    Second home purchase should be made illegal - also in the southern english coastal towns. It prices local people on low-medium incomes out of buying a home. It is a national disgrace.

    It's all relevant. I moved to Wales from Sweden. The Welsh weather at it's worst is mild compared to a Nordic winter I can tell you. In Sweden during the cold months (October to March) it can take ten minutes to get dressed well enough just to go outside. If you've got small kids it can be a major project getting them wrapped up in boots, overalls, hats, scarfs and gloves.... With temperatures that can get as cold as -25c, you can't not be prepared. All Swedes change their car tyres twice a year. Winter and Summer tyres. Oh, and the dark... at the mid winter it gets light at about 10 am and dark again by 3 pm. You need to be a real Viking to cope well with that. I love the fact that in Wales, daffodils shoot up already in February. You'll be lucky to see daffodils in Sweden before May. Brrrr!

    Very honest video. Same with Cornwall, there is always such a fake persona particularly on TH-cam that moving to rural Wales or specifically Cornwall is this utopia where you will be picking wildflowers everyday and making bread in workers cottage. The reality is these places are the poorest places in not just England but Europe , Cornwall is one the poorest and impoverished places in EUROPE! twinned with i think Lithuania and received emergency funds through the EU to stay afloat, this of course is now gone as they all voted brexit.. you couldn't make it up. Wages are usually 1/3rd of what you would get anywhere else and be prepared for hostile locals and overpriced housing. That being said these places have natural beauty and there is that sense of freedom and peace of mind living rural is something not many have these days, but for all you Sussex types selling up in London and moving to Cornwall or west Wales , best of luck but don't waste your time you'll be moving back in a year!

    be aware also of collisions down the narrow roads as many locals drive too fast, it rains forever also, service is sloooooooooooooow too much chat in supermarkets, hospitals particularly Bronglais in Aberystwyth are very good, housing is cheaper but has gone up a lot in the last few years , hard to find anyone to do any work at all ie gardener, cleaner etc you may as well go self employed as it seems they all want £15hour minimum and thats the bare minimum. Glad to hear you're taking a bit of time out. I hope knowing that the unit is full of paused projects isn't causing undue stress. As much as they're all worthy causes, a less stressed Ian should take priority over simple project count, as exciting all the projects can be. At least you acknowledge the ups and downs of full-time TH-cam, and seem to do a fantastic job managing that and reminding us viewers of the necessity of a healthy work-life balance.

    Good luck with your first trip away but I would recommend getting a electric lead that's used for tenting and put through the front passenger window or driver's fit some of those wind deflectors so you won't get any rain coming in then you can have a low wattage fan heater kettle and any other appliances you need otherwise it will be freezing

About a month ago I bought a spare one with 450,000kms on it for spares and I drove it 1000kms home from Queensland. It drove so well, I now want to restore it. I nearly bought another one two weeks ago but I thought having three would be ridiculous so I bought an excellent 1990 V6 Alfa 75 instead. Life is great in cars with character!

    Oh dear, as layers of management and educational theory aim to make assessment fairer, the burden on the learners gets heavier and heavier. When I were a lad, we didn't even do mock GCEs and A levels, and that kind of sudden death is a bit extreme. But the alternative seems to be a world where assessment is the focus practically all the time. Little time for the joy of learning (for those for whom it is a joy), let alone being young and maybe foolish.

    What is it with the UK these days, an inch or two of snow and everything comes to a grinding halt, I can remember the winter of 62-63 trudging through 2 feet of snow to school a few mile away, the few teachers that were late or missing travelled by train, the morning ones often delayed whilst the tracks and third rail de-iced or cleared of overnight snow. Buses running as normal, often delayed though, but fitted with chains on drive wheels. The Milkman as regular as ever but was a shortage of milk bottles as many buried under snow on peoples door steps not seen and collected by the milky. Come on people, get prepared for real winter weather the start of November, set of chains and a folding shovel, entrenching tool - for the use of in stores issue parlance, in the boot along with some strips of old carpet to place under spinning wheels, attached to rear by rope so one doesn't have to stop until on a firm surface with some grip.

    • @grahamleiper1538
      @grahamleiper1538 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've done Hessian sacks on ropes rather than carpet. Not old enough to remember '63, but keep a small snow shovel in the car and use winter tyres. If it's bad enough for chains travelling can pretty much wait. Modern plastic bumpers will be destroyed if the snow's that deep anyway. North of Scotland gets a bit more snow, makes more sense to be ready for it here. Driving in snow is easy, dealing with traffic in snow is a nightmare.

    • @tonys1636
      @tonys1636 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@grahamleiper1538 Whatever happened to the grit bins on street corners, people cleared the road outside their house and spread the grit, salt is useless when below -10, gritted flat frozen surface is better than rutted frozen slush. A local Farmer, they are responsible for clearing roads around their farms, used the yard scraper to clear snow down to about 2" deep, spread grit with the spreader then rolled the surface flat, all done at the same time with all attached to an old Massey, sometimes he'd borrow my Landy as had a rear PTO if the Massey wouldn't start, yard scraper jury rigged to front bumper, mounting eyes welded to bumper. Modern cars act like snow ploughs with low plastic bumpers, not helping progress in snow deeper than 3". A snowy and cold winter was a lucrative time, pulling eejits out of ditches with the Landy.

    • @grahamleiper1538
      @grahamleiper1538 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@tonys1636 we still have yellow grit bins, usually in strategic locations. Salty sand. I've pulled someone out of the way with a towrope before but more common is pushing by hand. You still often see kids help pushing cars up hills. Makes up for the ones throwing snowballs. Big bucket loaders are brilliant for dealing with drifts. We also have people with "real" 4x4s and even Unimogs rescuing people from drifts locally. It's nowhere near as bad as made out.

    Things certainly have changed with exams even since I finished school in 2001, much like yourself we had everything all lumped in at the end in Year 11, doing the mocks in 2000 and then the actual GCSEs in 2001, though in my case my results were absolutely rubbish (I blame dysgraphia which makes my handwriting very difficult to read, so the xaminers probably just binned my papers!)... :P
