Love this video - did the ride today. Took a couple wrong turns. At mile 2.2, the trail marker just before the bridge depicts hikers and leashed dog, so I didn't realize bikes could even go that way (rookie mistake) so I veered right, ended up in the resedential area. Turned around and passed the bridge again, went through the nursery, ended up on Highland Valley Road. I knew that couldn't be right, so I pulled up your video - realized that the "hiker" bridge was the correct path. It was awesome after that! I will say that some of the climbs on the Hodges side are incredibly rocky right now. Much more so than when the video was made. I had to walk a couple - with no shame ;-) Really appreciate your channel! Thank you!
I did this ride yesterday and where you turned around you can continue up around the fields towards raptor ridge. its gets to be a bit of a climb but a good workout. then you end up going around the water company property and it crosses to road to meet up with the trail for raptor ridge from hodges. fun ride. thanks
Connecting Highland Valley and Raptor Ridge is fairly easy -- going South to North, you take the road for a mile, then cross back to Mule Hill at the signed crossing. Turn RIGHT. Coming West to East from Mule hill, just turn left at the picknic table (end of Mule Hill). As for the rest o the ride, gee I had no idea about those upper trails before you get to Bernardo Peak. I mean, I may have been on them once years ago. Gotta try it again.
@@MTBTrailReview I went out with a friend yesterday who hadn't ridden in a while, so we went out Mule hill, went to the bottom of Raptor Ridge, came back and then the road for a mile to HIghland Valley, then back over the bridge. I like to do Bernardo Bay, Piedras Pintadas, then Highland Valley to Mule Hill
man ive been off the bike for months and have been dying to get back on the trails and i feel like id be in the same boat as you trying to get back into the groove. busy time of year for me
@@MTBTrailReview Thanks for the reply, We've been to the summit, but I missed that U turn part of the video the first watch and when I saw you back at the trail I kind of went WTF? there's a loop I didn't see before? lol
Good to know. We'll have to do it at some point. I still want to do those PQ videos with you, too, but I have a feeling it's going to be awhile with all of the rain in the forecast.
Rode it today. Your video really helped. Where you guys turned around at the picnic tables, well I kept going past that. Have you been out any further?
I think there's a few potential reasons. First, it could be the GoPro effect on climbs. It's hard to tell how steep a climb actually is from footage. It could also just be a lack of experience with gears.
Man, Lake hodges always looks so beautiful and mystical in the winter!! been meaning to take my bike up there for the last few years
I think it just opened up again!

I'm happy it helped! It's a pretty cool spot to ride. I need to get out there again soon to do an update video.
Funny, I just did this ride today. We started at South Hodges though.
Nice. South Hodges is on my list of videos to make.

No worries. I haven't been up to Raptor Ridge yet, but it's on my list. Thanks!

Once it cools off a little I'll go make the connection. Thanks!

What happened to the footage mentioned at 16:11! 🤣
He was talking about everything that we had said just before that.

It feels good to ride again, but there has definitely been a decrease in my cardio!
Nice Ride, look forward to riding it. At 17:10 you guys just turned around and went back right?
That's correct. You can continue to climb, but it gets significantly more difficult.

@@MrDino2302 No worries! I'll go to the summit when I'm trying to get a good workout, but that's about it.
Yo I know the way to connect Highland Valley to Raptor Ridge, it was in veeeery poor condition when I checked it out though

@@MTBTrailReview definitely, PQ prolly won't be good to ride for awhile but come there new year, we totally should do those

The turn around at 8:05? I have not been past there. Is there more singletrack?
MTB Trail Review yeah I just continued to the left and there was a lot more singletrack.
@@geemu9216 Thanks, I'll have to check that out.
MTB Trail Review you bet! Going again Friday! I’m hooked.
I have a question. Why do a lot of riders ride in the lowest gear or something I see them pedaling fast as hell but barely gaining any speed?
I think there's a few potential reasons. First, it could be the GoPro effect on climbs. It's hard to tell how steep a climb actually is from footage. It could also just be a lack of experience with gears.
oh ok well thanks for replying i subbed
