to your new goodies from him.

I have seen quivers like that also with early Turks and Seljuks, but they put the arrows with fletches down and tips up in this kind of quivers. The idea was to prevent the tips from rattling on the quivers bottom when riding, so that they won't loose their sharpness.

I recomnend to use proper leather straps to hang it from the belt. When I made mine, it was surprised how mutch can you regulate the amount of wobble of the quiver. Go for it, will worth it.

Weren't the arrows placed points up in that quiver?

Yes, it does seem like that was a function for it to those that valued keeping the point very sharp. Some of the iconography does support this, and even tells us that historical artists knew their stuff, and weren't just dramatists. The wider bottom could decently accommodate the fletchings, and the cover could keep the tips from poking the rider. Perfectly realistic for that matter, and I'll have to see how efficient I am with pulling arrows out in this way.

@@Bucellarius I guess you had options with these quivers. Maybe some preferred it up, some liked it down.

@@gizmonomono I can imagine that if people preferred the fletchings up, but still wanted to vehemently preserve the point, then a layer of padding could be placed at the bottom so that the arrows don't chafe the rough leather.
