  • Do you truly understand tolerance? Shayai Lucero blends traditional Pueblo lessons, teachings, and beliefs with other traditional ways of thought, her travels, experiences as an entrepreneur, as a scientist, a healer, LGBTIQ ally, daughter, mother, sister and friend… in developing a unique sense of tolerance that is needed in society today. Shayai Lucero was born and raised on the reservations of the Pueblos of Acoma and Laguna. She is a 2008 UNM graduate and a former Miss Indian World (1997). In 2011, Shayai was one of "40 Under 40" by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. Shayai is a lifelong student of the traditional Pueblo healing methods. In 2005, she received her Certificate in Traditional Mexican Healing and has integrated Curanderismo Medicine with traditional Pueblo healing. In 2016, Shayai was selected as a "Nominated Changemaker" to attend the United State of Women Summit hosted by The Obama White House. She was one of 49 Native American women out of 5000+ participants. A small business owner of Earth & Sky Floral Designs, Shayai has learned floral design elements and techniques to create her own quirky floral style that has recently been recognized by the international floral industry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I have heard that no one wants to be tolerated. we all yearn to be accepted and celebrated for who we truly are

But it's wrong to try to force people to change their convictions for our comfort. That is controlling.

Keep in mind that Hispanic isn't a race. It's more about culture. Hispanics can be of any race.

Not adding more wood to the fire calms it down. I say nothing to those kinds of people. They cannot judge the color of my skin, because I won't let them do it. Staying silent is the best way to deal with peoples cruel words. I get to smile and be happy because I did not join they're hate

That's the first I've heard of Native Americans practicing Vodou. Someone needs to tell that lady that Vodou is a Haitian religion.

Great talk! I’d like to learn more about my family’s Pueblo roots-language and traditions. My great grandparents were from Taos. I’d especially like to learn about traditional medicinals.
Looking at my hands now. Hmmm....
