I own this tent and I am very satisfied with it. Condensation appear in lower altitude; but on high altitude with open the roof and side zip openings (which is important, otherwise you will experience a lack of oxygen) it handles it very well. Also on heavy wind you hear just a damping sound from the wall. You have to be careful with putting in the poles into the sleeve; one segment went slightly apart and I didn´t notice it, so it cracked! But luckily Samaya sent me a new segment! Also want to mention, that Samaya has an Re-Use sale, where you can buy theyr products a lot cheaper! Best quality - love it!

Hey thank you for the comment and sharing your experience with the Samaya Assaut2 8K. I have only tested it at lower levels but as it mostly has been windy then absolutely no condensation issues. The ventilation is great with the two side and two top vents. I too am very happy with the tent as build quality and attention to detail are probably the best in the industry.. Once again thank you for sharing your experience of this tent.. I really appreciate it... Best wishes Tom

@@TOMHEANEY100 So you like this one better than the Samaya 2.0 and the Inspire? It would be interesting to see your take on why you chose this one over the other two.
Though you're also doing a (unfortunately for my bank account) good job of marketing these tents ;)

Nice video Tom. I noticed you used an air sack to inflate your air mat. I used to use one and found it really tedious to deal with. The idea of them is to avoid getting condensation into the air mat but blowing into them then transferring that air into your mat is basically going to transfer moisture. They’re a nightmare to fill with ease unless it’s windy. My favourite device so far is the exped hand pump. Not that lightweight but does the job well.

    • @TOMHEANEY100
      @TOMHEANEY100  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi thank you for the comments and sharing your experience... Most of the manufactures supply pump sacks and have their mats treated with an antibacterial treatment so personally that's good enough for me and I dont worry about the moisture thing.. I can inflate the big Agnes mat I have here in 3 fills so I am ok with that. I double up the pump sac as a storage bag so it then is not adding extra weight and weight is very important to me where every gram counts. But that's just the way I do it and I am always open to ideas so probably will try the small pump thing at some point in the not too distant future... hey best wishes Tom

Nice video as always. You’re actually one of the few I know I can give a thumbs up even before I watch the video. I just know it’s going to be good. I’m very much looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the tent when you’ve tested it out properly. Very interested to hear how the tent deals with sustained rain, and if it will hold the water out. I do understand that Samaya tents are made for high altitude mountaineering. But, if I’m going to invest in such an expensive tent, I need to know that it’s not going to start leaking at some point in the future. I have considered Samaya tents before, but as of now I’m on the fence. I’m excited to hear what you have to say about it in the future.

Hey great to hear from you once again and I appreciate your comments on many of my videos.. It's great to know that you enjoy my content. Out testing tomorrow night again... Yes sustained rain where I have to keep the vents closed could be interesting re condensation.... But like I mentioned no tents are perfect and under wind and rain the Hilleberg vent covers can let some rain through too.. So far so very good and I will challenge the tent in realistic conditions and not specifically seek out weather that doesn't give it a fighting chance.. The next video I hope to compare it in some respects against my Akto as I will only be keeping one.. Best wishes Tom

Hi Tom. That is a good looking simple hi-tech tent. Something I would consider for my two wheel and foot travels. It has some good features. I like the tie outs on the poles. The interior and doorway size seem very ample. Simple setup and fairly compact footprint are good. Life on the edge or between rocks. The bag looks good. Mine was very well made. Hey take care. Get back out when you can.

Thats really good of Samaya to send you that for free and good of you to maintain an unbiased experienced opinion. Interesting tent for sure and great review of it and the Mythic 600. Your thoughts/opinion on that Mythic are exactly the same as mine on the ME 600 but its perfect if you want to just sleep in a base layer when its zero degrees other wise its a bit too warm for me above 0'C so its a cold weather season bag . Re the Samaya the only issue i can see is lack of vestibule if its raining but like you said it's designed for Mountaineering in cold dry conditions. I have just managed to buy a Lightwave S10/S15 in brand new condition off eBay for 299 quid which is not a million miles off that Samaya only it does have a vestibule area and its also single skin and breathable and i am hoping that this will be my lightweight winter tent to replace the Soulo ( still holding onto the Soulo though...its kind of my Tent Pension in my tent real estate portfolio hahaha :) I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Samaya during the winter months when its exposed to strong winds and to see how it fairs when you are battened down and needing to cook inside it although thats most likely to be boiling water for dehydrated meals. I hope it serves you well.

Wanted to vary the videos a bit but honestly I hope to use it without the vestibule a fair bit so its great that it s removable... Like I said re the sleeping bag I should have gone for the 400 but at only 200g heavier and an extra 5 degrees warmer.... Last winter I was cold nearly every night camping so no more of that for me.. I got a Mythic 400 bag a few years ago but found it not warm enough in winter and added a 600 which is great for really cold temps. The zipper on the 400 snags a lot but 600 seems better in this respect (perhaps Rab improved the design).

Yeah. That looks a cracker Tom. I'm loving the simplicity of it. As I've mention before, I do love my Stone Glacier, but pitching it can be a tedious affair. Especially if the weather is bad and all you want to do is get inside the tent. That looks so simple and I love those side pockets. You gotta love a good pocket!!
I reckon it would be perfect for my winter camps. I also think it would be a good option for doing a trail such as the West Highland Way. It's light enough for sure.

There was absolutely no wow factor with the tent. The outer tent had an extra seam right towards the middle of one of the panels which was not shown in the website picture. Hey thank you for your comments.. I am a massive fan of the Jannu.. Particularly for one person if you are happy with a 3kg tent.. It's very comfortable in high winds and can easily handle big dumps of snow... 10 mm poles are available too if you want even more strength.. The only two small drawbacks are it's pitching time due to the number of clips and guy points, and despite its theoretical length due to the slope of the back wall and front door your head or feet will lightly touch the inner if you are the same height as me... BUT personally I can manage these and am more than happy with it as the tent to keep if I was only allowed one... I hope this helps and it's really great to have you on board the channel,. Hey Tom. That’s definitely one of the more unique looking tents I’ve seen. What diameter are the poles? I really like the look of the top ventilation points. Good to see the use of waterproof zippers. That should hopefully illuminate the Hilleberg issue of leaking through zippers in wind driven rain. As you know I’m a massive Hilleberg fan, but sometimes I think they get a bit lazy with not advancing their design details such as this. Are there any side guy out points? Looking fwd to seeing this in the wind on Luke’s, you gave it an easy first outing lol. Cheers Gary

Yeah we both are big Hilleberg fans but they don't make many changes... Even a new tent would be nice but no sign of that . As you know the Samaya here is trying to push out my Akto. So far it hasn't won that battle yet but it's making progress.. I have got John to come up tomorrow so it's side by side in some respects.. You sure are welcome to join us.. Best wishes Tom

Western Mountaineering Sycamore MF: Cheaper than the Rab (£500 imported vs about £545 for the Rab). Roughly the same weight and temp ratings (mine is overfilled, so about -7C standard rating instead of -4C). Has a full zip which goes all the way around the foot, to lay it out flat like a blanket, or for two people in warmer weather. And has much more hip and foot width, as it's semi-rectangular, not a mummy. Overall I think a better choice, and cheaper. In fact, probably the "best" for that weight and temp, due to its spacious shape and handy full zip. Couldn't find anyone else selling the same shape with those specs. Also 20 Denier vs 7 for the Rab.

Hi Chris, thank you for your comments and sharing this information... Overall the Western Mountaineering bag is obviously the better choice for you but not for me... Slightly different aspects that suit your personal choice and I respect that.. I got this Rab bag for £350, I prefer a narrow bag, the Rab bag has more down in it, I would need the longer bag in the Sycamore, and I dont like the fact that in Western Mountaineering bags the down is more free so it can be moved where you need it, and in the long version the bag is slightly heavier with less actual down in it.. As you have looked at Rab bags and decided they may not be for you... I have looked at Western Mountaineering bags and it was close but I preferred the spec of this one especially at the price I got it for... best wishes Tom

Hi Tom, Great video, interesting tent, the sky blue colour and the big logo not a deal breaker although still a bit wary of single skinners.

Yes I understand they are a bit of a risk.. But I think I will get lots of use of this one with many more videos showing how it's getting on in varied conditions.. Thank you for watching and best wishes Tom

I think if MSR is the Volkswagen and Hilleberg the Mercedes of the tent world, Samaya is the Bentley imho. Just a class above all the other tents I have seen so far.👍👍

Hey Daniel that's a good way to look at it... There is no doubt that the Brand is super premium.. The quality and packaging of this tent are the best I have personally experienced.. Out camping tomorrow night and like a child at Christmas 🎄 I just can't wait to be honest... Hey best wishes and thank you for your comments and thoughts 🤔.. Tom

Re the loop for a climbing situation. Your explanation is a bit unclear. That loop will be used to clip the tent to whatever anchor or anchors you have set up at your bivy.

Hi yes absolutely and then inside the tent the occupants can clip into the loop.. That would be my understanding. Sorry if my explanation was unclear... Best wishes Tom
