I was there. I was in the University High School band, playing the Trumpet. I remember it like it was yesterday, after seeing this. Wow! This brings back so many memories. I remember when the beautiful Barbie Benton came down my row of our marching band, during rehearsals, and she gave me a little pinch on the cheek, and told me how cute i was. lol Honestly i didn't know who she was at the time. lol I was more enthused to see my faves The Jackson 5 , at the time. Those were such good times in America. So innocent and good clean fun. Thanks for the upload. Great stuff.
“Leif rhymes with Safe which is what you’ll be in his arms”! - Tigerbeat Magazine circa 1974. If you want to see a great movie that The Coppola kids did about 1976 featuring Leif and David Cassidy and lots of other stars mixed with DEVO and many otter stars from then and some modern music bands it’s on TH-cam called: ‘ Spirit of ‘76’!
@@LivinofftheWall Yes! I saw him (M.J.) several times up close that day and night, and I got his and all of the Jacksons autographs on my trumpet case. Not to mention I also got to meet Kenny Loggins, up close and personal. He asked to play my trumpet but i didn't have an extra mouth piece, so I couldn't let him. hahahaha. Christy McNichols, and Barbi Benton were so cute in real life. Marilyn McCoo was stunning in person, such a gorgeous woman. LaToya Jackson made me blush. Joan Jett was sort of a macho type of woman, as i remember her vaguely, judging by how she walked around but she was so sweet to us. I remember The Jacksons were such clowns, lol, they were always messing around, trying to have some fun (in a good way). Leif and Rod Stewart took everything they did quite seriously but both were definitely heartthrobs to all the teen girls in the audience. Everything they did the girls screamed. My high school band got to meet all of the stars that day, in the celebrity tent area with special access. Too many to count, and write about there. So many stars of the 70's were there to compete. I have a thousand memories that would take a book to write my experience with them all down, here. LOL! It was one of the most memorable and fun times of my life, meeting all those stars in one place. I was blessed to be in the right school at the right time, as this was thee ONLY televised "Rock n' Roll Sports Classic", ever held. Lucky indeed. The only thing i regret was NOT having a camera of my own. Cell phone cameras weren't even thought of at that time. lol
@@Gexxon thanks so much for replying!! I wish I could’ve had those experiences, you really should write something honestly. You must have been thrilled to be there 😃
THANK YOU for uploading this!! I watched the original broadcast in 1978…back when Joan Jett was a Runaway, Lionel Richie was a Commodore, Janet Jackson was a little kid & Phyllis Diller was still with us. I’d been looking for this for years knowing that home recording was still new at that time & the quality would likely be poor. Didn’t matter, I had as much fun watching this tonight as I did nearly 44 years ago…and still cheering for Rod Stewart! Thanks again!
Lil Janet Jackson was booking on the track... lol I remember Battle Of The Network Stars but not this Rock ' Roll Sports Classic from childhood. They should do stuff like this today.
I admit I was for the east but the west was so good, they won most of the competitions! Kind of unfair the east won just because the last competition was worth a bunch of points, oh well at least they all seemed to be having fun!
Interesting that this was produced by Bill Acoin and the theme song written by Sean Delaney (Bill's ex lover) but there was NO appearance by KISS who Bill Acoin managed at the time.
Question......Truth BeTold I have never heard of The Alessi Brothers. Are they still around??? How about Helen Sneider or Sleighter?? Is she still around ???
Came here to see the jacksons
