Love your first spot was a W123 300D, still miss my 1977 one but I was too poor to afford the amount of welding it needed while also restoring a 1966 MG Midget.

I adore Paris, my fondness for it is second only to my home city. I'm really lucky to have a close friend who lives there as he's saved me a fortune in hotels over the years! I'm going again in the next couple of weeks for the new Paris Métro extensions, hopefully the Citroen Conservatoire is still open while I'm there

Nice one Ian, it's been at least a couple of decades since I went there. Unfortunately that was a work trip but I did get to wander around for a while. I love the place. Amazing character and the food was off the scale. The group I was with ate at places recommended by our French colleagues so were a down side streets away from the brightly lit touristy bits. I hope to go back at some point to see how things have changed as 20+ years is a long time. Once thing that stuck in my mind that nearly every car was dented, even brand new cars. Many thanks for sharing.

That walk to the Cathedral - Sacre Coeur - has a fair amount of uphill in it. Nice view to appreciate while you get your breath back though. I'm sure, when I was there in 2020, there was a proper old school garage with petrol pumps on the street, just a bit up the road from the Moulin Rouge on the other side of the road. It's a great city to explore on foot

What you said about the vibe in Paris, every European city I've ever visited has that same laid back feel, almost like everyone is on holiday. Went to London for the day last month, felt incredibly frantic, like everyone needed to be somewhere else.....immediately!! Something is wrong with Britain in my opinion. We need to chill! Very jealous of that sandwich by the way - French bread and chicken curry, heaven!😀

Nice that you can still find older cars around Paris, often displaying extreme panel damage the Persians are famous for. I love the way its pretty normal to still see 90's cars as daily drivers around France and older stuff is not that uncommon.
I thought their low emission zones would have killed this off, though I was recently told the French get round these laws by generally ignoring them as its only enforced by spot checks rather than cameras so the odds of being fined are pretty low.

Paris is more than just a city, it’s the epicentre of a whole civilisation. It’s not necessarily nice to everyone and for everyone, especially these days. It used to have place for people with ordinary jobs and businesses and average incomes - not anymore. But there are a lot of nice remains of a rich history, and there are always interesting new things coming up. There is literally something for everyone, but you need to know what you look for and find out where to find it, if you depend on sheer luck, the surprises can just as well be awful as they can be nice. It’s the same as for every big old city - only more so.
