Don't only shoot tanks because they are easy to sustain and shooting Squishies gets picks and wins team fights.

I agree if you don’t focus him at the start of the fight he will literally never die
nah still tho, you would want to pick off the supports first. In my encounters with mauga, i find the strategy where the tank would distract the enemy team while the dps flanks the supports to be the best strategy against him. Dude just wont die if you focus all your damage on him, granted that your team's outgoing damage is not a lot. What if your teams damage lower than the enemy team? that happens a lot and mauga would just absolutely obliterate your ass.@@eligreg99

Played bastion today thinking I'd counter him. Guy took a barrage straight to the face like I was hitting him with napkins. I've never felt more powerless.
Bastion melts him if u also have a friendly mauga helping u

Bastion definitely isn't a "one man Mauga counter", but you can melt him quick with Bastion if you catch him out in the open after an anti nade (especially if you're playing behind your own Mauga).
Metal ranks don't understand how his kit actually works, and that's the problem. The reason the Bastion/Mauga matchup could go either way is that Mauga gets temporary HP on crits and his cooldown gives himself (and team) lifesteal like Reaper.
I've played about 100 games of comp this season with a 70% Mauga winrate so far, and about 90% of the time I counter Bastion, 10% of the time he counters me. Comes down to composition, teamplay, and timing. Playing Mauga into an opposing team with coordinated Bastion, Ana, and Dva/Mauga players can get intense.

I feel like Mauga will be an unbalanceble character because of the way he works he will either be oppressive for other tanks or weak against most, he is stronger against bigger character so it will make him strong against tanks but if you nerf him because of that then he will suffer against smaller characters, the worst part is that I dont really see a way to balance this.

As the game grows and adds more, especially tanks. Balance goes out the window and that never comes back. They don't have a good grasp on it already but that is okay. Most games like this know they cannot so they purposefully balance characters they want to see in play more.
League of Legends for example will do things like nerf beloved characters for some dumb reason but when pro season is around the corner? Suddenly the Lee Sin who got nerfed for no reason gets crazy good buffs because they know he is a favorite among pro players and needs to be good for pro plays.
This will happen if Blizzard takes their cue and goes with that flow. Though with OWL dead maybe it will not be as pronounced.
Mauga doesn't need balance, all characters need to be buffed to his level for balance. For example Ana needs 3 sleep darts that never refill until completely empty. Once empty she recharges another 3 instantly upon death or after 10secs from running completely out. Widowmaker needs free swing like Hammond and the ability to hang from walls and ledges like a spider. Farah and Mercy should have free flight modes with cool downs. Mei's ice slide emote needs to become a mobility ability with cooldown for quick escapes.
Yeah he doesn't need a nerf or a buff he needs a full rework. Idk whose idea it was to put a second bastion except ten times tankier into the game, but it wasn't a good one
I thought Comp couldn't get any more demoralizing and depressing, but Mauga in comp makes it unbearable.
I think this raises the importance of DPS in a way now that flanking supports is the way to go if you want a Mauga dead. Characters like Echo and Junkrat have consistent one-shot combos and flanking ability to take down annoying Kiris and LW.
@@ageometrydashlevel9830 Excepted there is currently no reliable dps that can take down supports pocketing each other, some flankers that are designed to counter supports get counter by supports instead. Echo can be shot down by hitscan or Illari and Bap, Junkrat and "consistency" is not a combo I would use together.
The skill required to counter Mauga right now is just too one-sided.
@@favlam1408 Currently, DPS fights up front with Mauga because they typically run characters that can benefit from Cardiac, so enemy DPS is out of the question most of the time. Junkrat, Echo, Tracer, Sombra, or any other flankers can use off-angles that enable them to get behind enemy supports. Certain characters have one-shots that happen so fast that the supports die even before IF or Cleanse are used.
@@ageometrydashlevel9830 Out of all the list, I can see Tracer being the most effective against supports, but there are a lot of supports with vertical mobility, can get out of her range, or two shots her.
Widow and Hanzo can be shut down by flankers, so it's a moot point.
As far as I see it, flankers shut down snipers, supports shut down flankers.
Plus, the skill required to play snipers and flankers versus Mauga and his team going brrrrrr is like night and day.

10:26 Flats discovering there's no bottom to Mauga's cage LMAO. During Mauga's Blizzcon weekend, me and a friend found that if you fall a significant amount below the cage, the chain will break and you are free, but we were only able to do it with the cage near a ledge, and lifting it up with Lifeweaver's petal. They apparently took away LW lifting the cage after its been placed down with Mauga's season release, but LW can place the petal first and Mauga can place the cage on it in the air, and when the petal breaks the cage will drop down on whoever is there

Im not saying orisa is op by any means but her gold form is worse, maui can get you out of certain situations with a crumb of skill or foresight (for example running before enemy cage fight because you can't use overrun during it) but orisa can keep shooting during hers and just pop it whenever as well as get extra health so in some scenarios she basically takes no damage at all
There’s no bigger feeling of relief in this game right now than the one you get when you see the enemy tank isn’t Mauga.
That said, I enjoy seeing him when I’m in a sweaty game. I’m bad at the game but I made it to plat with widow/torb. Seeing an enemy mauga roll my team makes me feel less alone in being bad at this game

If you are able to get their backline, the tank usually swaps. Ofc Mauga is always going to be picked because the OW community always plays the new character to death.
Playing with and against mauga is not very engaging until they make it so shooting the other tank is not the best thing you can do as him
Exactly, I was playing Winton into Mauga and I could almost do nothing. Didn’t help that my team wouldn’t dive with me, they were only shooting Mauga whose health wasn’t going down at all because of a Weaver who I would try to dive. Had to always prematurely dip before confirming the kill. Sure that can be an issue with mistiming Monke but Mauga just shrinks that timing where you can’t make value.
Every time I play Mauga it feels really fun but definitely broken against other tanks. My opinion is the other tanks should be buffed more than Mauga being nerfed because I like playing against him with other roles, he’s just not balanced against tanks.
Throwaway season. Gotta get that battle pass money, so they make the most oppressive character the game has ever had. Come next season (hopefully, they’ll nerf this trash into the mediocre slot and at least make him 1v1-able by something other than himself

@@wusaint Yup, I hate it. I loved Winton’s new buff of ignoring armor but it literally does nothing if you get instantly zoned out. The only tank I’ve seen that can hold ground to Mauga is JQ so far.
My big issue is I like Mauga, I think it’s fun not to explode instantly. But if I want to play anything other than Mauga I just go back to classic tank for the last few seasons of turn a corner and poof. I thought the video that… was it Jay3, where the team shares a health pool really helped show the issue with burst damage and healing in its current state. I think supports are important but shouldn’t be harder to kill than the tank.
Ana and Bap are the main two I have in mind. It’s the same a lot of the sups though, that’s why I’ve started on my Lucio binge. Lucio is the weakest sup in my opinion. Not cause he’s bad, just cause every other support is overblown. I feel like I have a lot to improve on with Lucio compared to the others.

@@cheeseman_jones depends on what you mean. He has less dps than Bastion turret form, but even if you're only hitting body shots he has more overall dps than Bastion because his absurdly high dps ability isn't on a 10 second cooldown like Bastion's

@@Kevin-xq2tvyeah he only feels tanky when you have that tank to just blast into for all the healing and health but once you have to actually target a squishy they're too small to hit consistently and you have to only shoot one at a time thus making any survivability a lot less to small targets
Mauga shreds Bastion without a Support helping him. Burning crits on a big DPS hitbox plus healing from Cardiac Overdrive makes Bastion explode even when in Turret Mode.@@Kevin-xq2tv

Maybe if they made it to where you can only shoot 1 gun at a time except in his ult where u can shoot both? He only really seems broken when hes really close to you because of the raw damage and self healing.
my new favorite strat i like to call the "im not in here with you your in here with me" when an enemy mauga ults i (as torb) run into it and ult my self they will refuse to leave their ult bubble and burn an die. prob dont work in higher ranks ill emit but it works really well if nothing else it makes them have to waste ult basically

Mauga just sprints up SHREADS me to pieces in about 2 seconds, he’s broken as fuck and it’s insulting that Blizzard thinks that’s acceptable to put behind a paywall
Did you know Mauga completely counters Rein pin. Not only does it boop rein out of the way, it knocks down Rein, without disrupting Mauga at all even during a counterpin.

Mauga vs Mauga is one of the worst things in the game. It's completely brainless and redundant.
Mei's wall seems to be one of the most effective ways to counter Mauga. It's giant, has tons of health, and the sheer size can effectively block LoS of his healers unless they have high ground, were off angling, or can get over the wall quickly (Bap and Kiri for example). It was in QP, but I had a match last night where the enemy Hog would hook me in and then Mei would wall behind me, and it was basically a free trip back to my team's spawn. Watching the replay after I think I should have charged past them to get behind the enemy team, creating some distance and hopefully giving me a chance to heal a bit with my E. Her ult lobbed into an enemy Mauga's ult can also completely turn Mauga's ult against him if the enemy Mauga can't cancel and charge away in time.
I do think Mauga needs a bit more tuning and I can totally agree his biggest issue right now is he basically forces the meta for both teams, but folks are figuring out how to counter him decently enough that I think, with a bit more time, he'll still be a threat but not the complete slam dunk he can appear to be. He's still very predicated on playing around cover unless he's being pocketed, and if the enemy has an Ana and neither of your team's supports swap to Kiri, Mauga's gonna have a bad time.

Each level is like 5000 xp i think.
45×5000= 225,000 xp
You can get at most 15,000 once per day from the dailies.
Or 15 days.
On average a match earns you 100xp [+50 per win]
20%extra if in a group.
You're putting in at least 30 minutes a day
So lets give a nice 50/50 metric. 5 matches per day. 3 wins, 2 lost. 650 xp+15,000 and youre alone. 15,650 xp per day and it takes less than an hour.
You would still put 14.3 days worth. Winning a majority of your matches didnt do much.
Lets add a friend! 20% of 650 adds a bonus 130xp.
225,000/15,780= 14.25------
Its still two weeks of grinding with dailies
Friendly 20% boost and
A 60% winrate.
Unless i did the math wrong.
If you win all 5 daily matches
You get 750
Add 20% [150]
900
225k÷15,900=14.15----
You could win every game, with a friend, finish your 3 dailies
And still take two weeks.
But you save 1 whole daily challenge cycle

I dunno, it wasn't a big deal to me, but I'm a casual player and not a high skill ranked player. Best I've ranked is gold and at that level, you can play whatever really. Before I got him I'd just play Orisa or Sigma into him and do fine. Either way, it wasn't long after the battle pass came out that I got to him on it, maybe like a week or so and I don't even play that much, free of charge.

It's crazy to me that an OW2 hero needs a rework 2 weeks after being released.
If this was OW1 with 2 tanks, he would be so fun. As one tank, he just doesnt work...
Like, obviously he would need to be toned back, but just imagine him with Rein or with Zarya, or with a Sig. It would actually work.

Damage is a dead role, they should’ve done 2-1-2 since the release of OW2.
Open queue genuinely feels like a more balanced experience in Masters+, since almost everyone understands what combos have been good over the years.
In well-ranked open queue games you’ll likely get zero or just 1 damage player. 2-3 tanks with 2-3 supports feels pretty good.
Although I’m quite sure a solid LW, Kiri, Ana + Mauga, Sigma would obliterate balance.

they gave bastion the doomfist passive by just hitting his shots, then said "what if we gave him an ability that gives him a better reaper passive? and make him by far the highest damaging tank in the game.. and make half his health pool armor... seems healthy."
And also what if he had a charge with an arbitrary stipulation that none of the cc abilities in the game can effect it?
Also this design is very complex so it's gonna take 2 years for our team to implement the hero into the game.

Maugas right gun is the one that crits when the enemy is on fire. Does it make sense to still aim for the head and do even more "critical" damage, or is the crit damage the same everywhere?
My gut says that headshots do more, but I have no clue.

it does the same but if you can keep hitting headshots consistently outside of burn you can keep up right fire more

Your left click can still headshot so If youre close up and shooting both guns you can still aim for the head for more damage.
Same everywhere but the left doesn't crit on body so getting those few extra crits on the left can make a big difference in the mauga v mauga matchups
Aim for their legs after they're on fire. Never use both guns unless you're close enough to make every bullet in the spray connect.
I think sigma sorta counters mauga, just have to rotate between suck and barrier and rock mauga constantly, I had a game earlier and it worked kinda well, but I had extremely good healers, so maybe it's the healers

I heard that Maui was originally supposed to have a flame thrower and grenade launcher. The incompetence of the devs is astounding they literally have tf2 as a outline and still manage to fail. Demo? Pyro? And tank in one role? The potential could have been crazy maybe give him a 200 round/tick flame thrower that ticks for 10 damage per second then the grenade launcher should only have 4 shots in it and is like junks c4 but it acts as a finisher instead of a combo tool.
Imo its better than the horse who only exists to just not die more than to actually do something.

I'm actually done with overwat h until he's nerfed. I don't have the battle pass and it feels like any other tank can't fight against him unless your team has an Ana and even then all they need is kiri. And you can't just ignore him either because he'll just shred you. I played 3 games yesterday and I straight up couldn't play. I saw him sand in hanzos dragon and come out with basically full hp, it's so awful I hate this hero.
I've had confidence in the OW team and given them the benefit of the doubt but after this character idk if the current dev team is good for the game.

My friend an I were playing and he was bastion. He was shooting him and he says bruh his health isn't going down. Like dude it's annoying af and when your tanks doesn't know how to use him he just dies super easy

It's almost like if you take a a counter-pick-or-lose hero for low to mid-tier play and buff them for no reason they become OP and boring all around. There have definitely been heroes that are worse in terms of design for themself, but Mauga is literally the perfection combination of all awful for everyone in a match *especially* in mirror match ups.
As Tank, you essentially lose all agency in in actually winning a fight against him because your supps are the only ones with direct counters UNLESS you decide to play him too in which case your gameplay is fucking braindead and still based on how good/what your supports are.
As DPS you have no agency at all anywhere in the equation because basically no DPS has an actual direct counter. If it's a Mauga mirror, every DPS is basically playing a 2v2 instead of a 5v5 because your only job is going to being either diving enemy supps or peeling for your own. (Despite that you're getting zero heals unless you can do it yourself because your Mauga WILL combust as soon as they take their eye off him)
And finally as a Supp you pick *must* have Ana, and either Kiri or Zen depending on the binary of whether you have a Mauga or not. Unless you want to lose in which case fuck it, pick whatever.
I'm genuinely not surprised the devs teased him in 2019, because there is no fucking world any sane person would look at Mauga's design even on paper and think "Yes. This. This is fit for 5v5"

I haven't unlocked Mauga and got him in a comp match yesterday. I'm 14-4 first round (as Rein) and my team has the gaul to say "tank please switch, he's out damaging you" -_-

Mauga gameplay is less compelling to watch than Orisa is, and that's something I never thought I'd feel.

All I've taken from this video is that if you want to kill Mauga, you need Mauga with Ana and Kiriko pocketing him. Sounds about balanced
