I read and loved Anne Lamott's 'Bird by Bird', her "shitty 1st draft" concept was an eye opener. I find that giving myself permission to write a crappy initial draft is liberating although at times my inner critic/demon loves to remind me that "shitty" writing is all I'm good at!
My goal is also 1 book a week, but I'm sticking to my genre. I go through phases where I'm really into reading for a couple of weeks, I can read 2-3 books in one week, and then for a couple of weeks I'm doing everything but reading.
@@ignitedinkwriting8746 Good to know I'm not the only one. Mostly for pleasure, but when I get to a part that I love or hate I like to figure why is that. And when I finish the book I spent a few minutes thinking of the story structure and character arc.

Lol! I still love her book too. To appease my inner critic, I leave myself notes at the start of a scene for when I come back to revise.

I go through readings spurts sometimes too. Are you reading for pleasure or to improve your writing?
