The TH-cam channel "Project Farm" covered several readily available headlight restoration kits from big name manufacturers.
Out of all of them, this is the only one that restored the plastic to almost new conditions under the microscope.
That channel is amazing. That’s why I purchased the kit
that's why i bought this specific kit
Agreed. I tend to buy things from his tests that are successful.
Same reason I’m here
Did you happen to notice the price increase on Amazon soon after he posted that episode?
Well played, Sylvania, well played. Haha
Project Farm made me buy one. I have seen so many stupid DIY kits fail after another BUT this one actually works! It took me about 30 minutes to do it carefully. My car is 2010 so the headlight cover was getting really fuzzy but now it's clear as new. Easy to read instructions.
Thanks to Project Farm, I gave the Sylvania kit a try. The results are amazing. The headlights look brand new!
This is the second time I've used this product and it's AMAZING.
When I was finished with all the steps my right headlight was crystal clear and my left headlight was pretty hazy, not sure why. I tried to reapply the final clear coat but that just made it worse so I waited until everything cured and went through all of the steps again. I really made sure to sand the light for a while too. It came out looking crystal clear just like the other.
So if you end up with a light that's hazy, wait until it cures and then go through all of the steps again.
How long did it last the first time? A lot of people are saying this is a "lifetime" fix but I see people saying they do it every 1-3 years or so.
@@squirtlesmells8174 Whose life? To better understand, I suggest th-cam.com/video/UG54xt56uZo/w-d-xo.html
the exact same thing just happened to me, one headlight came out clear and the other came out hazy, thanks for the advice
@@squirtlesmells8174 I'm reapplying after 3 years. It started to look bad again. But 3 years for $27....worth it.
I noticed if you apply clear coat where you just applied the clear coat it starts to get hazy because it almost instantly starts to solidify/become permanent so you end up messing it up. You have to make sure to carefully not overlap the clear coat.
I had serious doubts about this kit even as I was working through each of the steps. After step 3, I was like WOW ... this really works! I'm still letting it cure however the results are truly amazing, completely amazed with the results. Definitely would recommend the kit to anyone asking about how to restore headlights, way to go Sylvania, great kit!
Wow ! I just did this to my car and it’s looking brand new ! Both headlights took me about 30 min total ? Super pleased w the result
I have tried at least five other restoration methods on another vehicle--they did not work at all. I tried this kit on my wife's 2015 Civic. Before buying the kit, I was considering buying new headlights. I followed your perfect instructions and now have like new headlights. What an excellent tutorial!
Product has several different steps and it took me almost an hour, but my headlights look brand new now. Thank you
This guy does a very good job telling what to do but I used this kit yesterday. What I experienced after applying the first UV clear coat the headlight was still had a very hazy look so after about 4 or 5 hours I applied another coat of the UV clear coat that made it look 100% better, that was last night. So this morning I have applied another coat of the UV clear coat, hoping that will make it look even better.
it made my hazy headlight look more clear but there's still some stuff. I used it on my clear headlight and now it's got a bit of a haze. Will add some more of the UV coat and hope it helps.
Ok I just did the coating. 90 min later It does indeed look better. I'm glad I found this youtube instructional it is very good. I expected the sanding would be the hardest to get uniform but it went pretty easy. The UV applicator though was more "arty" then I expected. As the video it dries quick so you must be ready to evenly coat top to bottom with broad overlapping. I can see a bit of defects in the first lamp I coated but the 2nd was much better. Took me 90min to do both but I was slow and steady. I could do it in 30 min now that I've done a set. 90 min after drying it does look much better and I'm sure more light will get to the road. We'll see how long it lasts but if it even lasted 1 year I'd be happy. If it last 3 I will be thrilled. thank you Sylvania auto. :-)
OMG! WOW! I just bought a 2011 Tacoma, and the headlights were incredibly blurry, hazy, and foggy. I bought the Sylvania restoration kit, and I followed the video instructions--and my headlights look BRAND NEW! My truck went from looking like an old, used truck to a NEW truck. This product is nothing short of AMAZING--I could not recommend it more!

I just did the restoration on my daughter's 2009 Mini. Super happy with the kit!!!!
I’ve tried 2 other well known brands , the Sylvania Restoration Kit worked amazing, absolutely incredible. The headlights used to look Dead ,Gray! After watching the video step by step and I do mean that… do it right and your gonna be amazed by how Clear the lights become. Best Restoration Kit .
are your lights still pretty clear?
So how long will the clearcoat last? Do you have to do anything to maintain it on a yearly basis?
I found the key step is to spend enough time using the finer sand paper - don't shorten that step, make sure to use lots of water from a spray bottle and keep at it. That seemed to be the key for my headlights which weren't too bad, but bad enough to fail safety inspection. Also - do NOT go over the same spot w/the final UV sealant step!!! It's not like painting to get coverage! It'll leave a cloudy area.
I made a mistake with going over uv sealant. Do I redue steps? Starting with sanding?
This is a great kit that prodces great results. You can also purchase the activator and clear coat in a separate package.
Hey I just did it and your instructions were spot on, however i didnt quite listen and went over the left light while it was not quite dry and it looks a little cloudier than the right, I still have stuff left in the kit, how do I remove the last step and redo it? by wet sanding it again ??
Same here. Solution yet ?
start over
I just finished the job and i am very happy with it, off course it requires some forearm power endurance and attention to instruction booklet, but it is amazing once you finish!
The Sylvania kit really restored my headlight lens to crystal clear. In the past, I have tried a 3M kit and a rustoleum kit and they were subpar.
I just did this on my headlights and tail lights. Still probably could do 4 more lights with the same kit (with extra plastic polish). I also had a drill for the polishing step which was nice to have. Results look really nice! I just hope they last with the uv coat
How they holding up?
@@tuanas458 From my experience it holds up for about a year before they start to fog up again. I'm going to do it again and keep a sealant applied to them regularly to hopefully preserve them longer!
Mine on a 2009 corolla still looks good.. Not brand new good but no fogging yet.. 13 months n going.. Daily driven garage park when not in use.. But i did apply a 2nd clear coat after a few hours of the first. Or as someone else said go heavy(not dripping heavy) on the clear coat.
I used this kit two years ago, and it's time for another treatment. I'll use the same kit not only because it works well, but also seems to be the most complete kit available. And I don't know where else I'd find those fine grit sandpapers separately..
What needs to be done to a completd headlight lens to apply a second coat of clear coat after a few days
I have the kit but haven't used it yet until I learn exactly how to do it. I do wish the clarifying compound was in two packets instead of one since I plan to finish one light before starting the other due to space limitations in the garage.
My kit off Amazon was missing the applicator cloth. Any recommendations for a substitute? I'm assuming regular paper towels are gonna leave fibers.
used it, looks good, we'll see how it looks in a year, got a decent forearm workout too.
Just did all the steps. Hope it dries more clear. I mean its clearer than it was but still hazy. I set a timer and sanded for 5 minutes for each step so idk. Well see how it looks when it cures
The 400 grit sand may take a longer time depending on the depth of the damage. On an Xterra with yellowed and flaking lights the first sand took at least 15 maybe 20 minutes, some places with heavy pressure, until all the yellow and damaged plastic was removed and felt smooth to a gloved finger. The other steps only took a few minutes each because they were only smoothing not removing. The starting lights were worse than their examples and turned out as pictured.
same here
I'm new to trying this out and am happy with the results but I apparently did not get the Clear Coat on quite fast enough and I got some streaking - both headlights are almost back to new but my technique getting the clear coat on was not great (first time trying it). Is there anything I can do to "touch" up the headlights once everything is cured?
i would recommend also getting a spot light or flashlight so that you can look at the haziness at different angles to make sure its as uniform as possible
my 2006 range rover is in great shape but the yelllow dingy headlights let it down. I was about to spend $650 for a new set of lights but this kit has them looking new! Only thing I modified was i started with 220 grit to save a little elbow grease. I think I will apply more clear little by little, maybe once a week
I'm trying out this product after the Project Farms review. Hopefully it goes well
Would be nice to include these instructions with the product itself. Glad I searched for and found this video.
They came in my box
They do.
When I used the kit the first time, when I put the clear coat on I don’t think I put enough on the headlight. What do I need to do to reapply the clear coat?
💥 They don’t answer anyone’s questions
Good results. Be patient and THOROUGH with each sanding stage. CIRCULAR MOTION is key. I decided to rinse and dry off all grit residue after each stage.
The reality is that here I see an error that caused one of the headlights to spoil its finish, what I did and it came out with an excellent result is that if the headlight is not badly damaged, do not use 400 sandpaper, unless it is very damaged and white. better to start with 1000, do the whole procedure as it says with 2000, and in the end do not use the polish that comes with the product as it is very abrasive and scratches the plastic again, use 5000 sandpaper and the finish is very good, I I imagine that with the polish they want to do the same to leave a better finish but the reality is that I ruined it, one last piece of advice, do not remove the tape from the headlight until you also apply the final coat. greetings
Just did my 07 GS450h and they look great! Was gonna buy some lense covers but tried this first. So glad I did…
Takes some elbow grease but not much at that.
Very satisfied with the restoration of my Porsche 996 headlights. 👍🏼
Thank You for a great video supporting an equally great product. I just did an 09 Accord that was really bad. It's a 100% better. Unfortunately it also helped sort out the damage existing on the inside. They will need replacing but they're also WOW level better until I can get replacements ordered and in
Can you add a second coat of clear coat after a couple of days? First coat on one headlight doesn’t look consistent
💥 They don’t answer anyone’s questions
I just did this on my car... came out great!! Thank you for the video!
Last year car wouldn't pass inspection due to the headlight lenses. The shop cleaned them up and looked good. Car is due for inspection and the lenses are already borderline not gonna pass. So I decided to due this myself before I bring it in. The car is a 2011 mazda 2 with 209,000mi...
If I remember, I'll come back in a year and let you know if this lasted
.....no idea what method the shop used last year*
Bought it. Applied it. Looks amazing.
I’m going to use this in a few minutes. Looking forward to great results.
Great results, they look awesome!
@@brentandvuk Excellent! I have an 04 Tahoe. I have to drive with the brights on, because they are so yellow.
Same. 07 Aura
Worked great for me.
How did it hold up? Is your car kept outside, or in a garage?
Second time i use this kit. Will buy again. I can now see the jeep logo in my headlight lol. On the final step make sure to soak it up thick so you can get even thick coats in a few strokes. You can probably do two cars with one kit if you prep appropriately.
Did the resin seem streaky on the headlight after? It did for me but once it dried looked a lot better. Just want to make sure it’s supposed to look streaky ish while wet still
@@TrixxOfficial747 i think so then it dried.
HELP! -- I first finished step one.. and the yellow has NOT been removed.. What should I do?
Does the product remove deep scratches in headlights too
I just did my 2017 Toyota RAV4. They look great. Easy to follow and apply. Thanks to “Project Farm”
How long does this treatment last? 1 month? 1 year? 3 years? any idea?
Do they provide you with enough sand paper for both headlights?
Yes.... I ripped them in half and then folded them (flipping to other side halfway through). Make sure the lens is wet as well as the sand paper. I think it was 400....1000...&...2000 grit. My headlights are pretty big and half for each one was plenty.
Also... there's cloth in the kit.
It's 2 pieces folded together.. I didn't know this and used it to polish the lenses. Then later it called for the cloth again but I had to use paper towels.
Lights still came out great, just hope they last.
Not enough for one headlight, tried on Prius 2013, F joke! Ordered 3M much better quality.
How has it lasted ??@@unclefreddieDied
@@DSGB91270 not great at all. I think it'll pass inspection but already cloudy.
Is the kit enough for both headlights or just one?
I got the kit and it looks tons better. I just don’t think I did a good enough job. Can I just do it over again?
💥 They don’t answer anyone’s questions
What can i do if i messed up the clear coat on 1 by putting too much and its not drying uniformly?
Having followed the instructions to the letter I must say I was not very impressed with the results. Can the headlight be treated a second time?
💥 They don’t answer anyone’s questions
I bought a kit over a year ago. It stayed in my garage through winter and sub zero temps and summer over 100. Can I still use it?
💥 They don’t answer anyone’s questions
I had some clear coat left and save it in a zip lock bag.. It dried out.. I say if its never been open n still looks usable it should still work.
What is the lowest temp you can effectively apply the clear coat? As long as the bottle is warm? I mean outside temp thanks
I just did mine... it was probably 50° and they look great.
Video says anything above freezing (32° F).
I would wait till it's at least 50.
From all the car shows I've watched and outdoor painting jobs I've done... everything said 50 or above.
Good luck
Hmmm... Wait till you try to register for the "Lifetime Warranty" advertised on the front of the package. It takes you to a big fat screen on their website where "SORRY! WE CANNOT FIND THE PAGE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!" appears. Sounds sketchy to me.
Helpful Hint: apply painters tape AFTER you have applied activator, rinsed, and let dry. The tape I applied, 1st, loosened and started to slide off when the activator chemical dripped down from the headlight and hit it.
Good results.
Anyone have the problem of using too much of the UV coat and ended up being more cloudy ? How can I fix this ?
Why is there annoying music ?
or more pointedly, is there a version where the music isn't blowing out my headphones and I can actually hear the monolog instead of needing to use cc? 🔊
amzing product. first time user. God bless
Project Farm ftw!
yeah i did this step by step and it made my headlights look worse. i even redid it and it didn't help it at all. thanks
It looks so easy, but it's actually not. I just realized I applied the activator and simply wiped it off without rinsing with water. I did let it dry. I hope this doesn't cause everything to fail.
Why were the scissors needed
Well I fucked up. I definitely pressed too hard on that 400 grit 😅
I see Ricky Gervais, I upvote
I think this would be better if everything were attached to a cordless power drill
You must be extremely lazy to make that comment
0:20 32 degrees Centigrade or Fahrenheit ?
32°F is freezing = 0°C. 32°C is 90°F. What do you think?
thanks for the video, but for the love of God please tone down the background music or ditch it so we can actually hear you.
how are yall going to put ads on this video smh
Who else thought that this is going to be presented by Ricky Gervais?
This works amazing although it probably doesn't look as good as when my car headlights were new it stills looks almost brand new and saved over 200$ having someone else do it for me
That's a pain in butt.. i would pay for it instead...lets do the math ...24$ for the kit + the hard work. Shop detailing will only charge you 60$ .. you are only saving 20$ ...not worth it
I did this on my last car. Even with very light strokes the sandpaper scratched the lenses.
Came out like shit , especially with the clearcoat . GO BUY 3m restoration kit better.
For the love of God - eliminate the unnecessary distracting music. If I want to be entertained - I will pick my own music. Your music adds no value and makes it hard to hear and understand you. Be a leader - not a follower - allows all the other idiots making instructional videos play their music if that's their preference.
Is this about the product or the too loud, overbearing music? For a very nice video on how to use the Sylvania product look at this link

This kit is doo doooo. Yeah it gets the yellow out but the but the headlight is clear and blurry when done. I’ve used the 3M pneumatic kit before about 25 times and that was way better.
I used this kit and my headlights look like near factory, better than when I bought the car...u didn't follow the instructions right
The presenter did a good job going through the steps. But way too many steps, period…and ticky-tacky ones at that. I’m just going to pay someone to have it done…
Don’t be lazy
My mechanic charges $130 to do this with likely the same or similar process. I'm willing to go DIY for this job.
