I first read eragon when I was 16 years old I decided to check out the book because of the film adaptation that was released I really enjoyed the book the movie I liked at the time even though it's not all that great
I disagree that he isn't being unique. I can point out in every fantasy after year 1995 that can point to any of those books you mention. The hero story is the hero story that is used throughout of all fiction. You can pin that to pretty much everything. Second. Token wasn't the first to use Wizards, Shades, Dwarfs, Orcs, and Elves. I also disagree with the Urgals are actually Orcs. There is so much more depth to the Urgals in here. The only thing that has just as much in-depth Orc would be Warcraft III. Only problem is that Eragon came out before Warcraft III. With the Star Wars. The Jedi Order was ripped off of other fantasy stories with Magi Order. I can find all the source material that Token and George Lucas based there stories off of. So with that being said. Don't we call Star War Original. Don't we call Lord of the Rings Original. To me the inheritance Cycle is original as it gets. Also think there is no better Fantasy Series out there in my opinion. I love LOR and SW. But this cycle crushes them in comparison in my opinion. It is not def on me that you enjoyed it. It always strikes a nerve with me when I hear people say that. Once I point out there hypocrisy. Then there like Ohhh well when you put it that way it is original. Especially when I point out that Star Wars stole a crap load from Dune and George Lucas even admits that what he did.
I was mostly saying from my perspective that even if a bunch of it is derivative that's ok because so much of fantasy uses all the same stuff. Eragon specifically gets called out more often than others for some reason. Didn't stop me from loving it as a kid or as an adult.
