Second that. When my Maverick was in for the airbag warranty I received a complementary rental, which was an Explorer. The weird tall screen just doesn't make sense. You end up with a 9:16 proportion instead of 16:9. Ruins almost everything. So so glad they changed it. I think an explorer might just be my next vehicle
Agree. The interiors why I didn't buy one. I might now. It seemed like a half assed effort on the current one.

@@danielrn133it was a case of how cheaply can we put this together and still sell it for as much as possible. When I had my 2014 Taurus the interior was much better then the current explorers.
The new grill looks superior to the old. The old grill had a weird shape to it. The new grill is bad ass and mean.
Must be some kind of rule that when a company has a great vehicle that is pleasing to look at they have to screw it up.
I really hope they don’t screw up the expedition as well.

The grill on this one is massive for no reason. It's a lazy grill update, otherwise solid touch up maybe not for the climate controls hidden in the screen 🤦🏾♂️
the probably with the old one for me is the headlights, they looked just weird to me going into the grill.
I think the front end looks worse, but the rear end looks better. I do love how the headlights now also stick out a little to meet the body to give it a wider stance though.

‘21 ST here, the quad exhaust tips aren’t really “fake” (like MB and Audi), they are still very much functional. The exhaust just vents out the bottom instead of straight out the back. I think it’s silly, but glad they are still functional. Also, I’m in agreement the pre-refresh ST wheels are much better. New ones are just lame…that grey color isn’t present anywhere else on the vehicle.
Maybe a better way of putting is that the exhaust tips (or at t least what is designed to look like the exhaust tips) are 100% fake. they are non-functional.
@@fordhouse8b But that isn’t true. The exhaust comes out of the 4 pipes, it just vents down. Like I said, it’s kinda silly and I never heard why they did it that way. Some have said to keep soot off the back the back car others have said to reduce the amount of exhaust gas that enters the cabin if tail gate it up.
@@stingley77 That only explains why they vent it down, and have the real exhaust tips below the car. It does not explain why they design them to look like exhaust pipes that vein towards the rear. Just eliminate the opening in the bumper where the fake exhaust tip poke out the back and have a solid smooth bumper facia all the way across the rear. There is no law that says anyone has to be able to see the exhaust pipes tag all.
The new Ford Explorer and new Mazda CX-70 look very similar from the front. Mazda is just like a more elegant approach vs Fords more utility look. But same very placement, general headlight and grill shape, etc

I’ve always found the front end of the 2020-2024 strange. Giant, blobby headlights that look like they are from 2008 and then the back end just looks like a jagged version of the 11-19. I’m very glad that the horrible vertical screen is gone though!
GM seems to have no problems intergrating their large panels into some very much better-looking dash panels. With all the overall bad press that Explorer has gotten over the last couple of years, I would have thought Ford would have pulled out all stops with this refresh, but it seems they did not agree.
As an 23' St Owner I could agree. Overall I feel like ford made a horrendous re-design on the exterior. Wheels? too busy, Love the current ones. front-end? as well is too unthought about. rear is meh. not that great (dislike the new led integration) interior on the other hand I would love that Navigation on my cluster.
It's better than the pre-facelifted version. But the 2011-19 explorer looks better than the 2020-2024 models imo.
They should have hidden the rear wiper.

The old interior is why I got a 2021 Kia Telluride when I sold my 2013 Explorer Sport. This one might bring me back.

In all the years owning an Explorer I have never heard anyone say they wanted to paint the roof black, seems odd Ford thinks its a customer want and charges $5000 for it.
Interior is nicer then current model but 13" screen is small by today's standard.
Too many deleted options with supply chain issues no other OEM seems to have.
Again I agree with your comments. The showstopper for me is the wheel design and colour. Ford chooses to market the ST as a "Blacked Out" trim but throws in grey wheels as only option?....WTF .......that colour is nowhere else on the vehicle. Plus the little things like the Mustang with black wheels get black OE lug nuts but here the ST gets chrome?.....I thought this was "Blackout"
Every other Ford model with "Blackout" gets black Ford ovals......my kids Escape with BlackPak has black Ford badging, but the $60,000 Explorer gets Blue Ovals?
The biggest issue Ford faces with any Explorer is the Quality Control or lack there of. Chicago Assembly has huge issues and no matter what they change there will still be issues.
Spot on with the wheels. I thought those were 18s too, for the st line. I’m searching for the 21s and then realize that’s them..love my black 2020, this one just feels messy on the design
The quad exhaust defusers are not fake but a very cool engineering feature. They dip down like that to prevent carbon from building up in the tips causing the exhaust pipes to get black over time.
The metallic blue color is also discontinued. I'm glad i got mine.
The 2025 is more beautiful and modern compared to the previous model but left something to be desired in several technology items such as the head up display, ventilation in the front and rear seats, sun protection curtains on the rear windows, hybrid option for those who I would like to get this technology. Hence it would truly compete head-on with other brands that are coming with new technologies.
5:15 if I had this grill, I’d add lights the same hue as the fog lights to the narrow grill opening all the way across.
Front End is giving me Big Toyota Tundra or Mazda vibes with the square grille and the smaller headlights. I really like the more hexagonal grille design with the headlight integration. Also it makes it look LESS recognizable at Night!
I like both. I see they opened it up some without completely butchering the sharp looks. The grille ties into the line up. Keeps the old one still current looking. Quality issues aside for makes great looking affordable cars. They never look terrible.

I like the wider look of the front with the large grill, something about the split intake on the bottom of the grill before was not my favorite. Not to mention the sideways fog nights? I'll say the angles on the grill was nice before, but I still think they did a good job making it look aggressive or menacing in its own way with the refresh. The back end though, miles better than before.
They had to make it look more like a Subaru, including the colors. Pathetic.
Unfortunetely, I believe both designs (similar to Subaru) look as if they forgot to finish the design, or they designed a generic/nondescript looking vehicle for one of those corporate instructional videos!
What button up were you wearing in this video? I quite liked it. I agree with most of what you said, throughout. My $0.02: New rear with old front, revert the wheel change, keep the interior upgrades, and boom - my favorite version of this Explorer is born.
This probably the only time I will disagree with you on the front end. It’s cleaner and more aggressive at the same time. It’s hard to explain but I love it. IMO. The only thing I don’t love is the LED fog lights
The previous grille on this body and interior would be a home run. Grille is too wide on the bottom. Also wish they kept the steep slanted roof line of the previous version.
The new Honda crv looks like an older escape. The new accord looks like an old Taurus. Now the new explorer looks like a pilot. What’s going on here

I didn't like the old fog (driving) lights. They should have been at the top, bottom or side of that open space. It is why I would not buy one. But I do absolutely love the old 21" wheels. Way better than the new ones. Should be an option.
Big Screan and hight is perfect. (11:%) It a safty issue specialy when using the GPS. Keep the good work Ford.

The quad exhaust isn't fake, but the exits are. They're turn downs instead of rear exits. This was done to help prevent people from burning their feet when trying to use the sensor under the rear bumper to open the tailgate. This feature was deleted but I guess they still kept the tail pipes.
Your crazy bout that grill. That looks incredible! 1 piece over multiple pieces. Seems much simpler. Plenty of airflow to that intercooler swap! That grill looks more like my Palisade

I like the current model. The new one is not pretty - but we know what this going to be: the template for the other brands to copy. Also, any news of an EV version? Or should I stick with my 2015 Explorer until I can afford a used Tesla?
I never thought about it, but painting the plastic wheel arches seriously makes the car look high end, that's insane

My favorite model is the 2016 look exterior wise. I do like the new features of the 2025, however. Absolutely dislike the exterior design however of the new 2025.
I hate the screen sticking up and out of the dashboard. I rather the screen be flush into the center dash

Actually the fake exhaust tubes make sense. They never, ever get any kind of exhaust soot on them so they stay relatively clean.
You know what else stays clean? Not having fake exhaust tips at all. Ifv the exhaust vents beneath the vehicle where you cant see it, there is no need for fake clean exhaust tips. Just like an electric car doesn’t need a grill, a car that vents exhaust in a non-visible location, does not need visible fake exhaust tips.
I have a 3in turbo back exhaust in my st and guess what no exhaust soot on my white paint whatsoever.

Like to get your take on the North America Honda CR-V and the Asia Honda Breeze. Essentially the same car except for the front fascia and the tail light treatments. I wonder which one you like more and why.
I think the old Explorer looked like the old Edge. Now they’ve moved the Escape and Explorer to more closely align to the new Edge. I think they honestly look much better.
I like the current grill better, but I like the 2025 interior better.
They sell more to government and fleet anyways. So the refresh makes it look more stately
Personally, my opinion of the front ends is the exact opposite. The pre-refresh seems so much more convoluted with so many little elements everywhere. The new front end seems so much cleaner to me.

I have the old one. Only Cons the 10" screen was point less, verticle wireless charger didnt work and non working review camera horrible. New one fixes all three of my complaints but the new wheels are ugly compared to old and new one dont have leather. ST comes with fake leather seats active X but i wanted blue cruise so happy about that. Overall im going from 21 to 25.
I prefer the new design better. I didn’t like the outgoing design. Never liked the integration of the grill and the headlights. The interior looked dated and cheaply built.
The LED Taillights have a very similar design to the 2024 Ford Everest here in Australia.

My hope, right now, is that the Lincoln Aviator doesn't follow a similar path. Unfortunately, based on the changes to the corsair, it likely will.

Why does the Aviator get the 10R80 tranny and and cans tow 6800 lbs vs the Explorer ST getting the 10R60 tranny towing 5600 lbs.

I have the 2020 ST and like the new one better, although both look fantastic. However, our 2020 has had so many issues from both the manufacturer and the dealer that I wouldn’t buy another.

@@oraclemiata845 funny enough, i bought 30+ cars in my life, including toyotas and hondas, and they were always broken somewhere and expensive to fix... all my Fords (Focus, Escape, and old Explorer) only needed oil change and basic maintenance. Only complain was rust (Canada) but i bought them used so if new and with rust treatment i guess they would have lasted much longer. Plus the premium you pay for a used toyota, you can change engine and tranny 1 or twice with your ford if it happen. I sold my 4runners and bought a Explorer Limited for my family and i have less problems and its better equipped... i was looking for the ST but it seams that this version is problematic...

It’s not masculine anymore. Looks like a Subaru. Ford designers are going to kill the Explorer, just like they almost did with the Escape. What a shame.
May be it’s intentional. They want men to buy the expensive but aggressive looking trucks and leave the softer SUVs for the ladies.

Refresh front end look okay but thats because its new and shiny. Its very plain and simply designed. I doubt it will age well. In 5-10 years on an aged vehicle it will look very boring and much older than it is. Its like the new Honda designs, big shiny plain grille right now but wait for the shine to disappear. Itll look like it was designed in the late 90s/early 00s
All the manufacturers are going with “walls” for front grills……ugly…….24 is sharp, balances, rugged……..2025 bad…very bad.

they dropped the ball on the wheels on the 25 ST model. they look cheap as hell. not sporty at all. they look like base model trim crap you'd see on others. Very disappointed.

The Platinum is top line not the ST line… it has better seats and interior than they all do… also the Platinum and ST line does not have AWD, they have intelligent 4WD which is far better than AWD. Both models use real metal, real chrome, real wood… get your knowledge straight.
The exhaust isn’t fake. Also new design is terrible. 2025 looks like it’s 2011.
The exhaust is hot garbage. They come from factory often leaking at the downpipe midpipe connection. The midpipes are strait trash, they often break and need to be replaced. The oem downpipes are horrible and often need to be replaced before 60k miles because the welds crack.
