Wow she almost had it!! Much respect for actually sounding more like an opera singer. This is like what the Christine I saw years ago did. It was awesome!
I heard from fans who were lucky enough to see Anna on the last leg of her run on the West End said Andrew Lloyd Webber asked her to switch over to the New York cadenza. And she nailed it perfectly. This was indeed an off day for her but is in no way a reflection of her talent. Every vocalist stumbles occasionally. Those who tell you otherwise are just plain lying. Thank you for being polite towards her about her little glitch. If you would like to hear more material from Anna. Feel free to ask and I will gladly help you find it. :)
vinoringochan varugasu What I wouldn't give to hear her sing an operatic aria. I love her voice on theatre material but to sing opera. She would truly soar. I remember her tweeting that she had sung an aria by Gounod at a concert but she didn't specify which of his compositions I would die of happieness to hear any. :)
@@vinoringochanvarugasu7944 Yeah but she's a lyric soprano not a coloratura. You can tell that her voice just isn't suited to those high notes. And I'm not just saying that based on this video. I hear it in a lot of her work. Fwiw I'm a big Anna fan; I love her as an actress and I love her singing in pretty much all other rep :)
We all have our favorite leads. I have great respect for big or small theater performers. I dont criticize them because being a stage performer is not an easy thing to do. We all have our favorite Christine and they all have their singing styles. What may be best for you might not be the same for others. If you dont have anything nice to say better not comment. Anna is amazing I have the dvd of LOVE NEVER DIES.
I do not deny someone their preferance of Christine in terms of a favorite. We are entitled to be drawn to another actress. I feel more emotionally connected to Anna then some of the recent actresses who have portrayed her. And this video was only one performance in Anna's ten month run on the West End. This isn't how she sings all the time. She had an off day. Every single singer who has ever lived has had one at some point. Her voice in general has a much richer texture & stronger clarity then what is shown here. I do in fact respect Sierra (she has an incredible vocal and dancing range) but I'm not deaf to her vocal faults. So to point out Anna's off moments and not Sierra's demonstrates bias. If you don't enjoy Anna then fine. But there are many talented performers who have played Christine through the years who are worth looking into. If you absolutley can not listen to anyother performer because you love one too much. Simply don't listen to others as you apparently have already made up your mind.
Silver54ful I completely agree with you! Anna and Sierra are two of my favorite Christines, but it seems that Miss Boggess' fan group can be extremely bias toward the other phenomenal actresses who have played the role of Christine before and after Sierra. While it is fair for someone to critique any singer (in this case Anna), it is highly disrespectful to compare that singer to a person you prefer. Each voice is different, and a trained singer will sing in the style most comfortable to them. It may not be the style that people are used to, but it's good in its own right.
Thank you very much for the support my fellow fan. I appreciate it. Yes, Anna had a vocal mishap on this particular day. I will not deny she went 'very' sharp in the cadenza. However, I defend her as a vocalist because for those who hear her sing just on this song and on this singular video now have the misinterpretation she has vocal mishaps all the time. Which is not the case! I encourage people to listen to her sing all sorts of material. She really does have a beautiful voice. This video should not be the definition of her talent. As for the other topic. I take issue with those who troll around. If you only care for Ms.Boggess, why would you bother wasting energy and time to bash another performer? None of the Sierra fans would like it if a non-fan of hers went onto a video by her and they said " She's good but she's no Sarah Brightman or Rebecca Caine." The same thing applies when they do that to other Christine performers. I try to have a more well rounded approach. There are so many Chrsitine (or musical theare artists for that matter) I adore and admire. I can not fathom only listening to just one. Sure I have my favorites but I love to make new discoveries. That being said. Anna is a gigantic favorite of mine! She is one of my favorite performers (in any format) in the world today. :)
Thank you for the comment and replies. For all you wrote. Every music video, of all musical genres, is filled with irritating and arbitrary comparisons. Even worse arethe someone-else-is-better statements. Anna O'byrne is wonderful. And there are many other women who have performed the role. I have been awestruck by them all. So thank you for stating what I have been thinking.
Silver54ful the irony is that Sierra can actually be very sharp herself at times (even during the Royal Albert Hall concert, multiple times) plus she’s never even attempted the more operatic cadenza. I really like Sierra both as a performer and person so am not saying this to bash her, but let’s hold everyone up to the same standard if we’re gonna get technical.
@@amyepstein4868 Hello there. Wow it has been quite some time since I was on this video. Then again, wasn't feeling very compelled to since I knew what kind of commentary would be heading in Ms.O'Byrne's direction. How refreshing to see other people understand! :)
Thank you SO MUCH for this comment. In recent years there is this misconception that one has to sing without support or skill to still sound innocent and young. It's frustrating. So it's incredibly encouraging to see a comment like this one.
I absolutely love Sierra Boggess, and I haven't found someone I like better as Christine, although Anna is VERY close. I favor Sierra's performance in POTO, but I favor Anna's performance in Lover Never Dies.
Katelyn Miller not at all! being that I come from a theatrical background I'm a lot more critical about things like that. I think if I saw Sierra and Ramin in LND the way that the Australian Company did it (where in Beneath a Moonless Sky" the song is different. If you haven't seen it, watch it its absolutely brilliant.) If I saw Ramin and Sierra in that show, my opinion would be different. But I think Anna O'Bryne gives Sierra a run for her money, which is saying a lot because Sierra is brilliant.
Lauryn Brianna Definitely! I love Ramin and Sierra for POTO, but when I listened to them in LND it just wasn't doing it for me. Anna and Ben were great for the sake of the characters being older.
I hope you don't mind me budding in. I would like to offer a recommendation audio. If you love Anna's version of the title song from Love Never Dies. I can't stress enough how her friend and understudy from that production is worth looking into. Her name is Claire Lyon. She's tackled some of the most beloved soprano theatre music on an album which you can listen to right here on this site. She also is the current principal Christine in The Phantom of the Opera World tour. I hope you enjoy listening to her. :)
Nice job for Anna! I won’t mention that Anna had a little problems with the cadenza. But that note before the last note in the cadenza works for me every time! (At 3:32) She is one of my favorite Christines ever
At least it proves they are human and make mistakes as well. But can hardly fault a vocalist of this caliber such as Anna. I would really hate it if this is how she was known. She really is so much better then this sharp note. Her voice is a wonder. I just wish they would have chosen to share the audio recording of when Anna was on the World Tour with Anthony Warlow instead. Her cadenza there was flawless! By the way. I also highly recommend checking out the videos/audios of these past Christine performers. Lisa Vroman and Claire Lyon. :)
I have heard of these two other Christine performers that you have brought up about. Lisa Vroman is like another legend to me! She may look a little old to play Christine but her acting and voice is really brilliant! Same with Claire Lyon! I heard that she was the understudy of Anna in the production of Love Never Dies in Australia playing Christine, and was also in the World Tour version of POTO. Lisa and Claire Lyon are on my top twelve list of my favorite Christines: 1. Rebecca Caine 2. Rebecca Luker 3. Lisa Vroman 4. Sierra Boggess 5. Anna O Byrne 6. "The Top Four Elizabeths" (Loyacano, Welch, Southard, and Berg) 7. Gina Beck 8. Rachel Barrell 9. Claire Lyon 10. Patti Cohenour 11. Harriet Jones 12. Claire Moore All marvelous Christine actors and fantastic singers!
+ dont judge a singer from just a performance. it is sad that people do it with such harsh vocabulary, they dont know how hard is it to be a performer. you can be really great and trained but well in singing there are some bad days, and some people all they will say that easy ah he /she sucks . hard world.
She is more dramatic in low notes from Sierra...but she hit the hight notes with power and easily....different performance more difficult.....but in the bridge I think seams to loose it a litle of beat in one note when she goes up...or her microphone was not ok and the sound looks strange like she make falls....
She lost it during the most crucial part of the candenza. Can not be denied. This is especially difficult for me since I am such an enormous fan of Anna's. Even still, it would be a foolish errand to say otherwise when it is plain as day she went inarguably sharp. That being said. I really don't want this video where she did hit a sour note to be the definition for her as a singer. I feel the strong desire to keep encouraging people to watch her other videos and listen to other audios. For as a whole she really is a gifted vocalist.
@@Silver54ful she is a classic signer of opera she singing love never dies perfect but she is a human also so some days are ok some days not so much its difficult especially if you singing that every day for one or two times....I guees her throat must be always in a good condition for signing all those difficult parts and scenes....but she is a very good signer and a very beautiful woman...for the first time I leasing her I say yeah she is very impressive.....all the package...
