You guys mentioned “Mad World” and Donnie Darko; this song was also prominently featured in Donnie Darko: at the beginning when they’re going around the high school…
Tears for Fears is named after a phrase from the book Prisoners of Pain. It's meant to be taken as tears being a replacement for fears. One of my favorite songs by them is "The Big Chair."
You would like Sowing the Seeds of Love by them. I didn't see anyone else mention that one, so thought I'd chime in with this one. It has an excellent message too.
This is my absolute fave by the band, loved it since I heard it for the first time as a kid way back in 1986 (Pale Shelter second fave)-the Songs From the Big Chair album in general is a great listen, even to this day. This is a song I could happily put on repeat. Great band with some great songs
In love,16. Right now, still together 35 years and still in love. You also have to like them too, 35 years with the same person in the same house. Arguing is just two people yelling at each other, try talking first even if it's awkward.
In my opinion, Tears for Fears "Mad World" is better than Gary Jules cover. "Break it Down Again" is my favorite song of theirs. You two should definitely react to that one next.
Of course it is. It's their song & their is nothing like the original. "Break it Down Again" is also a great song of TFF's as is "Sowing The Seeds Of Love." Both songs are influenced by The Beatles & take on a Beatles pastiche in song structure & in production.
On the album, the song before Head Over Heels is called Broken. The bit you listened to was the live outro that connects them. You should check it out. In fact, after reacting to Shout and Everybody Wants To Rule The world, you should listen to the whole album to fully appreciate how amazing this album is. Sowing The Seeds Of Love, Mad World, and Change are great songs too...Deuces!
I frikken love Tears for Fears. Their catalog is huge, and they've had a ton of hits. My favorite album of theirs is Elemental. ❤ A few suggestions from the whole catalog: Pale Shelter, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Shout. My first 'real' true love was probably at age 20 or 21.
the whole first album THE HURTING is excellent. that’s the one MAD WORLD came from. they were always evolving. the next album is different than the one before
"Mad World" is a 1982 song by British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's third single release and first chart hit, reaching number three on the UK Singles Chart in November 1982.
First, the bit that I asked you to read on camera: Now when you guys did the Tears for Fears song Everybody Wants to Rule the World, I saw a good number of people suggesting this song but an incomplete version. So it behooves me to make sure you get the best possible experience of this song. This video is how the two tracks appear on the album and listening to one without the other is like listening to Zeppelin's Heartbreaker without Livin Lovin Maid(She's Just a Woman) or Queen's We Will Rock You without We Are the Champions. Secondly, there are some tracks that should be, dare I say NEED to be, heard together. Along with the two examples aforementioned and the one at hand, I'm talking about Tool's Parabol/Parabola, The Holy Trinity(Reflection/Disposition/Triad), Money/Us and Them/Any Colour You Like by Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa's My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama/Oh No/Orange County Lumber Truck, Pet/Lullaby/Gravity from A Perfect Circle and there's one other instance I can think of that I may request in the future. Also gotta get to Shout, Mad World, and another of my faves, Sowing the Seeds of Love
I'd even say that the first Broken has to be added to the beginning of this to make it perfect. I've seen a couple live versions where they do the whole sequence and it's amazing.
I love when y’all do one of my favorite songs ever and I can sing along lol His name is Roland. The dude on the left. Who was signing this song First love… I think I was 15 or 16. Yes, I knew. Idk how to explain it. It was just a gut feeling I had that I couldn’t put into words. He’s a writer now and has written a few novels. The band’s name apparently was inspired by primal therapy. Not sure of the actual clinical application of ‘tears for fears,’ but the goal of primal therapy is to work through childhood trauma so it doesn’t keep affecting you as an adult. Maybe crying out your childhood fears is supposed to help with reaching that goal?
Morning guys! Takes me back! I was a kid when this was popular/when they were popular. I miss the 80s sometimes!! Things seemed much simpler! And people had more connection with one another rather than technology dummying down that human connection! Good times! And haha Hollywood your so funny! Love it! And happpppppy bdayyyyyy Hollywood!!:)🎉🎂🤓💯
Tears for Fears, named after a phrase found in Arthur Janov's book Prisoners of Pain, is a British pop/rock outfit formed in 1981 in Bath, England. Founder members Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith had been friends since their early teens and had already been in the shortlived ska band Graduate
No they had other hits. One of them Shout which was covered by other artists like disturb. Everyone wants to rule the world is another hit. Head over has a cool video.. check it out.
Love Tears for Fears, and they just represent that era. So many memories are connected to their music. I feel so lucky to have grown up in this era... I miss these times.✨️💛🎵
In the 80’s a lot of artists put out extended 12 inch mixes of their songs for clubs. Tears For Fears released an extended mix that ran for 8 minutes. It’s called Broken/Head Over Heels/Broken (Preacher Mix,)
Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in Bath in 1981 by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, Tears for Fears were associated with the synth-pop bands of the 1980s, and attained international chart success as part of the Second British Invasion. The band's debut album, The Hurting (1983), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and their first three hit singles - "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" - all reached the top five in the UK Singles Chart. Their second album, Songs from the Big Chair (1985), reached number one on the US Billboard 200, achieving multi-platinum status in both the US and the UK.[9][10] The album contained two US Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", both of which also reached the top five in the UK with the latter winning the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986.[11] Their belated follow-up, The Seeds of Love (1989), entered the UK chart at number one and yielded the transatlantic top 5 hit "Sowing the Seeds of Love".
A fell in love at 17 and married him. High school sweethearts ❤ 2 beautiful kiddos. Tears for fears has a lot of gems! ✨️ Sowing the Seeds of love & shout we're excellent in the 80's ❤ thanks fellas!
A lot of the stuff you might have heard pieces of you’ve probably heard in stores on the intercom because they play a lot of it on those systems. Back in the seventies when I was a kid they wouldn’t play popular music they played what was termed Muzak music but that has changed. So stores can pipe in a larger variety of stuff but most generally stick to radio friendly popular music.
Sometimes groups start with a real simple name but when they get signed by a company they might have to change their name so they run a check for availability of names sometimes and they might get a list of choices to choose from but other times they might just go with something that they have in a song they wrote or something that might have some sort of meaning to them personally.
On the album, it starts with the song Broken, then it segues into Head Over Heels. And then it goes back and finishes Broken, as we heard here in the video. It sounds pretty great.
Love these guys and this song and Donnie Darko. This song is about how his parents didnt want him to be a musician, but he fell head over heels for music. They told him he wasting his time and should pursue a real career. Somethimg many of us went through. Unfortunately they were right with me.
I was first truly in love the very first moment I seen and held my two beautiful children- Eirik and amber. I was 20 and 21 and that is a love that cannot be put into words ❤️
Two more giant songs by them: "Shout" and "Sowing the Seeds of Love" - the instrumentation and arrangement of the second song really shows Beatles influence. Epic AF.
Tears For Fears have been around since the 80’s and they are still making new music. They are also great live, great singers and musicians, and very meaningful lyrics.
Tears for Fears were a great band throughout the 80s. They are still very good. They recently put out a hit album all these years later. They have a ton of great songs. I recommend Shout next, as I don’t think you reacted to it yet.
Anything by Tears for Fears takes me back to the '80s, close my eyes and I'm in a John Hughes movie. I started school in '81 so I wasn't running the streets and chasing women in the mid 80s, the pop culture of this era is my reference point😁 I was in grade school
We saw Tear for Fears in Boise several years ago. Rain delayed the concert for while, then they put on a spectacular show. Roland told the crowd his wife (back in England) had adopted two small dogs without consulting him and sent him photos the day before. He got to name the dogs, and chose "Boise" and "Idaho" as that was the next stop on the tour. Sadly, his wife has since passed away.
The melody in "Head Over Heals" is off the charts. First heard it sometime in the late 80s. Enjoyed hearing it again. Recommend "Are You Serious" by C.C. Catch from 1988.
in the video roland is like s student bring books back to a libary and looking for some more.he has a crush on the libarian, sings to her.the band are there.curt is sweeping up,there's an orcastra on the second floor.a chimp.a jewish man.just people in the libary.when he says funny how time flys you see him older married to the woman with kids. the version we heard on the radio or saw on top of the pops doesn't have broken attached. please do mad world next.it is their song and fitting for early 80's.totally different from gary jules.
These guys woth a handful of other artists practically dominated the radio stations of the 80s...and still do to this day really. Such an iconic sound of an era where music you just felt in your soul. Also this was the 80s...folks actually had talent so most live shows didnt sound much different than their studio albumns....cant say that about artists now though.
Without even consulting the comments- 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World,' 'Shout,' 'Change,' and 'Sowing The Seeds Of Love' should be the next songs you need to hear from them. Their 1985 album 'Songs From The Big Chair' is gold front-to-back.
"Songs from the Big Chair" is a slamming album. Worth listening to the whole thing. Also, the album title is another psychological reference: in this case, to the 1970s mini-series "Sybil," about a woman with multiple personalities.
Happy belated birthday, Hollywood. There's so many great Tears For Fears songs. Everyone is mentioning Mad World. Give it a listen. I don't care for the Gary Jules version though. They put out a new release a couple years ago called The Tipping Point. It's great! Both guys have great voices. I just love them!
There are a few albums throughout the years that are released and every song on the album is fantastic and Tears for Fears (songs from the big chair) is one of the albums ..
Big Ben is a tower clock known for its accuracy and for its massive hour bell. Strictly speaking, the name refers only to the bell, which weighs 15.1 tons (13.7 metric tons), but it is commonly associated with the whole clock tower at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament, in the London borough of Westminster.27 Feb 2024 Did they rename Big Ben? In 2012, the tower commonly called Big Ben was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in honour of the Queen. It is the most recent twist in a long history of confusing names and nicknames. This latest appellation just adds to the glorious complexity.
lol.. Hollywood comes up with interesting questions about the bands and can integrate the robot to any song. Tears for Fears has a great catalog of music. Others have mentioned some of their well known hits, you should go down the Tears for Fears rabbit hole :)
Guys - come on, get with the program! They just released a new album in 2023 and did a world tour! Songs from the Big Chair album was the biggest album from the 1980’s!
1: right selection (both songs) but wrong order...First, Broken, then Head Over Heels...that's the right order 2: this song (Head Over Heels) it's also included in Donnie Darko's OST...and is far more representative of the movie than Jules's Mad World cover, in my opinion 3: Roland and Kurt, both, are the lead singers, it's like Hodgson and Davies in Supertramp 4: they're absolutely not one-hit wonders, they're the authors of some of the best 80's albums
Might need to revisit the album. Track 6 is Broken and track 7 is Head Over Heels, that's true. But then track 8 is Broken(Live) and this is the true OTP. Here's two examples that someone else agreed with me that these two tracks should be listened to together and in this order th-cam.com/video/bp7bxXHEW7U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MjeZRbrFJJKxfVD_ And th-cam.com/video/2EscE6j7CYw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KPhKppGOa3EIgk97
You would have been better listening to Broken/Head Over Heels/ Broken. Head Over Heels is sandwiched between the two Broken segments, if you had heard the first Broken you would have noticed that the piano in Head Over Heels, is the same piano as in Broken, the crowd noise at the end was just added for effect. You will have heard Head Over Heels from Donnie Darko. Tears For Fears have two lead singers, both guys sing lead vocal, the guy on the left is Roland, he sings Head Over Heels, the guy on the right is Curt, he sings Everybody Wants To Rule The World.
'Shout' and 'Everybody wants to rule the world' also awesome songs of theirs
And Sowing the seeds of Love
Pale shelter
So many good songs, mad world, head over heels uggh love this band
@shanepn such a great song and very much a "Beatles" feel.
You guys mentioned “Mad World” and Donnie Darko; this song was also prominently featured in Donnie Darko: at the beginning when they’re going around the high school…
Mad world, head over heels, and notorious. Whenever i hear those 3 songs, i want to watch the movie again, one of my favs.
@@anthonyfaccaro7118except that Notorious was by Duran Duran. But all those songs are in the movie.
The 80's and the start of the 90's were really unforgettable. The quality of the music, the lyrics, the videos, the live shows...unbeatable for sure.
Highly talented band here! Many were influenced by this amazing sound!
This is song is absolute joy! Have always loved it.
Shout and Everybody wants to Rule the World are totally worth checking out by Tears for Fears
I saw Tears for Fears in 2022..they were fantastic!
i love you!
The last release The Tipping Point is so amazing! They still sound great after all these years!
Tears for Fears is named after a phrase from the book Prisoners of Pain. It's meant to be taken as tears being a replacement for fears. One of my favorite songs by them is "The Big Chair."
My favourite song of them is "Woman in Chains"

Donnie Darko

Shoot, almost forgot Woman In Chains, featuring Oleta Adams
Yay, I Love Me Some Tears For Fears!!

First album/cassette I got 3 years old, still one of my favorites.
Being a teenager in the 80s Tears for Fears, INXS and Depeche Mode were my favorites. All of them incredible live !
i love this song
Also, both Curt and Roland sing on this song. Roland sings the bulk of the verse parts
I love when y’all do one of my favorite songs ever and I can sing along lol
His name is Roland. The dude on the left. Who was signing this song
First love… I think I was 15 or 16. Yes, I knew. Idk how to explain it. It was just a gut feeling I had that I couldn’t put into words. He’s a writer now and has written a few novels.

The bass just takes this tune and shoves it right at you !
Never heard that ending before. I like their song Shout.
First time I thought I was in love 15
Love tears for fears!
Now try a dance hit from the 90's bass-o-matic and fascinating rhythm great tune with a rap twist in the middle 😁
This was in the movie Donnie Darko at the very beginning. Which is where I rediscovered the song. they are so good.
Morning guys! Takes me back! I was a kid when this was popular/when they were popular. I miss the 80s sometimes!! Things seemed much simpler! both Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal are lead singers for Tears for Fears

You ask why,we (the UK) ask why not?
When I was 12 years old, Donnie Darko introduced me to this song, and tons of other great 80s bands like Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen
The song is 💯🔥
You guys should check out the music video for the song. Amusing. And you need to do Shout next , it may be their biggest hit song.
Fantastic band ❤
A fell in love at 17 and married him. High school sweethearts ❤ 2 beautiful kiddos. Tears for fears has a lot of gems!
✨️ Sowing the Seeds of love & shout we're excellent in the 80's ❤ thanks fellas!
Great band, so many great songs - 'mad world', 'Shout', 'woman in chains' and the epic 'sowing the seeds of love' to name just a few. Cheers.
That whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
A favorite band from when I first heard them when they released their first LP.
This is my favourite of theirs. Followed by sowing the seeds of love, and shout
A lot of the stuff you might have heard pieces of you’ve probably heard in stores on the intercom because they play a lot of it on those systems. Roland is an incredible musician and vocalist. Curt’s voice compliments Roland’s. Tears for Fears are still going strong. Great songs!
Mad World....best song ever. Love this band for years and years. Great guys.
Ya'll need to check out more artists from this era. Look at the track list for Donnie Darko. Amazing soundtrack there!
I remember this song. ❤ Thanks. Haven't heard this in a long time.
Tears For Fears have been around since the 80’s and they are still making new music. They are also great live, great singers and musicians, and very meaningful lyrics.

the 80's at it's best and they are still performing and recording great music today.
in the video roland is like s student bring books back to a libary and looking for some more.he has a crush on the libarian, sings to her.the band are there.curt is sweeping up,there's an orcastra on the second floor.a chimp.a jewish man.just people in the libary.when he says funny how time flys you see him older married to the woman with kids.
the version we heard on the radio or saw on top of the pops doesn't have broken attached.
please do mad world next.it is their song and fitting for early 80's.totally different from gary jules.
My comment always goes unnoticed. Review Queen's "Scandal" song and AC/DC's "Walk All Over You."
Mad World is definitely them. It's from their first album, The Hurting 🙂
When the bands name is taken at face value, it appears to be a trade-off. What a deal!
Funny that Donny Darko's version of Mad World by Gary Jules was made cause the original cost too much!
do Change....first song i heard by them....great video

"Tears for Fears" and "One Hit Wonder" NEVER go in the same sentence, okay?!
I agree
Real Life--Send Me An Angel
Definitely one of the best songs to come of the 80’s.
"Songs from the Big Chair" is a slamming album. Worth listening to the whole thing. Also, the album title is another psychological reference: in this case, to the 1970s mini-series "Sybil," about a woman with multiple personalities.

Sowing the Seeds of Love is my favorite from them!
Fun fact: Head Over Heels also featured in Donnie Darko...
I’m sure it’s been said before but the guy on the left (the reactor not the album cover) bears a striking resemblance to Tarantino.
No 80's album collection is complete without 'Songs from the Big Chair'. It's great front to back!
Nobody's mentioned "Mother's Talk"! It's their 2nd best song!
please listen to women in chains by these guys it will really make you appreciate their craft. it has bars as you would say :)
I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Working Hour or any track from Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, their best album, IMO.
Tears for Fears derives from a book by the American psychologist, Arthur Janov. It basically means tears as a replacement for fears.
Best freaking band ever
i love there music! they have some great hits!
Their name derived from primal therapy
1: right selection (both songs) but wrong order...First, Broken, then Head Over Heels...that's the right order
2: this song (Head Over Heels) it's also included in Donnie Darko's OST...and is far more representative of the movie than Jules's Mad World cover, in my opinion
3: Roland and Kurt, both, are the lead singers, it's like Hodgson and Davies in Supertramp
4: they're absolutely not one-hit wonders, they're the authors of some of the best 80's albums
Might need to revisit the album. Track 6 is Broken and track 7 is Head Over Heels, that's true. But then track 8 is Broken(Live) and this is the true OTP. Here's two examples that someone else agreed with me that these two tracks should be listened to together and in this order

A Masterpiece...
The guys are still rocking. Pale shelter next please
