  • At Display Week 2024, LG unveiled what they claim to be the "world's best micro OLED display." Kim, representing EDG Display, presented this groundbreaking technology, boasting impressive specifications. The micro OLED features a resolution of 4K by 4K, with a field of view reaching up to 90°. Kim mentioned the potential to expand the field of view beyond 120° but highlighted concerns about distortion, indicating a focus on maintaining sharpness.
With a brightness of 10,000 nits, the display promises vivid visuals, consistent across all panels. Kim emphasized that the display utilizes OLED on Silicon (OLOS) technology, ensuring a perfect display without any dead pixels. Primarily designed for VR applications, the micro OLED's specifications surpass those of competitors like Apple's Vision Pro, boasting over 4,000 PPI, double the brightness, and superior color accuracy.
However, Kim remained cautious about declaring it the unequivocal best, acknowledging the challenges in comparing it to technologies like micro LED or LCD. Mass production timelines remain uncertain, with Kim noting that it depends on the feedback received at the event. Initial reactions from attendees were overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing awe at the display's capabilities.
In addition to VR applications, LG showcased a 3D smartwatch featuring a light field display, offering a unique viewing experience with over 10 view fields. The watch, optimized for personal use, boasts a resolution of 3 to 400 PPI after 3D conversion. Kim highlighted the versatility of the micro OLED display, emphasizing its use across different devices and applications.
LG also presented advancements in traditional OLED technology, including NextGen OLED with increased luminance, higher ambient contrast ratio, and lower power consumption. The company demonstrated a transparent OLED with 60% transparency, offering a glimpse into potential future applications. NextGen OLED technology is expected to penetrate the TV market, promising enhanced transparency and clarity.
Furthermore, LG showcased various OLED innovations catering to specific markets, including gaming OLEDs with ultra-fast response times, advanced thin OLEDs for automotive applications, and glasses-free 3D displays. These advancements underline LG's commitment to pushing the boundaries of OLED technology across diverse industries.

Charbax, you should've asked him how they were able to achieve higher brightness and better colour gamut over Sony's Micro-Oled display in Apple Vision Pro. What they did in the manufacturing process to achieve those specs.
