Jamie Dornan did that pommel horse lifting with no wires, no CGI. He explained this on Conan, he told the director that they only had one take for him to do this because it is very difficult to do but he did it.

Still pains me to know that Fifty Shades was a Twilight fanfiction at first and was picked up by publishers 😭😭
Especially, because I've read WAY BETTER Twilight BDSM fanfic than 50 shades.... Like it's SO bad idk how it got published tbh. And low and behold 50 shades is the one that made it mainstream. It's almost hilarious. But yeah there are some actual good ones out there. 50 shades/Master of the Universe is not one of them.
And now it started a trend. A girl wrote a fanfiction about one of the guys from “one direction” Netflix made her story into a movie called “after”

Some information! And sorry if you covered any of this in your full version. I'm just going off what is said in this video.
- They don't really explain it well in the movies, but the "Laters, baby" is an inside joke. It started because they were mocking how Elliot (the brother) and Kate (the roommate) said it to each other. So they are aware of how stupid it sounds, they just make it their own private silly joke.
- She wants to give back the money he gave her because she wants to work for her own money and have her own say. That's one of her character traits is that she refuses to be owned or controlled by Christian fully. She wants her own agency as a young woman. The money is symbolic of him taking control where she didn't want him to. So she forbids it from entering her account and instead forces him to give it to a good cause. It's all about control on her side of the equation.
- The red lipstick around his chest is crucial to his character. That's where he was burned by the pimp that abused him. He can't have anyone touching him there, and he was making a "roadmap" to show her where he cannot be touched under any circumstances. Red could be symbolic because it's a hard limit, too. But it's crucial to show his growth as a character for when he finally lets her touch him there. Now he has relinquished a little bit of his control and let Anna take hold. It's all part of the yin and yang ballet that occurs throughout the series.
- The balls she is given are Ben-Wa balls. From what I have read, some women do not have the same experience as her, but some do. They stimulate the pelvic muscles and are used in kegel exercises as a result (strengthening the pelvic floor), but they are obviously used for sexual stimulation first and foremost in this movie.
- I believe the man running the auction is Christian's dad. I could be wrong, but I think that's him.
- All the movies have very poor sound design when dealing with the spanking. I don't know what they were thinking. There is one very powerful-sounding one (the first one that she has to count down at the end of the first movie), but the rest are very muted by comparison. There are generally no satisfying "slaps" with the spanking in the movies. The riding crops and stuff are much better-sounding, though.
- That plank on the pommel horse was real, as far as I know. You can look up a video of him doing it on Conan O' Brien's desk. He really is that strong. I don't think he held it as long as in the movie, but that makes sense as he probably practiced a lot for the movie but after shooting it he probably didn't feel the need to keep up. I think that was real!
- The helicopter scene is truly awful. By far the worst scene in the whole movie. I think it works better in the book because you do get that build-up a little more and you get a better explanation for what happened. But in the movie, like you said, it just kind of comes out of nowhere and only serves to bolster the villainy of Jack Hyde. And the special effects, ho doggy, oh dear. They're bad.
- Personally I felt that they make most of the intimate scenes feel distinct, but that could be my bias.
- I love your references to Marvel, about Civil War and the Sinister Six. The 3rd book / movie would have been much better if they followed your blueprint. Something I'm impressed by with the third movie is how it perfectly encapsulates how insanely choppy the book is. That translates perfectly to the screen and it is just as frustrating when seeing it there. That book was a big letdown, and the movie is equally so. I like it, but it's my least favorite of the movies and books by a fair margin.
I used to really dislike this movie, as well, as the book is my favorite and I thought they didn't do it justice. They took out the parts with Christian's therapist, which I thought was unforgivable as those are also crucial to unlocking the mystery of Christian and why he is the way he is. But watching it more recently, I wasn't as bothered by that exclusion. It's still not my favorite (The first one is, by far), but I have really come around to loving this one. It's only a couple minor steps down from the first for me.
A couple issues I still have: the scene where he becomes the submissive to Ana... I don't think the movie quite captures how big of a deal that was, nor any of the impact it should have had.
The helicopter scene. Just awful.
The encounter between his mom and Elena lacked impact, too. In the book it was about as fleeting, but I think they could have done it much better on the screen. And I owe that to Marcia Gay Harden's acting... like you implied in the scene following the helicopter crash, she doesn't emote all that much for a mother thinking she lost her child. So I think the director probably misdirected her acting for these parts. She played the sweet role very well, but she didn't seem to have the range to show dejectedness, worry, and anger.
Aside from the aforementioned spanks lacking in oomph, the first movie, for me, actually does translate everything perfectly and kept in everything important from the book. There were so many scenes where I was like, "This is exactly how I pictured it in the book." Basically the whole movie. It was phenomenal how closely it matched my imagination. This one? Not so much. But I've forgiven it.
