I'm a clarinet player and an aspiring band director. I play this song every single day on my clarinet in band class just for fun, and it would be my dream to direct an entire high school marching band out onto the football field and kickoff halftime with this song. My band directors would be very proud. XD
It's missing the underlying high-pitched melody that the original has. This score either needs the flutes to play more at the beginning, or it needs a vibraphone/steel drum part. But still, good job.
I know! It doesn't even have that iconic beginning drum part--you know, the part that lets you instantly know you've got a rickroll. The intro sounds completely wrong without it. I mean, if you ask people to hum the song, they sing dadadada DUN DUN. If I were the band director, and assuming I wouldn't get into trouble, I'd probably completely rewrite that percussion line before I would even consider playing this. I know that wasn't uncommon in my high school band, especially when we had a percussion director.
I'm disappointed they didn't have the bass drums perform the iconic intro. It's just not the same without it. Other than that, it's a great arrangement.
That's how you rick roll your audience right there. But it just sounds a little weak, and could definitely be faster. It sounds a lot better when put on 1.25x speed (thank me later) but I like it anyways. Snare parts are simple and are not too difficult.
Emilia Burnham as someone who plays the alto saxophone, I was fairly triggered by this comment, I don't know why, for your statement was some-what true, sadly.
Well to be fair this is a marching band arrangement. Not to bang on saxes any. I love a good sax lead and im a trumpet myself. But a trumpet lead would make more sense with this song. Once again im not trying to be biased here
So we had this for our half time show, but it was a bit different. Me, a trumpet, and a flute would play 0:11-0:27 as a duet. We would do a visual of the rest of the band points to me or the flute, points to the drumajor, and she counted us off. We would then play the rest of the song until 0:52 and we would cut off, ending our half time show. It was really fun!!
Ouch. I don't play drums, but those drumlines look pretty generic. Maybe they should hire someone to compose the drumline, because whoever made it probably has no experience with drums. Just my thoughts, though.
You don't read much? The grade level is a 2. Not suppose to be difficult. Probably wrong to assume the people that professionally arrange these have many, many years of experience. Try again.
They don't even have the iconic beginning of the song! You don't need to be a percussionist to figure that out. I can only think they weren't allowed to use it for some reason. Being grade 2 is an excuse for some of the melody changes, I guess. But not for losing entire drum parts. You don't even have to be a percussionist to play that opening. If I were a band director, I would at the very least put that part back in, treating it like an opening drum roll for the song.
They actually did hire someone to write these stock charts. Every single Matt Conaway arrangement has the drumline parts written by Jack Holt (I think...?) They're obviously not good for a group with more experience, but this is a Grade 2-3 piece. It's not supposed to have flam drags and stick tricks all over the place.
How to Rick roll your audience at the football game!!!
Aaron Graf AstronAaron ikr
Aw yeah. That would be if I was actually in a marching band. ;-(

We should do this
@@RoseCadenza why not
For best results, play measures 1-25 of Sweet Caroline, and then switch into this.
Worth it.

here's your typical stock writing from Hal Leonard when it comes to writing drumline

Edgar Espino our drum line never plays the written parts
Don't worry ZipplyZane, you won't get in trouble. A director we had once rewrote an entire song so you'll be fine.
yeah...
I WAS JUST THINKG THAT
i love looking through these comments and seeing all of the marching band people

RICKROLL IN A MARCHING BAND
Every year after football season my band teacher would ask the students for song suggestions and after finding this I regret not suggesting this video
I’m crying
Saxes again?? btw i got rick rolled at my cadet band compitition
Captain Conagher what do u mean saxophones again,I play saxophone
Captain Conagher I think he means we don't have any of the melody
it's true that it's sad that saxophones have no melody. but doesn't it sound pretty cool with trumpets? (I'm a flute)
