Kawasaki KDX200A engine rebuild - episode 2

  • After sourcing new parts im now ready to to reassemble my Kawasaki KDX200A engine, put it back in the bike and started it up for the first time. This is a 40 year old enduro bike and spares are becoming very scarce so I had to use patten parts where I could find them and accept some parts may be near there service life dimensions.
I am continuing to look out for parts like a NOS piston to replace at a later date if one turns up. The video captures the essence of rebuilding an engine and not necessarily a step by step definative guide.
    Hope you enjoy watching
    best Regards
    Allen Millyard

First off I think you are brilliant and I really enjoy your videos. I owned a Kawasaki, KTM Dealership and worked on bikes 50 yrs, a trick an older friend that owned a machine shop and built 1,000s of bike engines taught me. On engines that the main bearing and seal goes in the case from the inside so you can't heat the bearing to expand it so the crank falls in because of the seal. He would make a pin diameter of the crank stepped so it couldn't go into the bearing far enough to touch the seal. Heat the pin set it on the bearing as the bearing expands the pin drops in, remove the pin and the crank will fall right into the bearing. In no way do I know more or am as talented as you just a trick I learned that made bike engine rebuilding easy.

What an amazing channel you have, my face lights up every time I see a new video of Millyard :) Your video's are almost some sort of therapy to me and I think I have watched most video's 3 times already. Watching this video of Alan's crank rebuild reminded me of my dear departed Dad.. He once bought a Montesa 348 which we took for a test ride at a local disused RAF airfield where people had been dumping piles of unwanted topsoil and rubble for years. Unfortunately, when it came to my turn it seized up absolutely solid and I really felt sick for having wrecked Dad's new (to him) trials bike.. At least we thought it had seized, but when we got it apart it turned out that the crank pin was too loose a fit in the flywheels - to solve this, in the past some engineering genius had ARALDITED the pin into the flywheels !! - This bodge did actually hold until I had revved it hard to go up a steep incline, then the flywheels had spun out of alignment and jammed in the crankcases.. It was still a pain to fix (Montesa parts weren't easy to get at the time..) but at least I didn't feel quite so guilty !!..
