Resurrected Starships Can you please next week or next moth do my Star Trek FASA animated ship analysis request on this unusual yet very interesting FASA Klingon ship: www.ststcsolda.space/klingons/D-11/D-11.html? It's called the D-11 "One Wing" class Destroyer. It's a ship that caught my eye in the Klingon Ship Recognition Manual because of it's very strange wing like appearance. There's also a 24th Century refit version of this ship which can be found here: www.ststcsolda.space/klingons/onewing_tng/onewing_tng.html
An excerpt from New Republic High Command, discussing the recent Pirate Attacks using various modified Marauder-Class Corvettes: “So... we’re in agreement?” “Of course, General. We wouldn’t be here if we weren’t.” “Very well. Then it’s time to decide: Alliance or Annihilation. These blasted things keep using our old tactics from the old days, and without those Imperial Interdictor Cruisers, we’re unable to catch them. So we have a choice: become the old Republic and make a deal with the crime lords as we rot in inactivity, or become the Empire, and crush them.” “I’m afraid either would be costly and difficult. While our vessels are powerful, yes, we’d never destroy a significant amount of their Corvettes in time. Their main and most effective tool would not be defeated, and our campaign would be in vain. They’re simply too well designed for hit and fade operations. This is why we bought to many from them.” “But they have one fatal flaw! One I ran I to countless times on the old Windswept!” “Commander?” “Well Madame Chancellor, the Marauder is a Fine ship, but like all birds that size, she has a fatal flaw that we can exploit: they don’t have the consumables to last very long without a base nearby. Sure they can last you until your great-grandkids lose their hair, but the people on the ship can’t pack enough rations or spare parts in the cargo bays, especially with cargo too, for more than a month I’d gamble.” “So we eliminate their main bases and let them starve until they surrender?” “Not quite, Miss. The Commander would have pointed out next the tenacity of such pirates next, I’m sure.” “Yeah. You cut down home base, they’ll just pack up and find a new one, or lay low at a secret one, or maybe just park out of system and fly into a cantina on their fighters. Drink themselves into a stupor while they wait for the gang to pull back together, maybe take a guild job or two.” “Not to mention retaliation attacks. We know they like to hide bigger ships here and there.” “So, they are essentially unkillable in traditional combat?” “Not exactly. They have good firepower, but not great point-defense or armor. Kind of like baby Star Destroyers. What I say, is that we bait them with some transports that we fill with too much contraband for any one group to steal from, and let two or three ships come for it. Then, while they’re docked or in-transit, we drop in our X-wings and blow out the hyperdrives. After that, they have to fight with their trousers down, socks on, and ba-“ “That’s quite enough Commander! However, Miss Chancellor, I must agree with the tactical assessment of the plan.” “Very well. I’ll allow you to being planning this... Operation...” Transmission ends.
Other possible strategies are; Having a juicy target that they dock with to steal the cargo, turn out to be full of commandos who instead swarm in and capture the pirate's ship. If some stun weapons are used, that gives the opportunity to find out where their hidden bases are, assuming the data isn't just in their navigation computers. The more bloodthirsty option. Remote or droid crewed cargo ships that are secretly kamikazies, aka booby trapped bombs. The pirate's again dock, and their ship gets blown up. The same strategy can even be used with cargo containers. Use a freighter that drops off its cargo containers when threatened, and they explode when the pirate's grab them. Both strategies have the advantage that the rest of the pirate fleet doesn't hear about it. They just have their ships disappear one by one. Although the ship full of commandos trick would require jamming so the pirate bridge crew couldn't send out a warning to their compatriots as soon as commandos started flooding into their ship. A broad range jammer that even affected personal communicators would also interfere with the pirate crew mounting a credible defence. They'd waste precious seconds realising _they_ were the prey.
Always loved the Marauder Corvette space frame. The Essential Guide To Vehicles and Vessels says those long canons are turbolaser clusters. The 8 turbolasers could make sense, personally, I always thought they were a quasi gattling cluster. But that was just my take. Anyway love your work, you got a subscriber.
Addendum: The literature and diagram found in "The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels" state the double turbolasers are retractable noting a position on the nose. So 8 double turbolasers that's a lot of firepower especially if they're the heavy variants.
Good timing with this video, I needed something to remind me of a time when Star Wars wasn't so controversial. I've always liked the Marauder, even if its shape suggests more of a starfighter scale. It helps that it was used extensively by the Corporate Sector Authority, an entity I felt had real potential as an alternate "bad guy faction" to the usual Empire/Sith in the old EU, but tended to be criminally underused in this regard. I agree with the armament assessment. It's been my observation that most sources tend to exaggerate the number of turbolasers and ion cannons for capital ships when you compare them with the actual ship models and on screen combat performance. My headcanon is that there are many calibers of starship energy weapons, more than just the vague "heavy/medium/light/twin/quad/octuple" designations that are typically alluded to in sourcebooks. The Marauder's designers clearly went with a "bigger is better" mentality, slapping on a few huge caliber guns more commonly used for heavy cruisers or battleships.
I love the Marauder Corvette, and this video made me love it even more! ^^ The Sabertooth is a cool Pirate ship, I love the new Stats you gave it, the 8 Turbolasers are cool, but this makes it a much more versitile pirate ship. the added engines and shape of the ship give it the appearance of a Klingon Bird of prey. I recently lost a Marauder Corvette in a Star Wars Roleplay session, and this video showing how awesome the ship is makes it hurt even more that I lost it. XD Overall, great video, awesome 3D modelling, and keep up the good work with covering awesome obscure Sci-Fi ships.
@@resurrectedstarships Thanks, and will do, and your video motivated me to do so, maybe my pirates could have a specialized Marauder fleet. Like how the Rodian Bomu clan used a fleet of YV-260s Maybe I'll try to get some sort of cloaking tech, to make the Bird of prey reference even bigger. XD
Interesting that it has heavy turbolasers. I tend to put Quad light trubolasers on light freighters as a deterrent. Pirates and others would have to think more before engaging the ship.
I always preferred the Marauders as a combat ship than the CR90. I would’ve added a stronger power generator for better sublight speed and stronger shield. I then would’ve upgraded the hyperdrive to a class 1 and have 3 turbolasers and 3 Ion Cannons to disable and capture ships, 4 dual laser canons and several flak blisters for fighters. I would’ve added fighter racks on the underside of the wings to carry larger fighters. 4 Y-Wings on each wing and 4 more in the hanger. Lastly I would automate as much of the systems as possible so I can carry 160 troops and 97 crew.
It really is impressive. Just one thing- if the turbolasers and ion cannons are on the wingtips, wouldn't sawing the wings in half to insert additional engine risk the power distribution to the weapons?
A Marauder is defintely a good pirate ship, and the best corvette for a pirate's needs of those we have detailed stats for. However if I were choosing a pirate ship I would go for a Corona class Armed Frigate or a Kossak class Frigate. Based on how the armaments for CR90s and Nebulon-Bs were converted to Saga the Corona armed has 8 double medium turbolasers, 16 heavy ion cannons, and 8 medium lasers stock. Though she only carries six fighters, you might be able to remove the faciluities for a dozen tanks to add more fighters. Plus she comes with a class 1 hyperdrive. The Kossak has 12 medium turbolaser batteries, 12 double light lasers, and 4 twin medium ion cannons plus she has room for a dozen fighters, including four heavy fighters or bombers.
You said that by looking at the ship, you only see two turbolasers. Turbolasers can be smaller and weaker. Like you said, the ones on the wings that are mounted forward and heavy turbolasers. But the ship must have had smaller turbolasers mounted on turrets, the way the CR-90 does. Yes, the guns on the CR-90 are turbolasers. What you modeled as a quad laser turret probably way larger than the Falcon's quad lasers, and more appropriate to a turbolaser.
Your armament assesment says the ships dual turbolaser compliment is unrealistic, but you place a quad turbolaser..... four on the middle of the wings top and bottom, two more on the tips of the wings, and two on the hull up front, and it has 8 spaced out nicely.
It is in canon now what of the source books talks about the Marauder cruiser. And it still was meant for the Republic and sold to the CSA. It is much weaker in cannon though.
I like the marauders but I'm disappointed that although longer than the CR90 and C70 it carrys less than half of consumables and cargo space of either Corvettes.
Resurrected Star Ships, will you continue any of the Thrawn Series? They were really good. By the way this video was nicely done. One of your best. Cheers!
Thank you - not sure. I am thinking I may do CG breakdowns of the Thrawn battles in the original Thrawn trilogy. This ofc would require me to model a Chimera, among other things lol, but it would be fun!
I've always liked the design of this ship, but have always had a hard time reconciling its size against its design. Looks far too "starfightery". Great video regardless of my hang ups. Keep 'em coming!
I think some more windows and hatches would give it better scale, it has the same general profile as the Klingon Vor'cha or Bird-of-Prey, but lacks many elements that provide scale.
The Marauder Class is one of my favorite ship designs in Star Wars. It's good to see it get some love.
Had to learn to do a lot of things in Blender that I had not done before - used other programs, but it looks like I can finally do all the things!
Why not try a ship like the SDF-1 Macross from SDF Macross( not Robotech as that is not proper Macross). The site Macross Mecha Manual has the specs.

Marvelous design! Reminiscent of the Klingon B'Rel class BoP. Love it!

This had a lot of useful information. I appreciate the visuals of where everything is as well.
The artwork is good, I like the explanation of the of this ship being in the hands of pirates. I liked the red and black color scheme on the ship

@@resurrectedstarships Imperial Ambush, Marauder was practically Target Practice for a Super Star Destroyer.

When I rule wild space this will be in my fleet. 👍🏼 Great clip
The ship looks bad ass. Slap on a few upgrades, faster light speed engine, Ultrachrome armor. Its what I would want as a pirate.
Its a fun ship if it was included in canon.
