It makes perfect sense to use that insult. Ward was absolutely desperate to have someone tell him what to do so he could live with the illusion of serving a higher purpose. He almost killed off everyone on the team because he was too attached to Garret and his orders and was gloating about how he was of importance to Garret and Hydra. Wishing that Ward gets the order to walk into traffic shows how ridiculous Ward's mentality and self-righteousness is.
