Thank you so much nro.... You've just saved my life. I've got a 2015 Audi TT with the same problem, car struggles to start and idle for a few seconds then dies, I changed the throttle body and the pedal but still no change. The only time it runs better is when the car has no water in because the stupid water pump is leaking bad once we fill up and it starts leaking the car goes back to limp mode so thank you so much 🙏
I have been chasing this issue for months now. You saved me so much headache. Definitely runs now when unplugged. But the thing is it isn't wet anymore because it's been sitting for months so I'm just gonna try to take apart the connector itself to look for corrosion.
Thank you so much! After having connected and disconnected some plugs of my old Passat 2.0TFSI the error has gone. Drove several kilometers, no more error code. Now I know where to have a look upon.
Great tips thank you for that. I have similar issue getting that scanned code: P0642, started about 4 months ago intermittent no throttle, car idles bad, cleared the codes then run it for a few days and again the problem, I decided to changed the throttle body, problem went away for 3 months and came back, when scanning I have again that code : P0642, and many other throttle body and accelarator pedal codes such as: some throttle body codes such as: P0638, PO121, P0221, P2181, P2683, P2181 which some point to waterpump-thermostat, but no leaks. When I do a VCDS scan and step on accelarator pedal, I see voltage moving normally for the pedal but for the throttle body, no change nothing moves when pressing the gas pedal? So not sure if I have the issue you are mentioning here. It's an Audi A3 2015 Quattro. Thanks
I'm using Audi A3 2006. I recently got that code error but before that I had a bad leak on the coolent tank and my mechanic tried to fix it. Nowadays the leak if it's still there is very minimal but there's always smell of burning coolent coming out of the engine when I stop the car. So far the car is running well but I get a sense something is wrong especially with the coolent tank and now the error code and the check engine light on the dashboard. Any advice?
I have that error code in between, it can come on a day and be gone for a whole month or more. The engine light never show it but my omdb tells there is a problem 🤷♂️
The fault would be something on the 5v circuit. Unplug units one at a time then rediagnose to see if the fault goes away. On a tdi, I would I plug the coolant temp sensor first and see if it's wet. After that I would go for the EGR valve

find your thermostat housing.
Would this be the same on a 2.0 tdi?
